Welcome to The Desert Lodge in Joshua Tree.

This house is about a mile to downtown Joshua Tree with many shops and restaurants along with the National Park, which is just a 5 minute drive from the house.

There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms (one is a half bath) in the house, and works well for a group of friends, three (or four but recommended for 3) couples, or small families. Its spacious enough for a group but also cozy enough for just a couple.

The space
Please read everything noted here. We try to be as detailed and accurate in our listing as possible to make sure this is a match for your travel needs.
Our house is simple, not luxury, with eclectic and vintage decor from arount the world. It has modern amenities and serves as a comfortable gateway to the national park. The main living room is a cozy place to relax while cooking or playing a board game, cards or puzzle.
We have a den attached to the dining area with a TV (no cable or local television, but we have a Roku with access to fast internet TV such as Netflix and Hulu as well as a few old school gaming consoles).
The kitchen has the essentials you need to make a meal: Pots and pans, baking sheets, plates, bowls, silverware, serving dishes etc, along with some oil/spices. Our stove is electric, as for appliances we have a fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee maker.
There are two bathrooms, one is a half bath the other is a full bath with a shower/tub.
The recommended accommodation is for 6 people, but we can fit a max of 8 if needed; We highly recommend against trying to book groups of more than 8 people: the wear on the septic tank and lack of bedspace overwhelms the house.

Guest access
While you're staying here, the house will be yours to use, you have full access to everything as seen in the photos.
You'll get a unique lock code to check yourself in, and you can check in anytime after 3. Check out is at 11am. Sorry, no early check ins or late check outs due to our cleaning schedule.

Other things to note
Please be respectful of our neighbors. The people who live near us enjoy the peace and quiet, and are simply not tolerant of loud noise outside including music and talking late at night. You'll be surprised at how far sound travels. If you or anyone in your party is not comfortable with this policy, please consider other rentals.

We are all on fragile septic plumbing in the desert. Please don't throw anything other than TP down the toilet. It will clog and then you won't be able to use the shower, sinks or toilets. Pretty please!

Again, We have the house professionally cleaned, but please make sure your dishes are cleaned (run the dishwasher before you leave) and that everything is in the general place that you found it on arrival. This helps keep our cleaning fee low. If dishes are left undone or excessive messes are left, an additional cleaning fee will be taken out of your security deposit. Fireplace shown in photos is not available for guest use and any fire inside or out is strictly prohibited.

In the desert, critters are simply a fact of life. Just a warning for those weary of bugs, even though we have the house cleaned after each guest, we simply can't avoid the occasional critter breaking in.

We have swamp cooling, which keeps things comfortable and cool, but on those super hot 110 degree days, they can only work so hard and it may not be as icy cold as regular AC. If there is more than 20% humidity, they also don’t operate at peak performance. Most of the time they are great but it’s just something to take note of before planning your trip to the desert.

Also, the house was built in the 70s so it has the quirks of an older house.

Lastly for our homes protection we have one camera outside by the garage to monitor the home when it is occasionally vacant. we do not monitor it during guests Stays.

Hello! I'm Laura and my husband and I are excited to share our spaces with others when we are not here. We split our time between LA and JT. "The Desert Lodge" is our personal home that we rent when we are away, and "Coyote Cove" is a rental we also manage. We are both active and love to hike, bike, surf, camp, check out live music, cook, travel near and far. We take at least one trip abroad each year; Some of our favorites are Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Vietnam and Japan to name a few. Of all the places we've been, however, Joshua Tree is still one of our favorites. I first visited Joshua Tree on a spontaneous camping trip 12+ year ago. Falling asleep under a wide open blanket of stars and waking up in the boulders was an unforgettable experience. I fell in love with the area so much so that I knew I would make it a home one day. A decade later I did just that and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to share it with others, we've hosted and met some amazing guests from around the world! My booking email will be full of information and recommendations in the area, there are many wonderful hiking trails, restaurants, galleries, events etc and I am happy to point you in the right direction. I look forward to hosting you!
