Jericho is a vibrant and somewhat bohemian area of Oxford with its own lively community of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. There is also an excellent independent two-screen cinema. All within 2 / 3 minutes walk. Less than five minutes walk from the Garden Room is the Oxford canal with its colourful narrowboats and Port Meadow - a huge grass meadow with cows and horses and the river Thames flowing through. A short walk of seven to ten minutes in the other direction and you are in the shopping area of central Oxford.
The train station is ten to fifteen minutes walk away and the bus station just seven to ten minutes. Oxford is close to the M40 motorway from London to the north west.
The fully insulated Garden Room (airy and bright in summer, warm and cosy in winter) is tastefully furnished with all facilities to make a most comfortable home from home stay. The kitchen facilities include a small 2 ring electric stove with oven, kettle, toaster, small fridge, sink unit with storage. All crockery and cooking implements supplied.
The single antique wooden bed ( please let me know if you are allergic and would prefer non allergenic bedding - pillows and duvet) has an above-bed light and shelving (there are a few books and maps about Oxford for the visitor to borrow). There is a cottage wooden table and 2 chairs - ideal to use for work or eating. The lovely, spacious en-suite shower room has shelves and a small hanging rail for clothes. Everything is included, together with the complimentary breakfast pack - all ready for you to just unpack your bags and relax!
Although no television is supplied, the complimentary wifi facilitates the use of accessing catch-up TV websites or applications.
The garden room has its own little kitchen area and shower room as well as the garden with table and chairs immediately outside. Guests have their own private entrance.
Interaction with Guests
I am usually around in my house and always happy to answer questions or give any advice or help that I can. However, guests are totally independent in my garden room.
The dogs (two very friendly labradors) are never allowed in the garden room !
There is an efficient electric heater which has a timer. Please avoid leaving it on unnecessarily - I try to keep a reasonably eco-friendly home and to avoid waste. There is a fleece blanket to wrap up in if you are cold !
I keep the towels and sheets for the room stored in the bathroom. Please do not use more than one bath towel - again, an effort to respect the environment.
Please use the green plastic bin under the sink for food waste. This is used for compost by Oxford City Council. There is a bamboo basket for other waste.
There will be a £10 charge for lost keys.
Please remember that you are at the end of the garden. It is a quiet area. In the summer neighbours enjoy sitting out in their gardens. Please do not play loud music or disturb our neighbourhood.
This place truly is a secret haven. Quiet, comfortable, modern. It's really just lovely! It's location is convenient to the centre of Oxford, as well as the canals, several restaurants, and an independent cinema house in Jericho. Very close to the coach and train station.
Anne is a warm and thoughtful host who provided a wonderful loaf of bread and goodies for breakfast. She was friendly and available. Great place, especially if you need a few days away to escape from the real world.
Anne, was waiting at home for me the afternoon I arrived. The cottage was very nice, the homemade bread and breakfast also! I had a separate exit in the backyard, very practical.
I can really recommend this quiet place in Oxford, with birds and a small garden.
Anne was a tremendous host - freshly baked bread waiting for us on arrival! The cottage was an absolutely beautiful space to stay in. The accommodation is located in a great part of Oxford - a quick walk to the city center, whilst surrounded by some young/funky restaurants and pubs. I cannot recommend the accommodation enough
Anne is a fantastic host and she welcomed me very warmly despite the fact that I arrived a few hours late. I stayed for four nights to attend a conference in a nearby venue and I enjoyed every minute I had to rest in the house - unfortunately not as much as I wished.
The house is spotless clean, very pretty, quiet yet centrally located, surrounded by an amazing garden - seriously what more does anyone need? A fresh baked handmade bread? Yup, you get that too.
Every time I need a place in Oxford, I will always return to Anne's. Thank you for the hospitality.
What a wonderful little sanctuary, perfectly situated for the local art house cinema and a good selection of restaurants but also tucked away in the peace and quiet of Anne's charming garden.
The garden room has everything you might need and Anne's very kind and thoughtful gift of homemade bread made breakfasts a pleasure.
Thanks for a fabulous stay Anne!!
Anne was very nice and her cottage was fabulous!! All of the details made me truly feel at home. The location is perfect, and you've got absolutely everything you need for a great visit to Oxford.
Anne is an excellent host, efficient, friendly and communicative. Her garden cabin is exactly as pictured; it's very nicely furnished and carefully thought through to include everything without being cluttered. I particularly liked the small details, such as provision of a hot water bottle, and hair dryer. The armchair (which I had my doubts about from the photograph!) is extremely comfortable. The whole place is lovely and bright.
The cabin is spotlessly clean. There are plenty of breakfast goodies supplied, including Anne's lovely home-baked bread. There are also ample supplies of crockery etc. I didn't attempt to cook a meal, but what's provided looks fine for something simple. The bed is comfy and the linen is of good quality. The shower isn't terrifically hot, but water pressure is fine.
There look to be plenty of very nice places to eat and drink nearby. It's an easy 10-15-minute walk from, say, the bus station towards the centre of town in what strikes me as a very safe neighbourhood.
In short, I would recommend this lovely little cabin to anyone, and I look forward to staying here again.
I have recently returned to Oxford from living and working overseas for more years that I care to count ! I was most recently living in Malawi for three years. Before that I lived in Cambodia for sixteen years ! Prior to that in Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Venezuela, Tanzania, Morocco, Germany.
I am a teacher - of French (despite being English), and love all things French ! I am currently enjoying tutoring students for GCSEs, A levels and the IB Diploma.
I am divorced with three grown-up daughters, one of whom lives in Oxford, the other two in London. And then there is my gorgeous grand daughter - I am quite besotted !
I enjoy travelling and exploring, food and cooking, gardening and growing vegetables on my allotment. I love walking my dogs on Port Meadow and in the Oxfordshire countryside. And in the summer I really enjoy swimming in the river.
