The Studio is surrounded by classic farm buildings, meadows, ponds, a brook, stone walls, nine flower and vegetable gardens, and a 1/5th size garden railroad. The grounds are linked to a 30 mile network of hiking and nordic skiing trails, through the adjacent 20,000 acre Camel’s Hump State Park. We're just 30 minutes from downtown Burlington and near Alpine skiing. The Studio is warm and cozy with a fully equipped kitchen, great for couples, solo adventurers and dogs are welcome. Covid Safe!

The space
The 600 sq. foot Studio contains a bedroom with a queen size bed, a spacious living area that combines a fully equipped kitchen, dinning and sitting area with a Roku TV and its own wi-fi that is surprisingly fast for a rural location. The interior is highly finished with well crafted trim details, wainscoting and light earth tone colors. There are two heaters, one in the living room for ambiance/heat and a second in the bedroom. It is near the Farm house, amongst lawns, gardens, a small pond with a stunning view of Vermont's high peaks.

Other things to note
Covid.

We are very careful about insuring that you are safe from any chance of Covid infection while here at the Farm. To do this we follow very closely AirBnB guide and State of Vermont guidelines, both of which are very clear and helpful.

We have learned that during this crisis that many people are traveling to Vermont, seeking the State and Windekind as a kind of sanctuary for protection and relief from the stress and danger of the Virus. We are happy that we can be helpful to others by offering temporary protection in this crisis and take our responsibilities for your safety and protection very seriously.

Windekind is unique because of its location high in the Green Mountains at the end of a three mile county road where the Virus is not likely to take hold. Still we are vigilant every day and we ask you to be too.

Marijke and I met in Brazil in 1968.  Marijke was a member of the Dutch Peace Corp, and I, a member of the American. I built roads through the jungle with my Brazilian colleagues, and Marijke organized schools working with a group of young teachers.  It was a very happy time for us together in Brazil and we decided to marry, a marriage that is now 51 years old that gets better every day.  Marijke and I are both educated in the classical tradition of the liberal arts, and this has impacted on our love of the arts and nature and aided us in forming a long standing commitment to progressive social and environmental values.  Marijke has a master degree from the University of Vermont in Counseling while I have a master’s degree from the University of Vermont in Educational Philosophy and a doctorate from Boston University, in human and cognitive development.   We are lifelong learners with broad and deep fields of interest in topics that range from the sublime and artsy to the everyday and concrete. Our academic adventures in philosophy and psychology weave into the practice of crafts at Windekind and elsewhere. We have acquired and developed skills and experience in gardening, cooking, landscaping, permaculture design, wood working, black smithing, home decorating, masonry, stone work, and fine model building.  Marijke worked as a counselor in several public elementary schools concluding her career in Huntington where she implemented a very effective family outreach program.  I taught a human development and learning theory course at the University of Vermont for eighteen years and later founded a magazine on historic railway preservation called Locomotive and Railway Preservation.  The magazine built a circulation of 16,000 readers and was later sold to a larger publisher.  A majority of our work and learning experience has been derived from Windekind where Marijke and I have run the lodging and wedding business since 2000. In many respects the last 14 years have been culminating for us as we integrate our hospitality with our social values pertaining to creating community. At Windekind, seemingly, we have had a monopoly on all the good people in the world who come to the farm.   We view our past as abundant and rich. Yet we believe that the best days are ahead given our maturity and life experience and the large number of deep friendships that grace our lives. By nature, we are optimists, who believe, in spite sometimes overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that the world gets better and better, and we are and have a responsibility to be part of that.

During your stay
Guest have been coming to Windekind, and staying in the Studio for over 20 years, many great and lasting friendships have developed over that time with only a couple of experiences that we would call negative with a remarkable percentage, 99%, very positive. We enjoy and highly value having guests because it is an opportunity for us to share something we love-the Farm and these mountains. We want to be available and helpful , while being mindful of your privacy and your time together as friends, families and couples. We love Vermont, so we enjoy sharing what we know about the State and its many resources and areas of interest. (read our reviews)
