A perfect getaway!
One of our latest guest just mentioned, " I felt as if I had visited a small European inn, complete with delicious breakfast and an English garden. This property is a beautiful location and so close to the beach!"
Spring is here and this season on the Coast is one of the best kept secrets by locals. The summer crowds are not here yet and the area is wonderful to explore.
This is a special place located in a sunny, private valley bordering the Soquel Creek with mountain views. Guests remark how serene and peaceful it is to stay here, but how close and accessible to all activities the Central Coast and Bay Area has to offer. The gardens are in bloom with roses and irises in full display by Mother's day! Local nursery growers surround the property and seasonally plant flowers including 80,000 tulips in winter and dahlias, gladiolas and sunflowers in summer. Fall has beautiful foliage as the trees turn color along the creek. The sunsets are beautiful this time of year and the stars are shining. Our guest suite is separate but attached to our home; and is clean, coastal inspired offering a FULL size bed, HDTV/Direct TV in the bedroom with soft linens, fluffy towels and yummy morning treats await you! A nice wine to welcome your arrival and a homemade frittata for morning along with juice, bagels, cream cheeses, yogurt and toppings including fresh fruit and, of course, coffee and tea. The living room has a comfy couch, relaxing chairs for reading or lounging, and HDTV/Direct TV and Comcast high speed internet. The property is gated, offering privacy and security in a tranquil setting. Located on 6 acres of manicured lawns and gardens, the property has pastures with pet llamas you can feed with the owner or use the prepackaged llama feed in your room to throw over the fence and they will love you! Catch the surrounding wildlife in the evenings as the deer and rabbits come out in the yard and the great blue heron comes to visit the pasture occasionally too.
Quail families, dragonflys and hummingbirds abound. Enjoy your welcome wine on the front deck. Play bocce ball and croquet on the lawn. You will find privacy behind the gated drive. The road dead ends but has walking trails and is down the street and within walking distance to antique and quaint downtown stores, restaurants, coffee and bagel shops in Soquel Village. Within walking distance is a winery. Restaurants, nightclubs and boutiques are in Capitola Beach Esplanade. Borrow our beach chairs and towels and spend the day at the beach. Come be our guest at this charming guest suite which is centrally located along the coast within 6 miles from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 2 minutes to Capitola Beach and 40 minutes from Monterey and Carmel. A short walk, bike or car ride is Land of the Medicine Buddha with 6 miles of hiking trails, Kennolyn Camp is up the hill on Glenhaven Road, and Branch Out Farm is a local farm stand for fresh veggies located 2 doors down on Thursdays and Friday afternoons. Within walking distance is Bargetto Winery Tasting Room along the Soquel Creek and Soquel Vineyards up the road. Nisene Marks bike and hiking trails are close by and bike rental is available. We invite you to walk the neighborhood and stroll the village or spend the day at one of the many beaches in the area. Summer in Capitola hosts Wednesday evening concerts, the Wharf to Wharf race finish line/party, the Begonia Festival, and Art and Wine Show in the fall. Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is home to Friday night concerts and amusement park rides. Thursdays evenings hosts Music at the Bargetto Winery, which is in walking distance!
Excellent golf courses of Seascape and Delaveaga are nearby too. Wednesday night concerts are at Capitola Beach in summer, and we are less than 2 miles from the finish line of the Wharf to Wharf race in July. For the animal lovers, a short trip up Highway 1 is Ano Nueva where the seal lion pups are born in the spring, the Monterey Bay Aquarium or UCSC Marine Lab are must sees! Great whale watching or kayak is so close down Highway 1 in Moss Landing. Hiking trails right down the road at Land of the Medicine Buddha have banana slugs, a local university mascot. Excellent mountain bike, walking and hiking trails are right down the road. Lots of biking enthusiasts have stayed here because we are so close to the popular trails and there is no worry about the bikes. Or take a drive down the Coast to Big Sur, Monterey and Carmel-all so close!
Each season of the year has many local attractions as well as the gardens come alive with blooms in spring and summer! The property has plum, nectarine, avocado, apricot, walnut and kiwis so depending on which season you stay, you can share in the harvest. The garden is in, so veggies will be soon too! We are looking forward to your stay!
Please note: 3 day weekends of Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, MLK, and Presidents' Day require a 2 night minimum reservation. No pets or smoking.
Please check out our affordable weekly and monthly rates.
You have access to the guest suite, gardens, yards, use of the front deck which is common area to the house and guest suite. Feel free to use the table and chairs for al fresco dining, a picnic table and umbrella, picnic basket and linens, croquet and bocce balls are waiting for you. Or take the beach towels, chairs and umbrella and head to the beach!
In summer hang out after a day at the beach or site seeing. We are in the sunny area of town so when the fog rolls in at the ocean, the sun will be shining. The lawn, picnic table and chairs will all be at your disposal at the big lawn area. We have 2 refurbished cruiser bikes if you would like to take them for a spin!
Interaction with Guests
Depending on your schedule and ours, sometimes we do not get a chance to meet however we are always a text/phone call away for anything you might need. If you want to have a close up experience and meet/feed the llamas, just let us know. You are welcome to wander the grounds and feed them from the basket down by the pasture by throwing the food over the fence or just sit back, relax and take in the view from the deck. There is a picnic basket and linens to dine outside in the fresh air and clear nights the stars are shining. Your hosts will frequently be working in the garden and sharing the seasonal harvest is certainly our pleasure!
This is a hidden gem. Close to shopping, beach and all amenities and activities. Privacy and tranquility, walking trails or a short jaunt into the village and Capitola Beach. An easy drive down the coast to Carmel, Monterey and Big Sur. Check out our guidebook too!

IS THIS THE PERFECT PLACE FOR YOU?
-- If you are looking for a "partying" type of place, this is NOT the spot for you. We ask that guests respect the peace, quiet and tranquility of the neighborhood.
-- Although our children are on the property, I would not describe this place as "kid friendly" for toddlers.
--This is a strict No Smoking property.
--No Pets allowed.
--You are welcome to use the yogurt, fruit, cereals, milk, coffee, tea, cocoa, popcorn, condiments or other food items in your room, our treat.
--Enjoy your “Welcome Wine”, our compliments.
--You are welcome to walk the property, visit the llamas and feed them with the owner.
--The soaps, shampoos and other product are there for you to use. If you forget your toothbrush, razor or even need a shot of deodorant, don’t worry, that’s there too.
--Please use the make-up remover towelettes that are provided. Eye make-up can ruin the nice bath towels.
--Please do not flush anything but toilet paper down the toilet.
--WE DO NOT CHARGE A CLEANING FEE – Please leave the place tidy.
--SOUND CARRIES LIKE CRAZY -- Please respect the peace and quiet of the neighborhood.
--PLEASE USE THE CUTTING BOARDS not the counter.
--CONSERVE ENERGY– Please turn off lights/heater when you are not using them.
--RECYCLE, REUSE – Please use recycling bin under the sink.
--STUFF HAPPENS– Please do not flush tampons or other things down the toilet. A plumbing back up will ruin your trip. There are plastic bags available for trash disposal.
Please drain cooking oil/grease in to the jar under the cabinet.
--USE WHAT YOU NEED – But please don’t remove items from the property.
This guest house was beautiful! The hosts made us feel super welcome by filling the refrigerator with snacks for us and by providing us with a lovely bottle of "welcome wine." They also left helpful notes with directions for how to use and find things we might have needed. The best feature was the outdoor space which was incredibly beautiful, peaceful, and expansive. We took the picnic basket the hosts provided and enjoyed wine and cheese on the lawn while the sun went down. The llamas were adorable! The house was also pretty close to a number of restaurants and the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, both of which we took advantage of during our stay.
Great place to stay if your in the Santa Cruz area. Very private location and the hosts are super friendly! Definitely would stay here in the future.
My aunt and I loved staying at the Soquel Estate! Everything was as it was in all pictures and and description. I know that I will stay here again if they will have me!
Thanks so much
This place was Perfect! The house had Everything you could need and a little more. There was a full fridge with snacks, toiletries, a complimentary bottle of wine. Generous surprises seemed to be around every corner and there were little notes left to help guide us to what we needed and provide friendly tips. It was a very enjoyable experience, very unique to the hotel alternative. Backyard was amazing! And we both fought over the homegrown tomatoes that were left for us at arrival. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. So nice :-)
This place is great! Exactly as pictured. We arrived after the sun went down and still were able to take a stroll on the beautiful grounds and lounge on a bench and see all the stars.
Kelly was great and very responsive to texts. In the morning I texted to see if we could go see the llamas and she took us down 10 minutes later! That was the best.
The place itself is nice with all the amenities you need. I was grateful for the coffee and bagels and fruit in the morning. The only thing that could be improved is the bed. Not the best but ok for a few nights sleep. We have a foam topper at home so are a little spoiled.
We would definitely stay here again. Beautiful place in a beautiful town.
Thanks for the wonderful stay, Conway!
The guest house had everything we needed. The garden was beautiful and very calming. Our host was very helpful with every question we had. The fridge was full of food for us. There is a nice and cute Italian restaurant not far from the house, also Bargetto Winery, which is close to the house, is also a nice place to stop by and have some wine. Our Santa Cruz visit was a very nice experience, and staying at Sequel Estate has made it even better!
Our Family loves the coastal lifestyle and Soquel is in a great location to enjoy it all.
Our family is active with a teenage son in sports and a recent college graduate son working in the hospitality and film industry who will be frequently serving as your host.
We live on the property but you will find a private, attached guest suite to enjoy. We look forward to meeting you soon!
