Private room in an all male rooming house in Buffalo's historic and lively Allentown neighborhood!
The historic building contains 8 other private rooms housing only men.
The private room contains a refrigerator, microwave and sink. Guests are allowed access to shared second floor bathroom.
I do not live on the property, but am always a phone call away to answer any questions about your stay or the buffalo area. Sheets and towels are cleaned every other week (for long term guests). Minimum stay is seven nights.
Allentown is a lively, artistic and historic neighborhood. The building is located minutes from downtown Buffalo and within walking distance of Main Street and Allen Street, which contain many local and unique restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops and live music.
Niagara Falls (30 minutes away) and Toronto (about 90 minutes away depending on traffic) make great excursions during your stay in Buffalo!
The space is close to many of the area's colleges, including University of Buffalo, D'Youville, Medaille and Buffalo State College. In addition, the property is located about a mile from Women and Children's Hospital and less than a mile from Buffalo General Medical Center.
The property is located within walking distance from bus stops. Free street parking is available to guests.
I had a fantastic and thoroughly satisfying stay in this room for two weeks in October. The room was spacious, equipped with handy facilities (Fridge, Microwave, desk and other miscellaneous necessities). The bathroom was clean and tidy and I never had to wait to use it. You just have to wait a few minutes for the hot water to flow. There was no wi-fi at the time (think there may be in future), but there were various places nearby where you can connect, like Cafe59 in the mornings, or the laundrymat on Elmwood. Also having no wi-fi at night means you'll read more so it's good for you. :-)
The room is in a rooming house with an assortment of men between their late 30s to 80s - I had some lovely porch conversations and, along with meeting some proper locals, was made to feel very welcome. The neighbourhood is highly recommended (especially if you're adventurous and on a budget) - Buffalo is bordering on a ghost-town (if you're used to big cities) and it seems like all the life is around here, stretching up Elmwood Avenue as well. I felt very safe. It's right near theatres and music venues which I made use of, as well as a choice selection of bars, cafes, restaurants and some music venues. Allen st also has one of the best book shops around - Rust Belt Books - the staff are great and it's full of exciting rarities and first editions (especially American Poetry).
I was doing research at the University of Buffalo so everyday I had to take the trolly (from the 3minute away Allen/Medical Campus station) and then another bus. This was the only downside about the stay - if you don't have a car or even a bike and you want to go somewhere like the University you have to adjust to the very slow public transport. But that has nothing to do with Emily and the room she's provided. However, if, like me, you are no stranger to walking, it is possible to see lots of things on foot. I'd highly recommend a visit to the Silocity which is a deserted factory silo in the old industrial district - it's used as an arts venue and is beautiful to explore. And of course Niagra falls is just a bus ride away - I've been there a few times so didn't go but it's definitely something for the bucket list if you're in Buffalo.
Overall this room was perfect for me (a poor grad-student) and if you don't mind meeting friendly local people and being within walking distance of various sociable places then I'd highly recommend it.
