The Space

This bright and comfortable flat is on the 2nd floor (no elevator) of an ancient building, belonging to the 1600'(website hidden) has original ceiling frescos from 18th Century and it is located in one of the most typical areas in Rome: Borgo Pio, in the Vatican district. The name origin is Burg, meaning a small village.

It is composed of 2 double rooms (1 room has a bed on a mezzanine), a spacious living room with a sofa double-bed and a table with chairs, a kitchen and a bathroom. It can sleep up to 6 people. It is decorated in an antique manner with its huge bookcase (hand-made by the owner which is a talented restorer) and its frames, all in bohemian style.

Borgo Pio includes the most important monuments of the ancient Rome and stay nearby other characteristic place of Rome: St.Peter Square, Vatican Museums and St.Angel Castle are 1 minute walk, Trastevere is 5 minutes walk and also Navona Square, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Spanish Steps are reachable in maximum 10 mins. Bus stops and metro stop (Ottaviano) are at walking distance and will enable you to reach all other Rome major sites/museums including Colosseum, Borghese Gallery, St. Clemente Church, St. John Basilica very easily.

The street where “Fresco’s place” is located gives the name to the entire area: Borgo Pio. This area is bordered by Vatican City (Saint Peter's Square) to the west, the Tiber to the east, Prati to the north, the quartiere Aurelio to the southwest and Trastevere to the south. The main roads run east-west and (with the noteworthy exception of the modern Via della Conciliazione) are not named Vie (streets), but Borghi, such as small villages.

The street of “Fresco’s place” is mainly pedestrian which gives calmness both during the day and at night and is plenty of restaurants, gelato shops and bars. You will be delighted by the typical atmosphere, by the characteristic paving and by the hidden corners of this area…you will feel like staying in a village in the centre of the Eternal City!

Shopping is also possible in the nearby Via Cola di Rienzo and Via Ottaviano, with beautiful and trendy shops and boutiques as well as historical coffee shops and Typical Italian products shops.

  • My Mum, uncle and I spent three nights in Antonio's fantastic apartment and had a great time! It is a lovely place with everything you need and the location is perfect. Antonio was very easy to get in touch with and made sure we had everything we needed - the perfect host! I would definitely stay here again.

  • Antonio is a nice man.His apartment is very well located, near the Vatican, in a levily and pleasant street. However, the apartment did not have wifi, i need to learn about the city, the TV and the fridge was a little dirty. Apart from that nothing to say about the pretty and typical Italian decor.

  • Stepping into Antonio's apartment was like stepping into the heart of Rome. The decor is perfectly artistic and ramshackle in all the right places making you feel immediately part of your own Roman, Hemingway-esque novel.
The buzz of Borgo Pio floats up from the street, a mixture of restaurant chatter and accordion music whilst the frescoed ceiling and detailed floor tiles further remind you there is only one city in the world where you could be.

If you're a 'foody' don't bother with the restaurants on Borgo Pio, buy food from the deli and eat in or head to the south side of Trastevere, it's far more authentic and better value. Or just near Santa Maria in Trastevere we stumbled upon a great place called 'Augusto' on Piazza De Renzi - no frills, brilliant food.

There is a lovely patisserie on Borgo Pio where you can buy all sorts of delicious things for a truly italian calazione.

  • Antonio was great. The flat was very central... within minutes of Vatican City! There are several restaurants and shops near by too! We had everything we needed... Hair dryer, towels, linens, outlets, hot showers... We had the whole flat to ourselves! It was a delight! Antonio was very welcoming even though we showed up late. We had his contact information if we needed anything, but nothing came up. There was no wifi, but there are shops and restaurants nearby that have free wifi :). A great stay at a wonderful flat in Rome! Thank you Antonio!
