House rules

This romantic hut is Ideal for someone traveling alone, or
at a squeeze
a couple.
Its point of difference?
It is so very close to the stream and so private
It has a wood burning stove .
There is a bath in the guests private bathroom along a track from the hut to the main house with a shower and private toilet and handbasin in as well as access to an electric kettle and fridge . This hut has many walks starting outside the door !

The space
There is a kiwi hot tub wood heating up to 41 degrees! down by the river.
This is a big tub 800 litres of fresh river
water to be heated .for each booking ..so it incurs an extra fee of $75
..but
you have a big bath in your private bathroom back at the house and this is really the better option in the winter.
Guests can see the fire from their bed and also can see the river from bed if the door is open! The bed is a double and mattress is firm, some might say hard! Hut amenities include the little covered shuttered balcony, regenerating bush views glassware, cooking and eating utensils. Non 4 wheel drive vehicles park 50 metres from hut. No electricity - candles only .There is a private bathroom and inside bathroom and bath for this hut back at the house 100 yards away.
... guests chuckle when they see it, because the bathroom for the Hut by the River is bigger than the hut itself which is tiny and perfect for one
But as we said ..a squeeze for two !
You need to be happy to maintain your own fire to heat the hut and for water for hot drinks...in warm weatheryou can a thermos back at the house next to your bathroom there there is also bottled drinking water for you and
coffee sachets
so you can have a hot drink without making a fire early in the morning.

Guest access
Tree Crop Farm in Akaroa on the Grehan Valley stream, have a 20 year reputation for their picturesque arcadian setting and the wood fires, candles, flowers, late sleep-ins, hot baths outside under the stars and the dawn chorus from who knows how many thousands of birds at day break. Tree Crop Farm is a 20-hectare hillside lifestyle block crisscrossed with walk tracks leading to many more up and over the mountains behind Akaroa . Guests appreciate the flexibility with the possibility of late checkouts .. The garden is no longer open to the public every day and the café ceased when retired journalist owner Lynnie Alexander stopped farming the 50-acre block and wanted to concentrate on breeding hens s for eggs and meat . This is good news for the overnight guests as the property is more private now and the crowing of the essential rooster can be heard more easily!!!!!!!

Other things to note
The Akaroa waterfront and restaurant scene can be reached in 2 minutes by car or 25 minutes walking down the road or a little longer cross country.
When you drive into Akaroa turn left just past the police station. The name of the road is Rue Grehan , go up this road the tar seal will run out and turn to a gravel road. Look for tree crop farm sign on your left and there should a black board with your name on it.

Walk-track Mecca
Akaroa has become famous for its variety of walks …easy to hard. !There are a number of walk tracks starting and finishing at the door to your retreat at Tree Crop Farm. One of the most popular tracks is the Woodills Track that goes north or south to the village cross country and the new Curry Reserve Track that traces the headwaters of the Grehan Valley Steam to the site of the Antarctic explorer Frank Worsley’s first childhood home. The information centre in Akaroa has photocopies of all walk tracks in the area for a small fee.
