Apartment - Private room · Calle 10, Calacoto, Nuestra Señora de La Paz, La Paz Department, Bolivia

The Space

On offer a guest bedroom with a double bed that accommodates up to two persons in the apartment in which I live. Guest(s) will have a bathroom with a glass door walk-in shower for exclusive use (you don’t have to share it with anyone else). There is also another half bathroom which you may use. The apartment has a water heater which means that you'll get hot water 24 hours a day in your bathroom and the kitchen. You'll appreciate it when the temperature drops at night in winter and unheated water is ice cold. It also means you'll get good water pressure in the shower as opposed to showers that don't have water heaters.
The apartment is in a third floor (there is an elevator) and is located in one of the best residential neighborhoods in the city so it is very quiet and safe. Clean sheets, bedding and towels are provided and changed every week on Fridays (if you stay for more than a week) and your room will be cleaned and bed made every day but Sunday. There is free wireless internet in the apartment and cable TV in your room. The bedroom has a heater in case the temperature drops and you feel the need to use it, although the apartment gets lots of sun and is generally warm.
You can use the washer in the apartment but for a small fee you can have your clothing washed and ironed instead of doing it yourself. The kitchen is fully equipped, you can make use of it any time you want and you will have your own shelf in my fridge as well as shelf space in the kitchen. The living-dining room is a quiet, comfortable hang out.
Parking space for one car is provided in the building for a US$5 fee per day.
The apartment is located in the residential south side of the city, about three to four hundred meters less in altitude than the center of town which is 3,600 meters above sea level, which means it is two to three degrees centigrade warmer and there is more oxygen! (La Paz is between 3100 and 3900 meters above sea level, depending on what part of the city you’re at; that translates to about 10,170 feet to 12,795 feet, or between 1.93 and 2.42 miles. Denver is left far behind! Or should I say below?). From the apartment there are all kinds of public transportation to the center of town just three blocks away which means you can get there in 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. There is also a taxi stand around the corner from the apartment. The airport is 15 kilometers away (about 9 miles).
The apartment is ten blocks from San Miguel, a prime commercial and shopping center and the trendiest neighborhood of La Paz, where you’ll find a number of cafes and excellent restaurants of all kinds. Five blocks in the opposite direction from the apartment you can find a couple of the most popular bars and pubs in town. There is also a mall with a multiplex and more restaurants and pubs about twelve to fourteen blocks away.
There is a small supermarket nearby and a much larger one within walking distance (five to ten minutes) and there are a couple of tiny grocery stores around the corner. For breakfast you’re welcome to any cereals, bread, yogurt or fruit that may be available when you get here, as well as to coffee, tea or milk upon arrival and any other time. There is a very nice pub/restaurant that goes by the name Risky Business that also serves breakfast some fifty meters from the apartment. Three blocks away is the five stars Camino Real Hotel with the La Tranquera restaurant that offers fine Bolivian and international food. There is a drugstore diagonal to the Camino Real Hotel.
As your host I’ll be happy to assist and help accommodate any needs/requests as well as point you in the right direction for tourism, shopping and entertainment. Check-in/check-out time is flexible. Please tell me before booking though if you are arriving early in the day or late at night; likewise regarding the time that you may be leaving. You're welcome to drop off your luggage if arriving early or store your luggage if you're leaving late. Please just ask!

Check In
  • Carlos is a nice host, his appartement is clean, new and in a very good neighborhood, even though it's far from downtown area but it's very easy to go there. There is the radio taxi right around the corner. We had a really good time in La Paz and his place.

  • Good place in La Paz, next to the famous restaurant GUSTU. Good internet and erudite & friendly host; I had a good conversation with Carlos, and he ensured my short stay was a pleasant one.

When I was at George Washington University in Washington D.C. a couple of years ago I stumbled upon Airbnb. It seemed like a great idea so I decided to give it a try. I wanted to visit some friends up in New York and take in the U.S. Open as well so I booked a stay in a place in Queens (where I used to live when I was in grade school) and it worked out fine. When I returned home I decided to try the opposite side of the coin and be a host, I must admit, not without a little bit of trepidation. I mean, I had roommates in college with whom I even shared the same room, but that was a long time ago. So, since I had a spare bedroom in the place where I was living I went ahead and rented it out through Airbnb. Anyway, I’m happy to say that I’ve enjoyed hosting interesting and fine guests and I’m glad that I decided to become a host. Now that I have the chance to be a host for an entire apartment I’m looking forward to meeting other interesting and fine people. My hope is that I might make a difference in their, actually your, enjoyment and appreciation of La Paz if you come here, helping you to have the best experience possible. See you soon!
