About this listing
We are happy to share our home with visitors who seek tranquility and a warm, family atmosphere. The cozy full sized bed is on the 3rd floor. Tree House room sleeps 2 with garden views. Bathroom located on 2nd floor. Meditation room across the hall
We purchased this beautiful antique home in 2012 as a family home. It had previously been run as a B&B and we now feel inclined to share this beautiful home with others. Magnificent gardens surround the house and stone pathways meander throughout the garden. Our music room/library is a cozy place to hang out and our guests are welcome to join us in the living areas.
Deana cooks a nutritious homemade breakfast from the bounty of our local organic and biodynamic farm.
We are a short walk to a stunning waterfall and hiking and skiing trails abound. Our guests enjoy nearby tennis, swimming, berry picking downhill skiing, theater, galleries and restaurants.
Guests are also welcome to join our family for dinner (previous reservation is appreciated.) We enjoy engaging in lively conversation over good food and glass of wine and frequently host friends and family. Our guests are always welcome to join.
There is wifi throughout the house , but we don't own a television.
The Tree House Room has a full sized bed. A futon can be placed on the floor for an extra guest ($15 surcharge.)
There are two bathrooms located one flight down from this third floor room.
Washer and dryer
Kitchen use and or meals with the family can be arranged
Interaction with Guests
Deana, Bruce or Isabel will often join guests at breakfast and enjoy sharing stories with those who are so inclined but are always respectful of your privacy.
Wilton is a friendly, old-fashioned rural New England community. It has an active yoga studio, great library and art supply store and a handful of lovely shops. Home to the famous Wilton Town Hall Theater, (the popcorn has real butter) there is always a wonderful film playing.
Public transportation is not an option in our rustic area. Folks love to bring their bikes, kayaks and paddle boards. There are numerous trails and places to enjoy nature. The roads and driveways are well plowed in winter!
Deana was patient and friendly on line as I struggled to sort out my calendar and head around an escape from some work to be done in our home. We were made welcome, the surroundings were gorgeous (historical rural home, beautiful gardens, pathways), and our room was comfortable and clean. We slept very well on the full-size bed (we are medium-size people; larger people might feel constrained). It was a delight to have healthy food from an excellent cook (we chose to have supper with them two nights). We had some interesting conversations, including with their delightful younger daughter of high school age. The year-old puppy (Aug/Sept 2015) is charming, if a bit rambunctious. We enjoyed wandering through some old cemeteries and hiking to a beautiful waterfall while we were there.
Deana's tree house was a lovely experience. It was quiet, peaceful, welcoming, and restful. Her family and dog Cosmo made it a great stay for my 2 nights there. They invited me to join their dinner party the first night I was there and I had a great time! The place was clean and as described. The bed was comfy and I had privacy - had to get used to a couple of moths on the ceiling keeping me company at night, but they were harmless. I took walks around the neighborhood, read in the garden and their open kitchen, and chatted with Deana and her family. I also enjoyed the breakfast Deana prepared each morning.
If I could sum up our experience at Deana's home in Wilton, NH it would be "zen." My fiancé and I had a lovely, restful time! The Tree-House room we stayed in was cozy and suited our needs perfectly; I especially loved the Meditation Room across the hall. Other highlights include: their adorable dog Cosmo greeting us with happy barks upon our arrival, a scrumptious breakfast of french toast with bacon and eggs, spicy chai tea with home-made spices, and the gorgeous gardens surrounding the property that gave me a real sense of peace and well-being. We would love to visit again and I highly recommend others to as well :)
Always a pleasure to stay with the Darby's. They have a comfortable, clean and homey feel to the place. It is truly a restful retreat!
We feel very fortunate to be guests with Deana. Serine is the word that comes to mind. There home is warm and comfortable. Deana serves a wonderful breakfast and her ingredients are very high quality.
All was wonderful, and as described.
Out of the way and quiet . .
I wanted quaint and got it . ..
Food was as I had expected - (I ate every night with the family) - more nutritious than the average US fare - though not what the average person may be used to. All was perfect - except for the tragedy of their much loved dog dying . .
Lovely stay from the madding crowd, thank you
The Darby's are the best. Don't miss the breakfast. Deana is tied in to the local organic community and she serves it wonderfully at breakfast.

About the Host, Deana
We moved to Wilton, NH from Napa, CA four years ago and bought an antique house that used to be a b&b. My husband Bruce is a teacher at Pine Hill Waldorf School and this wonderful school is what drew us across the country with our two teenaged daughters. My work centers around healing, specializing in end of life transitions with a practice in both Shiatsu Massage and Midwifery to the Dying. This can mean, sometimes unexpected changes in my availability as a full time hostess (if I am called to a bedside, you may have to cook your own breakfast, but wonderful ingredients will be laid out for you.). We have two daughters 20 and 17. We love being outdoors, cooking, gardening and music and are actively involved in our local community. Both Bruce and I have traveled extensively and our children seem to be following in our footsteps. Our eldest daughter is abroad this year studying in Nepal, India and Bhutan. Our younger daughter, in her junior year of high school, is already planning a gap year doing service abroad. At the moment she is considering Brazil and India as her choice destinations. Our home is a vital family environment with lots of enriching activity and we love to share it with others.
