Simply put, this is the best place we've ever found through airbnb. The location, the room, the decor, the amenities, the host... We can't say enough good things to properly praise The Hawk's Nest. The room and the view are so much more breathtaking than the photographs can capture, and Mill Valley is the best possible place to enjoy San Francisco from a distance.
Joan has already received a load of accolades on this site, and rightfully so. She was prompt in our communication and detailed in every aspect of our stay. We will definitely be staying here again, and we would highly recommend it to anyone we know visiting the Bay Area.
Joan's place is a wonderful gem in a gorgeous setting. The room was perfect for us to use as a home-base and was full of surprises, from the treats left for us in the fridge, the quality toiletries available, the gorgeous private deck and sauna, and last but not least, the amazing view of Mt. Tam just out the window upon waking.
The room was immaculate and well cared for, with lots of books to peruse, the bed was comfy, and it all felt very private.
Joan was a gracious host and left goodies for breakfast, including coffee and tea, and wine and cheese for enjoying on the deck later. She also was available to answer questions about accessing hikes nearby.
Joan's place sits pretty high upon a hill and we had a tricky time getting our large van up and down, so Joan had a great recommendation for a car service that came to pick us up and drop us off right at her house. So easy and it let us enjoy some nightlife in Mill Valley!
Thanks Joan, for your generosity and for sharing your sweet slice of paradise in Mill Valley with us! We hope to be able to come back again!
My arrival at the property was after 11:00 pm and being bushed from travel my senses were delighted at the cleanliness and simplicity of the room. The refrigerator and kitchenette area were filled with special tasty delicacies including organic figs. The bed is comfortable and the sheet and covers and towels were first class. The internet works flawlessly though for the phone you must walk up to the area where the car is parked. The home is close to town and hiking in the GGNRA and far enough away from town and neighbors to provide much peace and quiet. The apartment/room has a generous deck with a sauna which I didn't use. The view from the room and deck of Mount Tam is marvelous. Joan is friendly and available if needed. I like Joan and the room and will return there.
We couldn't have enjoyed our stay at the Hawk any more! In addition to being a stunning location in an idyllic town close to SF, the guest house is just perfectly appointed (I'd say better than advertised) and Joan was exceptionally accommodating. We can't wait to return!
The Hawk is a sanctuary in the treetops. It is beautiful yet unaffected, relaxing as all get-out, clean as a whistle, and utterly pampering. Joan has thought of everything, just come and enjoy. You may never want to leave (I know I didn't!).
I was looking for a private, quiet, and atmospheric space in which to finish a writing project over a long weekend, and Joan's place ("The Hawk") exceeded my expectations. Not only were the studio and private deck nestled among towering redwoods and facing Mt. Tam beautiful and peaceful, I arrived after a long day of traveling from NYC to arrive to a space with everything I could have needed, and more: fully stocked fridge/counter with goodies, fluffy towels, lovely-scented toiletries, and a high-end hotel-worthy bed. The only slight hitch was that I did struggle a bit connecting to wifi, but I did eventually figure out how to make it work somewhat consistently (by optimizing the settings on the mobile hotspot hub that was provided), and there is no cell reception, even when walking down the road a bit. But depending on your needs, that might be a good thing, as it mostly was for me since I was on deadline! I'd definitely go back if I was in the area. Highly recommended.
Our short 2 night stay was a wonderful, rejuvenating retreat in The Hawk and wished we could have stayed longer. It was like a high luxury camping experience being high in the trees with only the finest decor. So close to hiking, shopping, & the beach, yet while there, it was quiet, secluded & so comfy. We indulged in the yummy snacks & caught up on some much needed sleep. Joan was responsive to our needs while giving us privacy. Would love to spend an entire week there! Or maybe a lifetime ;)

I am an adventurer, and and an entrepreneur. Mother of two grown daughters and three grandchildren.
Still Light Pond came to be in a dream...redwoods, a pond, a meadow, a old red farmhouse, exquisite light. I went online and imagined where that kind of property could be...and indeed it existed and was for sale, and I bought it without questioning why! I feel privileged to be her steward this last decade.
The location feels like Italy with the soft and 'forever' light. The natural pond, seasonal creek, redwood grove, large flat meadow, little hiking trails, orchard etc. all on just 4 acres feels like a thousand! The setting and the finishes to the house I was lucky enough to do with the addition of the master suite have indeed made it a mini estate.
