The Space

Hi there! I am excited to be renting a large, private room in my 2-bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City. The apartment is a 2-bedroom with the rooms on opposite sides, so there is plenty of privacy. The bedroom for rent is bright, airy, and has access to a fire escape (for anyone who smokes...). The kitchen (and "bar") is fully equipped (and almost always fully stocked) and you are more than welcome to use anything you find to cook yourself a wonderful dinner or just to grab coffee on your way out for sightseeing.

I am a very easy-going bartender in the city. I love meeting new people and consider myself a sort of "ambassador" of my city. I have lived here for nearly 3 years - long enough to have some insight, but still new enough to enjoy the sights and offer any advice to travelers. I work (email hidden) in the neighborhood, so stop in a grab a drink during your stay.

The neighborhood is great - tons of things to do but still on a quiet block so you can relax after a long day of sightseeing. Below are just a few of the many sights to see nearby my apartment:

-2 blocks from Central Park
-1 block from St. John's Cathedral
-Apollo Theatre in Harlem
-Columbia University
-Riverside Park
-Metropolitan Opera
-Julliard School
-Lincoln Center
-New York Ballet

These are just a few of the many sights that are all either within walking distance or only a few subway stops. I am located 2 blocks away from the 1, B, and C trains which all connect to express lines making it very easy to get anywhere in the city.

I can't wait to hear from you and am happy to answer any questions about the apartment or neighborhood, or New York in general!

  • Emily was very friendly and welcoming with my visit. She is a very cool chick and knows so much about being in NYC!! Her apartment is really homey and clean. The bathroom is small but suitable for a holiday visit and very serviceable.
I visited in summer and the guest room was light and airy. There is some noise from the street but nothing too much that it affects your sleep. Plenty of room for your suitcases and things. The apartment is in a great area and everything is easily accessible in walking distance.

  • We had a great time in New York last week at Emily's appartment, the place is clean, cousy and comfortable. It is exactly as you see it on the pictures.
Emily is such a great host, she was very nice and eager to help and recommend us places to eat or visit.
The subway is just two blocks away and also Central Park
There is a very convenient grocery store that opens late hours.
We will definitly recomend Emily's place if you are planning to visit NYC!!
Next time in NYC for sure we'd love to stay at Emily's

  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Emily! The apartment is super cool, lots of great ideas for designing your own place:) The room is spacious, the bed is very comfortable and we also had our very own fire escape! Also, there are 2 subway stops close by so it's pretty easy to get to the center.

Emily was very friendly and helpful and it was very easy to communicate with her. I was looking for a poster and she put a lot of effort in finding out where I could buy it. Thanks a lot again, Emily:) So overall, we would definitely recommend staying at Emily's place when in NYC!

  • We had a very pleasant stay. Our host Emily was very friendly and welcoming.
As a retired couple, we found the 65 stairs up to the apartment a bit of a challenge, something to bear in mind for the more senior citizens!!

  • Emily is warm and friendly person. Her apartment is cozy, well decorated and clean and it is in a great location (near Central Park and Underground station). We had wonderful stay there and hardly recommend this place.
Indeed the 5th floor is quite demanding for legs after the whole day of sightseeing :)

  • Emily is really sweet and welcoming. We took a redeye from California and arrived worse for wear with all our luggage at like 9 in the morning. At a hotel, we would have had to wait until 3 to rest, but Emily was so kind to let us drop off our luggage, take a nap and start exploring NY fresh and unencumbered by noon. We were soooo grateful!

Emily's place is cute and comfortable. You have to be prepared to walk up 5 stories of narrow stairs, but it was not a big deal to us, and Emily makes it very clear in her description. The apartment has everything we needed, felt much homier than a hotel in a cold, strange city, and was priced sooooo much more affordably! The only thing I would have wished for was a little bigger bathroom with a spot to put down my toiletries, but I figured for the price and the perfect location (we were there to tour Columbia and the city--right by Columbia, Central Park and the subway) in NYC and all the other comforts and conveniences, no counter in the bathroom was a small sacrifice!

  • both Emily and her place were great! It was clean and comfortable. we had full use of the house. she was easy going and an awesome guest. her place is at one end of central park, the north end, so it was very easy access to the park. it is also right on subway lines. thanks for a fab stay.

  • Emily was very welcoming and her appartment is great! It looks just like in the pictures. What you don't see on the pictures is that Emily is a great host; she is a warm and friendly person, and her appartment is well decorated and clean. The neighbourhood is quiet and there are lots of very nice places to eat. We loved to stay at her place and definitly recommend her!

Hey there! I am Emily and I have been living in New York for nearly 3 years. I am from Memphis, Tennessee so I love all things Southern (whiskey, whisky, bourbon...). I think being from another area of the country also allows me to open my mind to this crazy city I live in and appreciate all the little things. I am a bartender in the neighborhood I live in and through that have grown a great appreciation for the area and the people that live here. I can tell you the best places to eat, drink, relax and have fun. Just ask! I love to travel, but because I live in (as my mother often reminds me) "the world's most expensive city," I don't get to as much as I'd like. I love airbnb because it offers me the chance to meet you lovely people so at least if I'm not traveling, I can live vicariously through you. Message me to find out more! xoxo
