The Hawk was absolutely wonderful! Our stay was seamless in terms if check in and finding the location. Joan has stocked this redwood surrounded mini cabin/apartment with snacks and coffee. The absolute best place to wake up in the morning. The private balcony and sauna are among some other highlights. Joan is all you can ask for in a host. I could not recommend staying at the hawk more highly.
Everything was just as described but better. There were great goodies in the fridge and the comfort of the place is ideal. Truly a haven in crowded Marin and how great is it to sit out on the deck among the red woods looking at Mt. Tam with a cup of coffee in the morning. I highly recommend this place and I know we will be back.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 6-night stay at the Hawk! The studio was beautiful, very clean, and comfortable. Comfy mattress and pillows, lovely linens, lots of extra towels. The kitchen had everything I needed to prepare breakfast and simple meals, and Joan left all sorts of lovely snacks and other goodies to enjoy. The large private deck was awesome - among towering Redwoods with a spectacular view of Mt. Tam, and so quiet! My favorite thing to do in the morning was to lay in a lounge chair and sip tea while drinking in the beauty. The location was ideal - a minute drive to downtown Mill Velley with lots of nice restaurants and shops, and a short drive to Hwy 101/the city/Mt Tam and Muir Woods. Lastly, Joan was very easy to work with. We didn't meet in person, but she responded quickly to messages and the key exchange was easy. I highly recommend the Hawk!
The Hawk is a wonderful place with fantastic amenities and spectacular views. We hope to visit again in the near future.
I spent six nights at The Hawk. It's a wonderful, secluded, romantic, hideaway on a mountain top, that's tucked high amongst towering redwoods, like a treehouse. I saw a number of deer as I was coming and going. The Hawk has beautiful views from every window as well as its private deck. The bed was extremely comfortable. The kitchen nook was stocked with a variety of delicious snacks, and the microwave, mini-frig, kitchen amenities were perfect, especially with so many great places to eat in the village just a few minutes away by car. And, The Hawk is just a 10 minute drive to Sausalito and only 20 minutes across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco. Upon arrival, everything was immaculate and there was plenty of plush towels and hot water in the shower for when you need it. (As described, The Hawk has it's own wi-fi router and there is no cellular signal from the unit, but I was able to text freely from my cellphone with no problem after logging into the unit's wi-fi network.) Joan is fabulous host – she was there when I arrived and I saw her car in the driveway during part of my stay, but was never a bother. The Hawk is truly a find and a "one of a kind" experience – I highly recommend it and will definitely consider coming back. Thanks, Joan...
This was our first experience with Airbnb and it was wonderful! It didn't hurt that Joan's place was an oasis in the redwoods with a short drive into SF. The room was cozy and well equipped with everything we needed including a secluded deck, wonderful snacks, and SAUNA! It is very secluded so if you like peace and quiet this is not the place for you. We go to Marin frequently to visit family and we plan to return with bells on our toes. Thank you Joan, it was far more than we expected.
WOW! That pretty much sums up our experience at Ms. Joan's amazing little piece of heaven. My husband and I arrived early morning (3:30 AM!), and were welcomed with treats and breakfast on the counter and fridge, an amazingly comfortable bed, and an overall relaxing feel. We met Joan the next morning and felt so welcomed by her. This was our first experience using Airbnb and we were blown away by her hospitality. The little apartment is located in between tall, beautiful redwoods with an incredible view that can be seen from bed. If driving a larger vehicle, the drive to this spot is a bit tricky (think steep climbs and sharp turns). It is close enough to the city of San Francisco to drive in and spend some time there, but also provides a peaceful escape that encourages relaxation. The sauna on the private deck was also a little something extra that my husband enjoyed. If ever back in the area, we will definitely check to see if this place is available. It was the perfect spot for us that exceeded every expectation. We loved it!
And back at you both for being emblematic perfect guests! Thanks for all the acknowledgements and compliments. Please know we have NO bugs here in northern California, thus no screens. One of those windows likely came from the factory with a screen on it, but I have NONE in my main house upstairs and walls of windows and french doors. One of MANY things we love about our weather! So glad the trip was an overall success and airbnb rocks!

About the Host, Joan
I am an adventurer, and and an entrepreneur. Mother of two grown daughters and three grandchildren.
Still Light Pond came to be in a dream...redwoods, a pond, a meadow, a old red farmhouse, exquisite light. I went online and imagined where that kind of property could be...and indeed it existed and was for sale, and I bought it without questioning why! I feel privileged to be her steward this last decade.
The location feels like Italy with the soft and 'forever' light. The natural pond, seasonal creek, redwood grove, large flat meadow, little hiking trails, orchard etc. all on just 4 acres feels like a thousand! The setting and the finishes to the house I was lucky enough to do with the addition of the master suite have indeed made it a mini estate.
