Private forest spa in a century-old cabin
A private cedar sauna, cold plunge, soaking tub, and rainfall shower room built into the cabin.
Designed for a total reset
Guests describe an instant sense of calm, with the design, heated floors, and forest views drawing them in.
Nordic soul meets Japanese ritual in a 100-year-old hunting shack, reborn.
Cedar sauna, cold plunge, shower room, soaking tub and full, integrated living areas from a cohesive private retreat.
Set on 55 secluded acres in South Range, Wisconsin—20 minutes from Duluth and 1.5 miles from the sandy shores of Lake Superior.
More than accommodation, Sentō offers unhurried space for restoration: heat, cold, immersion, repeat. A deliberate pause. Private ritual. Zero time limits. Zero strangers.
The space
For over a century, a humble (and very charming) hunting shack sat on this land. As soon as we laid eyes on it, we couldn't *not* see the potential.
That little shack had no idea of its next chapter:
Sentō, private forest spa.
In Japan, a sentō (銭湯) refers to a traditional public bathhouse - a shared space where people have gathered for centuries to soak, sweat, and find relaxation and quiet connection through the simple ritual of bathing. Here, we've reimagined that ancient tradition as something intimate and exclusive: your own secluded sentō, where the forest replaces the neighborhood and the only company is the trees, the steam, and your loved ones.
We poured a massive heated foundation, gently lifted the original structure atop it and wove in a sleek, modern addition with capacity to hold luxuries.
The historic hunting shack now houses:
• A cedar sauna with an IKI stove
• A state-of-the-art ColdLife cold plunge
• An expansive 2-person shower room
• A serene relaxation lounge to let it all sink in
Step through to the addition, and you enter full-on luxury:
• King bed in a tranquil bedroom
• Bathroom with a deep soaking tub
• Fully equipped gourmet kitchen
• Open dining and living space
• Convenient laundry room
Surrounded by gorgeous acreage, Sentō was designed with one obsession: to dissolve the boundary between indoors and the wild outdoors. Wake up enveloped by trees, sip coffee as sunlight filters through, then slip into your personal, private spa. And repeat.
Sölveig Sentō is more than a place to sleep. It's a landing pad for total rejuvenation in, what we think, is the most optimal place for it: the forest.
You're not just booking a stay. You're placing a full reset in one of the most serene corners of nature on your calendar.
Are the dates you're looking for already booked? Please check out our sister property just one mile down the road: Sölveig Stay!
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire building as well as trails throughout the woods. Boat access to the Amnicon River is 1 mile away and access to a public beach on Lake Superior is 1.5 miles away.
Our beach down the road is truly stunning, please don't miss it!
Other things to note
*If you plan on bringing your furry friend, please pay the pet fee before your arrival or leave your dog at home. We only allow ONE dog to come per stay. Absolutely NO dogs allowed on any of the furniture (bed included) and make sure you pick up around the yard after it.
*Being in the country means that we have our own well for water! The water is tested annually by the county and is totally safe and healthy to drink but does at times have a strong sulfur smell. We have a filtration system on to help remove the odor but some days it is worse than others. Running the warm water for a bit may help remove smell.
Included:

-Shampoo/conditioner/body wash
Kitchen:

-Oven
-Full refrigerator/freezer
