Marty and Cheryl were great to work with. The house was lovely, clean and they were very helpful with suggestions on what to do. Our main reason for visiting was to check out the UW Waterloo, and their home is a great location as it is fairly close to campus. We also saw Niagraa …

Marty's place is ideal for a family or couples traveling together. The hosts are a wonderfully warm, open, and helpful couple with a beautiful home. They use their home as essentially a duplex when hosting--they're right there if you need anything (whether it is milk or a friend …

host walks in whenever they please. don’t even knock or even give notice just barge in whoever they want. got woken up in the morning by them and i couldn’t even enjoy myself without talking too loud for them. will never go back this place was too brutal.

Response from Marty:
Sorry autumn had this reaction. The loud voices she references were only at the hot tub after midnight when we asked her group if they could lower their voices because their swearing and loud conversation tends to carry to the neighbours. Again on our web site we ask for quiet after 11 pm. Autumn clearly wanted more of a party house which we could not provide. To say we barged in to a common area I think is a little harsh. We do make it clear about common areas. Autumn is correct in her choice not to return as a party life style does not suit what we have to offer. To her and her groups credit they did clean up the cigarette butts they left on two patios and after being asked to be quiet in the hot tub twice. They were quiet. I could not give them a rating over 3 in any category because they basically were not respectful of house rules likely because they are young and likely because they never read them. I trust they will be fine as guests any where they are on their own with hosts that do not live on site to supervise their property

Response from Marty:
I appreciate Lucy's comments and am so pleased that they enjoyed the kitchen, location and hot tub so much. I had no idea that not having locks on our bedroom doors and else where was even an issue as this has never been mentioned by any one before, but we can definitely look into that. As for Kitchen space of course the cupboards were full with all of the implements left for guests to use including many condiments, spices etc that they are not required to purchase as they can have (Website hidden by Airbnb) why that appears an issue I am not clear. We made a point of leaving much closet space and wardrobe space for Lucy and any guest, but apparently not enough for their needs, so we will reassess that in future. The web site does show that although we rent the house, it is a shared space to a small degree and although we live in the back apartment we as hosts will be hanging coats for example n the front hall and are visible from time to time. We offer much privacy and this works well as a Airbnb model for most people but Lucy and family truly needed what we could not offer. It is important therefore to read websites completely. I can see their confusion over the availability of laundry and as most guests never use laundry this has never been an issue before. So I will put on the web site that laundry although available is actual a common area. Lucy failed to mention that they set our thermostat at 90 degrees and damaged our furnace. Coming from Dubai they likely wished for more heat. The repair cost about $150. But we absorbed that cost. I applaud Lucy cooking and serving food from our kitchen for her family and guests and seemly they had an excellent visit, but likely they should book a location that truly has no common areas, where they can set the thermostat at desert settings and have more room to spread out. Clearly we did not meet all of their needs. Our concept of airbnb is having some limited contact with our guests. It has been a model that has served us well as Super Hosts. We take Lucy's comments seriously and always strive to improve what we can offer our guest, now and in the future.
