We had a lovely stay with Gabriella and her son. Both made us feel very welcome and, when we had a problem with our hire car, really helped us out. The accommodation is basic but perfect for couples needing to stay a couple of nights - a quiet retreat in the Tuscan countryside with gorgeous views.

We stayed at La Badiola for 5 days in August and enjoyed every single minute. It's a quiet little paradise, the house is nice and cosy, perfect for a couple, the garden and the pool are fantastic. We met Gabriella herself only once, but her son and daughter are perfect and friendly hosts. There is not a single little bit, we didn't like. Thank you for wonderful days at La Badiola!

We absolutely loved our stay in such magical surroundings. Gabriella and Gabriel were so nice and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived and so did Milo (one of the three friendly dogs). We were in the smaller cottage, which was plenty big enough for two people and although basic had everything we needed. The peaceful location made a welcome break after the heat and crowds of Florence and was also a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding hilltop towns. Castiglion Fiorentino is a short drive away with good restaurants (you may need to book in advance) in the attractive old town. We enjoyed the pool too. We were sad to leave and would love to come back some day.

We have stayed at the little white villa for 17 days in July/Aug 2015. It was a mixed experience. Let us start with the positives. It is a great location on top of a hill, with many beautiful (olive) trees around you, a beautiful garden and a lovely swimmingpool which is frequently cleaned by Gabriele (both garden and swimming pool are shared with the other rented house). There are great possibilities for hikes in the nearby hills and the 7km to Castiglion Fiorentino is exactly right for being in the quiet rural area as we as well as being close enough to nice cafes/restaurants and supermarkets. Than some of the negatives. - The house is under-equipped: for example, there are only two glasses, no serious knives for cooking are available, the "buttons" of the (gas) stove did not function very well which made you regularly think whether it was still on or actually switched off and there is no curtain in the bath (where you are supposed to take a shower). - Also, we could not state the house was dirty, but definitely not clean either. - Whether this is something that could happen everywhere in Tuscany, we don't know, but we were unhappy to run into a scorpion in our bathroom. - Unfortunately you are advised not to drink the water from the tap as the iron levels are too high. - And although the owners' dogs are really nice, we did not like them peeing in the garden (with our baby playing there). - Finally, a comment on our hosts. Gabriele speaks a little English, however Gabriella does not speak or understand a single word, which makes communication close to impossible. At first they seemed to be really nice, but they turned out to be not so hospitable at all. All in all, not a bad place, far from being a perfect one either. Price-Quality ratio is poor, mixed feelings about the hosts and a under equipped house.

Response from Gabriella:
1) There were four glasses in the house and multiple knives. When you needed better-performing knives we provided them to you immediately. We would have done so with the glasses if you had asked more of them. Stove buttons have been fixed in the meantime, but let us just stress that the little problem you are talking about was cause of no danger at all. Bath curtain: it was a choice, we didn’t think it was crucial and no one has ever complained about it (anyways it’s a small fix that can be done in a day if regarded as absolutely necessary). 2) The statement on cleanliness is so vague that we cannot really answer it. 3) Scorpions are rare, but during a long stay like yours it can happen to find one. For the readers, we are talking of small (few centimetres) *harmless* animals. 4) Not drinking water from tap: that’s the way it is and we prefer being conservative on these issues with guests. Tap water can be used for all other purposes though. 5) Sorry if this happened - we try to keep the dogs on our section of the property, but sometimes they find a way to come say hi to the guests. They are small-medium size and friendly. 6) We quote from our airbnb page “We speak Italian and basic English”. Gabriele speaks enough English for the job and indeed we never had communication problems with any of the guests. Gabriella does not, but she is not involved in first person in the relationship with guests. You say “At first they seemed to be really nice, but they turned out to be not so hospitable at all”. OK, let’s face it. You seemed to like our place very much, to the point of referring to it as “a paradise” and of asking us if two of your relatives could join you here for a couple of days. After our negative answer, you had an explosive and rather inappropriate reaction and cut all communication with us (see also our commentary on your airbnb page). We think this is the one and only reason for your backstabbing in the form of a negative review.

We had the most amazing time in the little white vila. Gabriella and her son gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel right at home! The villa is perfect for relaxing, just what we needed. We would recommend it to everyone! And we would like to go back sometime... I almost forgot: their olive oil is amazing! Thank you

We really enjoyed our stay at Gabriella's Litte White Villa. The location in the mountains is lovely and absolutely quiet, so it is perfect for getting rest and relaxation. The pool was very clean and is in a sheltered and sunny postion so it was perfectly usable even in late September. Gabriella and her son are very friendly and caring hosts and made us feel welcome, not only with a lovely cake and very tasty organic homemade olive oil but also with their kindness. We enjoyed the company of their dogs especially watching the sun rise over the mountains in the early mornings. Thanks for this great Tuscan feeling.

We had a very good time in the little white villa. We we're welcomed by Gabriella & Gabriel in a very warm way. They provided us with a welcome basket with their self-made olive oil, fresh tomatoes, oranges, zucchinis and herbs from their garden and on top a home made cake! The house was ok, basic but you've everything you need. We relaxed in the garden and at the swimming pool with our little girl. And we visited some places in the neighbourhood. Overall we had a fantastic time and couldn't be better treated by Gabriella & Gabriel.

I was born in the north of Lombardy, close to the Swiss border, where I spent my childhood and adolescence. I moved to Milan to study Law and lived there for over twenty years. I moved to Tuscany with my husband and kids in 1993 and since then I managed to invest more time in the activities I love the most: painting, ceramics and decoration. I am part of the Italian BPW (International Federation of Business and Professional Women) and I was myself president of the local division. I love taking care of my three (well-behaved) dogs and my now 17-year-old cat. We, as a family, have been renting two separate annexes of our villa to English, Dutch and American tourists for over ten years. I now take care of this along with my son. We speak Italian and basic English.
