Away from the tourist areas of Kona, this quiet, private flat is in a plantation style house, on an acre and a half, at a cool 1600' elevation. The property is a 10 minute drive from the Kona Airport, 12 minutes from Kailua-Kona town.
A perfect place for a quiet vacation in Kona! On the flanks of Mt. Hualalai, you will find rain forests, coffee plantations, art galleries and the rich cultural life of Hawaii. Beaches, restaurants, and tourist activities are a short 15 minute drive away.
The house is at the end of long driveway, adjacent to state land, so it is private, with a beautiful view of the coastline. The unit is half of the downstairs, separate from the upstairs family quarters.
The 650 sq. foot (60.4 sq. meters) unit includes a bedroom, bathroom (with shampoo/conditioner, etc), a living area with a double futon bed available, and a kitchenette (including a fridge, microwave, induction element, coffee maker and sink) so that guests can make breakfast, create a picnic lunch or cook a basic dinner.
The property has many fruit trees, and we love to share bananas, papayas, oranges, tangerines, or avocados ~ whatever is in season ~ with our guests.
We hike, swim and dive, and we are happy to provide information and recommendations about where to go for recreational or cultural experiences. We love the Big Island, and want to share this special spot with others. We look forward to helping guests to have the best experience of Hawaii during their stay.

Guests have access to the ground floor of the house, as well as the garden, outside shower and parking space.
Interaction with guests
We love the Big Island, and feel so fortunate to live here that we want to share our lovely spot with others. We look forward to helping guests to have the best experience possible during their stay. However, we are also respectful of their privacy.
The neighborhood is quiet and close to beautiful running/biking/hiking paths. Beaches and excellent swim/snorkel/dive locations are 15 minute drive from the house. Restaurants are nearby. This location is close to anything you might want for your vacation, but offers you a quiet, authentic home-away-from home.
Note: The coqui frogs that have come to the Big Island have indeed also found their way to our forest this year. For light sleepers, ear plugs might be handy.
Public transportation is not available in this area, so renting a car is necessary to stay here.
Other things to note
While we don't have TV, we do have wi-fi that is available to guests.
The 14% State Transient and Excise Taxes are included in the daily rate; there will be no further costs.
We ask that there is no smoking anywhere on the property.
Pets are not permitted.
As is customary in Hawaii, we ask that you take off shoes before coming into the house.
Rinse your feet of sand before entering using the outside shower or hose.
We ask that the house is quiet by 10:00 PM.
We live on Hawaii Island, the largest and southernmost island in the Hawaiian chain. Lovers of hiking, ocean swimming and diving, wholesome food, and good books, we embrace Life in all its varied forms.
Originally from the Bay Area and Australia, we've lived in Hawaii since 1990; this is where our children were born and raised. (They are now adventuring adults exploring other parts of the world.) We are happy to share the beauty, cultural richness and peace of this island.
