About this listing

The space

Hi there! I am excited to be renting a large, private room in my 2-bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City. The apartment is a 2-bedroom with the rooms on opposite sides, so there is plenty of privacy. The bedroom for rent is bright, airy, and has access to a fire escape (for anyone who smokes...). The kitchen (and "bar") is fully equipped (and almost always fully stocked) and you are more than welcome to use anything you find to cook yourself a wonderful dinner or just to grab coffee on your way out for sightseeing.

I am a very easy-going bartender in the city. I love meeting new people and consider myself a sort of "ambassador" of my city. I have lived here for nearly 3 years - long enough to have some insight, but still new enough to enjoy the sights and offer any advice to travelers. I work (email hidden) in the neighborhood, so stop in a grab a drink during your stay.

The neighborhood is great - tons of things to do but still on a quiet block so you can relax after a long day of sightseeing. Below are just a few of the many sights to see nearby my apartment:

-2 blocks from Central Park
-1 block from St. John's Cathedral
-Apollo Theatre in Harlem
-Columbia University
-Riverside Park
-Metropolitan Opera
-Julliard School
-Lincoln Center
-New York Ballet

These are just a few of the many sights that are all either within walking distance or only a few subway stops. I am located 2 blocks away from the 1, B, and C trains which all connect to express lines making it very easy to get anywhere in the city.

I can't wait to hear from you and am happy to answer any questions about the apartment or neighborhood, or New York in general!

I am a fairly laid back person and am pretty open to a lot of things. That being said, I just ask that you use common sense and courtesy when staying in my apartment.

*I do not mind if you smoke while staying here, but please step out onto the fire escape, which is easily accessible from your bedroom.

We had a great stay! Great location, room just like on the pictures. Be aware of the shower, it turns very very hot! Pitty we didn't meet Emily.

We didn't meet the host but the check-in was really easy. Overall the stay was average. The neighbourhood was conveniently located but noisier at night than described. We weren't expected the 5 floors of narrow stairs with our heavy luggage. Due to a problem with their cleaning service, the apartment (particularly bathroom) wasn't very clean, though the host cleaned midway through the week when they arrived home. The bed was surprisingly creeky/noising. Awkwardly, there was nowhere to hang anything, including towels, and not much room for luggage with two people.

The location is great, close to public transport and just a few blocks from Central Park. Unfortunately, the apartment itself was a big letdown. The room is pretty small (at least for two people) with no place to put luggage, no table lamp and very dirty curtain. The rest of the apartment was unkempt and dusty. The bathroom had not been cleaned between guests, evidenced by a dirty toilet and sink. As other people said, consider the steep narrow stairs to the 5th floor, especially if you have heavy luggage! We didn't meet the host. Communication was easy.

***Please note: I will be traveling throughout Europe during the first few months of 2016. My very good friend Jenny will be living in my room and taking care of all my airbnb guests. If you are requesting a stay between January-May, you will be dealing with Jenny directly. She will be happy to help and answer any questions you may have. Happy travels!***

Hey there! I am Emily and I have been living in New York for nearly 5 years. I am from Memphis, Tennessee so I love all things Southern (whiskey, whisky, bourbon...). I think being from another area of the country also allows me to open my mind to this crazy city I live in and appreciate all the little things.

I am an events coordinator for 3 restaurants in the city and have big love for the food industry. I can help you find the best restaurants to eat while you're here - just ask!

I love to travel, but because I live in (as my mother often reminds me) "the world's most expensive city," I don't get to as much as I'd like. I love airbnb because it offers me the chance to meet you lovely people so at least if I'm not traveling, I can live vicariously through you.
