Steps from Holly Park, this charming Bernal Heights inlaw flows into a large, sunny manicured yard with fireplace, BBQ and mature trees. The property is 6 minutes walk to Bernal Village its coffee, sushi and bars. Fully furnished and turn key. Cat lovers only please!
The unit is the first floor of our two-story home. We own the building and live upstairs. We keep the inlaw open for friends and family who come to visit. However, we rent it when we're out of town because we prefer to have people in it rather than leaving it empty.
What I love about the space is how it flows into the sunny south-facing yard. The place has a true indoor-outdoor feel to it.
Guests access the apt through the garage - keys are in a lockbox.
Interaction with Guests
If you catch us when we're in town, we're pretty social people and love to have a glass of wine, but we do value our privacy and respect the same of other's. Chances are that we will be out of town when you are here.
Bernal Heights is becoming one of the hottest locations in SF because of it's village-like atmosphere, abundance of park space and awesome main street: Cortland ave - which we are a 6-minute walk from.
Glen Park BART station is 12 minutes walk, and two bus lines stop within a 3-minute walk.
Other Things to Note
We leave our cat Elliot, here when we travel. If you're allergic or do not like cats, this is probably not a good fit! The Cat will want to keep your company and hang out with you.
We are very good friends with all of our neighbors and we all respect a peaceful environment. Absolutely no loud parties. Absolutely no smoking indoors, smoking is permitted outside provided you use an ashtray. Sorry, no pets...our cat Elliot is pretty territorial.
David's garden apartment was exactly what we expected. The back yard is beautiful and his friendly cat made us feel at home. I would definitely stay there again. Thanks:)
We stayed for 10 nights and David's place was a great home away from home. We have been to San Francisco before and stayed in a more touristy location, but much preferred our time in Bernal Heights. It is a lovely area with beautiful homes and great restaurants on Cortland Avenue (and amazing views across the city from Bernal Heights Park).
The flat itself is as shown in the pictures and has most things you would need for a longer stay - it was great to be able to use the washer and drier. The lovely garden is also a real bonus. When we couldn't find an iron or board, we contacted David and he told us how to go up into their apartment to borrow one. We also enjoyed being surrogate cat owners - Elliot did always want to hang around with us though, so as David says, only cat lovers should stay here.
David and his family were away on holiday for our stay, but we did actually meet him when he briefly came back to the city for a meeting, and he was very friendly.
The he host was very thorough in his description of the apartment and how to get in, use the TV, the heater and the security locks. He even made videos showing exactly how everything worked. Everything was just as was described.
Dave was a great host and a really nice person. The garden apartment is charming, in a retro way, sort of like staying on a boat that someone made by hand. Many rustic finishes and odd fixtures and knickknacks, but everything was immaculate and functional. Initially the family had intended to be away during my stay but their plans changed. So Dave was there to help me find things, change light bulbs, and get the dvd player hooked up properly. If you stay there while they are there, you may experience the sound of small children overhead.
The apartment is clean but a little rugged and if you can forget about the car in the next room its fine. if you don't like cats this is not the place for you. Eliot the cat rules, and seems to think this is his apartment and there is no way to keep him from entering if you don't want to sleep with him. But David was super sweet and accommodating.
