About this listing
Three bedroom traditional home in North Kerry area. The house is situated in a rural location in between Ballylongford and Ballybunnion which has a beautiful beach and golf course. The house is self catering and an old style house with peat stove.
Lounge, Kitchen, double room with double bed, 2 single rooms one single bed in each, one attic room which contains books and toys. Solid fuel central heating. immersion heater, washing maching, small fridge freezer, shower and bathroom, all beds/mattress are NEW downstairs. Radio (there is no TV) - there is NO INTERNET ACCESS. There is bedding and towels which guests are welcome to borrow, but they are not new (they are clean!)
Heat is traditional solid fuel peat (located in the back yard) dug from local bog. There is coal as well.
You need a car in this part of the country - it is very rural and too far to walk to the local village although you can cycle (using one of the bikes in the shed however I cannot guarantee that they won't have a flat tyre!)
Close to one of the best pubs in Ireland in Ballylongford! 5 minute drive away.
The closest towns are Listowel and Ballybunion which has a STUNNING beach and brilliant golf course. The Cliffs of Moher are an hour's drive but a sight worth visiting. Dingle is a 45 minute drive and the Ring of Kerry is a 30 minute drive. We are close to Tarbert from where you can catch a ferry to County Clare.
Airports: Shannon (1 hour drive) or Kerry Faranfore (45 mins) you will need to hire a car unless you drive & ferry it. The drive from Dublin is around 3 hours.
Interaction with Guests
My neighbour will come in every day and let you in and keep an eye out. She will need to teach you to use the stove & oven.
This is a very rural location and there is one neighbour. The other neighbours are trees and cows.
There is very little public transport so you need to drive or cycle.
Very quaint and authentic irish country cottage. Anne's directions were easy to follow . The peat-burning stove gives the place a warmth which enhances the natural features. We had everything we needed. Anne's neighbour Helen looked after us well, offering to keep the stove burning etc. The lack of TV and wifi wasn't an issue. We visited Listowel, Ballybunion and Killarney, which are all nearby
Helen made us feel very welcome , she had prepared everything for us including ensuring the house was cosy and warm. The house was in a very peaceful location and easy to find. Helen was both friendly and helpful. The house was comfortable and spacious, just as we had expected from the details..
The ace is great. Newish, well-furnished, clean, bright and walkable to the City Centre. And Kathy, the owner, is a gem. Friendly and helpful. Wonderful place.
For a small price you get a complete cottage with two comfy bedrooms, a garden, a torf-oven, a kitchen and beautful landscape. What else do you want?
Its kind of remote and a bit hard to find, but once you are there (and got welcomed by the extremely friendly houskeeper Helen) you dont wanna leave anymore.
Great little hide away in north Kerry that was just like stepping back in time. Well prepared and looked after while there by neighbour Helen... a lovely woman who really added to a very positive experience. Particularly loved the turf fire range.... wish I could have stayed more than just one night!
This place was pure delight. A simple cottage in the Irish countryside (apparently once home to a family with 13 children), it has everything you need for a restful stay. Neighbour Helen is attentive and good-humoured; her hands-on lesson in building a peat fire was a highlight of the stay. An excellent value for the price, too.
