Interaction with Guests
I am usually around in my house and always happy to answer questions or give any advice or help that I can. However, guests are totally independent in my garden room.
The dogs (two very friendly labradors) are never allowed in the garden room !
There is an efficient electric heater which has a timer. Please avoid leaving it on unnecessarily - I try to keep a reasonably eco-friendly home and to avoid waste. There is a fleece blanket to wrap up in if you are cold !
I keep the towels and sheets for the room stored in the bathroom. Please do not use more than one bath towel - again, an effort to respect the environment.
Please use the green plastic bin under the sink for food waste. This is used for compost by Oxford City Council. There is a bamboo basket for other waste.
There will be a £10 charge for lost keys.
Please remember that you are at the end of the garden. It is a quiet area. In the summer neighbours enjoy sitting out in their gardens. Please do not play loud music or disturb our neighbourhood.
An antique pine bed, comfortable and cosy with a good light for reading in bed and plump pillows to snuggle into !
Anne's cottage was lovely retreat during my visit to Oxford. The fresh baked bread was delicious! Anne takes great care in providing little things to make her place feel comfortable. I also enjoyed the location. Near enough to walk to the Oxford colleges and other sights, yet far enough to provide an escape from the craziness of the city centre. It is in a great neighborhood with cafes and pubs very nearby. I would highly recommend Anne's cottage to any solo travelers to Oxford!
From start to stay this little cottage in Oxford is a delight. Anne is a really great host, beforehand readily replying to emails as well as when you arrive. The location is within easy walking distance to the station and even closer to the highlights of Oxford. The cottage is so perfectly equipped with absolutely everything in the kitchen, a great shower and bathroom and an incredibly comfortable bed. What I hadn’t expected was the delicious breakfast Anne provides. I was enchanted by the photos and it surpassed my expectations
I had a very comfortable stay in Anne's Garden Room in July 2015. It was exactly what was expected and perhaps wins the award for the most functionality in a small space without feeling crowded! I was made to feel very welcome and I appreciated all of small touches that made my stay easy, especially the homemade bread. It was also great to stay in Jericho away from the busy centre of Oxford. I would highly recommend a stay here!
I have just spend four wonderful days in Oxford, due in no small part to Anne's Garden Room, which was ideal for my purpose of visiting Oxford as a sort of mini-retreat. Communication with Anne ahead of time was excellent and she was very welcoming when I arrived, the home made loaf of bread being excellent. The room was just as I expected from the photos: comfortable, bijou and tasteful. Everything worked well and I was able to cook and relax there. Because of the nature of my visit I did not want to interact with people particularly and Anne was very respectful of my privacy. The Jericho district is a wonderful part of Oxford (I found it on a family holiday and loved the combination of being at the heart of a city rich in culture (I spent ages in the bookshops), but with wonderful country/ canal/ river walks just minute away. I also enjoyed choosing from the many independent cafes, shops and traditional pubs in the area.
I very much hope to be able to find the time to repeat my visit to this part of Oxford, and if I do I hope Anne's garden room will be vacant.
I have spent a fair bit of time in Oxford as of late. All of the accommodations have been great; Anne's stands out. Anne's cottage is exceedingly charming. Tucked away at the back end of Anne's garden, it was private, well-appointed, clean and comfortable. Anne made it even more so welcoming with the delicious (homemade) bread, cereal and fruit she had waiting for me.
Within very short walking distance of the cottage are the lovely restaurants, shops and cafes that help make Jericho a fantastic Oxford neighbourhood.
If you are one person travelling to Oxford, I highly recommend this delightful space.
Anne greeted me at the door and gave me a tour of the garden house as well as a quick rundown of the local area. Through the trip she was quick to respond to any inquiries and made me feel very welcome.
As for the garden house, it had exceeded my expectations. The pictures are accurate and the lodging had all of the necessary accommodations. It is within walking distance of the Oxford colleges, and the immediate Jericho area had a lot to offer as well. The separate entrance in the backyard was also an added benefit!
About the Host, Anne
I have recently returned to Oxford from living and working overseas for more years that I care to count ! I was most recently living in Malawi for three years. Before that I lived in Cambodia for sixteen years ! Prior to that in Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Venezuela, Tanzania, Morocco, Germany.
I am a teacher - of French (despite being English), and love all things French ! I am currently enjoying tutoring students for GCSEs, A levels and the IB Diploma.
I am divorced with three grown-up daughters, one of whom lives in Oxford, the other two in London. And then there is my gorgeous grand daughter - I am quite besotted !
I enjoy travelling and exploring, food and cooking, gardening and growing vegetables on my allotment. I love walking my dogs on Port Meadow and in the Oxfordshire countryside. And in the summer I really enjoy swimming in the river.
