The Space

Our home has the traditional architectural style of a moroccan Riad. We have several riads situated in a area of private riads which all have their own unique style and design. They have 3 floors and all rooms open into the central area. Like all riads, the roof, which in this case is covered by a see through glass, fills all the floors with sunlight. Each room has its own traditional moroccan style double doors using an iron bolt.

Guest Access

There is a communal moroccan seating area where you can chill, smoke shisha and have breakfast. Guests also have access to a sunfilled terrace with a barbecue, where you can smoke, hang out, have a cooking lesson, grill sausages or dry your washing! Within the private area there are 3 communal swimming pools which can be accessed between 9-6/7pm during the period of march - october. The actual area of private riads is like a small oasis from the heat and the crazyness of the medina. You are surrounded by trees, flowers and birds in a small area which is perfect for a stroll or jog. There is also small shops, cafes and a pharmacy.

Interaction with Guests

We enjoy having guests come to stay with us. We want to share with you experiences from the moroccan community and help make your stay of wonderful memories.
I also give free salsa classes to my guests at 'The Hemingway Rooms'. A great bar for music, cocktails, food and atmosphere.

Instead of just visitng the touristic medina we can take you close by to where normal moroccan life continues. You can see and experience typical moroccan culture. one of the most traditional and ongoing moroccan cultural experiences is to visit the local hammam. To reach the hammam you will walk through a everyday market where locals buy their fruit and veg, clothes and other things. You will see the local street food places including fish, barbecues, soups, different teas, bakeries and more.
You can learn how to cook moroccan food including shopping in the local market then share the meal moroccan style with other guests and us.
If your interested in taking a trip, I can arrange the usual trips to the desert, atlas mountains and essaouira but for those interested I can arrange a trip to a local village outside marrakech to visit a family and experience some real culture for a few days.

I can teach you how to prepare and smoke shisha - which is an art in it self! Also help with haggling for bargains or walking through the medina to the local tourist sights of interest.

The Neighborhood

We are situated in a typical moroccan but 'private' area for families that is only accessable to guests and residents of the area. This allows a feeling of comfort knowing that you can walk freely around enjoying the area without being approached or hassled by sellers. Instead you get to experience the moroccan daily life passing you by but still have that interaction with other tourists. The riads are actually a haven for relaxation and chilling after walking around and experiencing the hustle and bustle of the marrakech souks and medina.

The riad are situated 5 minutes from the bab Khemis market which happens every Thursday and Sunday and is famous for getting bargains and a few people have even bought a few antiques!

You are within walking distance of all the touristic sights including Jardin Marjorelle, The Tanneries, maison de photography, La Koutoubia, Jemma Fna Square, School of Ben Youseff, Bab Khemis Market, Bahia Palace, The Tombs of the Saidens. You are also within a 5 minute taxi ride to the beautiful palmaraie area where you can go quad biking, camel riding. visit the museum of marrakech or go and play golf! Also in this area you will find some great evening entertainment with a brazillian restaurant, a shisha lounge and a spanish tapas bar all of which have live music.

Getting Around

The best way to discover Marrakech is to go out and get lost in the maze of streets, sights of interest, shops, cafes and markets.

You ARE situated in the old medina but not in the 'Jemma Fna Square' which many people associate with just being 'the old medina'. The medina actually covers a very wide area that includes the area here where the riad is situated. Literally just across the road from the private riad complex is the old wall with the big arched doorways that contained original Marrakech and hidden within are the winding streets and alleys containing interesting souks, shops, touristic places of interest, bars, restaurants and more which can mainly be reached by walking but you can take a taxi or even a bus to some place. There are also horse and carriages in Marrakech which is a lovely way to see the city both old and new.

We can help with tours to the desert, Essaouira and the cascades, plus trekking as we deal with a good company who keeps his prices real.
We have all the information for transport within the city.
We can also help you hire a car or scooter for travel around marrakech and morocco

Other Things to Note

We have several riads so sometimes when we are busy you may stay in one of our other riads next to us. You will still have access to our home and we are available for you at all times.

There is no access to the kitchen for guests for cooking in the riad that we live unless previously discussed. However if you are placed in one of our other riads, next to ours you are free to use the kitchen If you want to put things in the fridge we have no problem for that!

All bedrooms have their own private bathroom with a shower providing hot water using an immersion heater. In the summer though it will luke warm as the weather is too hot!!! We provide towels and bedding. We are happy to change these during the week if your staying for more than 5 days but please if you need clean ones before then let us know!

There is WIFI within the Riad which can be used throughout even on the terrace!

Air conditioning is available on request but we do charge a fee of 5 euros per session to cover the electricity bill and we ask that you do not leave it on when your not in your room.

We do have a small sausage dog called Coco (a mini teckel) who we rescued from a shelter. Also recently rescued is cute little honey who is still a puppy. Coco is very used to guests and is a very chilled dog (who sometimes barks of course). Honey however is still very cautious about people and new things, however she loves coco so they make an amusing pair!!

For tours - We make sure we only use companies that provide our guests with enjoyable trips. We can arrange with you when you arrive. Please note - as this is morocco though and is not inline with european/america customer service training there may be some parts of the trip that do not reach your expectations. We welcome feedback and ensure we deal with any issues you may have.

Please note the pool is heated only from the sun! In the summer this is of course excellent as you have a nice cool pool during the morning and a warm pool during the afternoon. However in the winter months (November- March) the pool is not suitable for swimming and during this period the pool may be emptied in order to be cleaned for the next season. However the sun is always shining in Marrakech and so you can still relax and chill by the pool as it is surrounded by beautiful gardens and is very quiet and relaxing. The pool is generally open from 9am until 6/7pm everyday from around late March/ early April. However this is subject to change depending on what is happening in Morocco! As we say here 'this is morocco (T.I.M) anything can happen!' Please contact us at the time of booking to confirm the status of the pool. Please noteThe pool is not open on a friday in respect of friday prayer.

Air conditioning is available on request but we do charge a fee of 5 euros per session to cover the electricity bill and we ask that you do not leave it on when your not in your room.

Smoking is not permitted within the riad anywhere except outside or on the terrace.
