Stay in the village and meet locals.

All windows fully screened. Free WIFI ( Sept 2017) and a nicely equipped kitchen.

We can meet you at the beach if you arrive by boat from Sierpe. You can also fly in to the nearby Drake Airport on either Sansa Airlines or Nature Air Airlines. In the rainy season it is very difficult, if not impossible, to drive to Drake because of steep mountain roads and a river to ford. From late December to late August driving to Drake is possible, a 4X4 is best. The last gas station is at Chacarita, where you turn off the Interamerican Highway. It is best if you call ahead for road conditions. Secure off street parking is available. We'll get you settled and we will explain the layout of the town and options for local tours etc. We are always in the next house in case you need something or for an emergency.

Bahia Drake is a small village. No Starbucks, no traffic, and no worries.

Drake Bay is on the national power grid and electricity is reliable but occasionally there is a power outage. If you use a c-pap machine or another medical devise that requires electricity it would be advisable to carry a backup battery unit. This would be good advice for traveling anywhere in Central America.

There are no banks or ATMs, so plan accordingly!!

There are 12 small restaurants and 2 small super markets within walking distance. Offering typical Costa Rican fare, seafood, pizza, chicken, etc.

Walk or take a 4x4 taxi if necessary. Rides are $6-10 to anywhere nearby.

We recommend booking any tours directly with Debra and she will arrange to have Alex to be at your disposal for all your wants and needs with tours and any comfort you require. Tours booked through us are same price as everyone and all tours are run by locals. We can usually get you on tours when none are available.
Help support the local economy of Drake Bay.

Directions from the Drake Airport is that you tell the taxi driver who is always there to pick up guests, Casa Tomas frente Cabinas Murillo. it is the house made of wood (casa madera con porticos verdes) with green gates. You go up the concrete stairs and call out Hola! and Hank or Alex will be there to greet you.

If you arrive by the beach, you walk up the hill that goes to the left and it is the 4th and 5th house on the left. My home is the big wooden one with green metal gates, which Hank Alex or I will be there. You can get someone to transport your bags up the hill if need be.

We just spent a glorious 5 days at the Binya house in Drake Bay. I was a bit hesitant visiting this remote place with kids. It was just marvelous for the entire family from the time we landed via the boat taxi. Lovely and clean home, Mini-supermarkets around the corner, good restaurants all around, beach within 5 minutes, awesome views from the back patio where we had home made food with local ingredients and the constant music of waves. If that was not enough, Alex and Hank made our stay even more awesome by assisting us with the corcavado tour, snorkeling with Eric and night bug tour with Tracie. To top it all, they also helped us make a most delicious fish ceviche (yummm!). All in all, a memorable visit to Drake Bay and Costa Rica. Debra - Thank you for sharing your home and thanks to your crew - Alex and Hank.

Response from Debra:
It was such a pleasure to host Asha and family. She was the first person to think to ask us if we needed anything from the US. Since things are hard to get in the jungle, I took her up on her offer to bring us a few new towels and some swim fins for Erick. We were so happy and excited to host these amazing people. They also were interested in meeting the locals and having as authentic an experience in Costa Rica as possible. I truely loved these guests and they will be welcomed anytime.

Staying at the binya house in Bahia drake was as perfect an airbnb experience as we could have hoped for. Leading up to our visit, Debra was in constant communication with us asking what we wanted to do during our visit. She gave perfect directions to the house, was flexible with our check-in time, and was genuinely interested in making our trip an amazing experience. Upon our arrival in Bahia drake, Debra had already called ahead of time to schedule transportation from the airport to the binya house. When we arrived, our host greeted us and immediately got on his phone to schedule snorkeling tours to cano island, Corcovado tours, and a night expedition with Tracy the bug lady. He gave us perfect directions for each of the events, and basically removed any planning stress that we might have had. The house itself was perfectly clean, well furnished, and we appreciated the 5 gallon jug of water that kept us well hydrated in the heat and humidity. The most important feature, was the air conditioning. Walking around outside in 95% humidity and hot temperatures got the best of us from time to time, and it was a relief coming back to a cool, dry house. The view from the back porch is absolutely breathtaking, and I wish I was back there now. I would absolutely recommend Debra's house to anybody staying in Bahia drake.

We loved the location of this place. We could walk to anything and everything we needed. The tour place Hank and Alex suggested was just across the street. Alex was super helpful and nice giving us all the details about the area we needed for our stay. We liked that it was located close to the center of town but we could easily get to other parts of the bay that where more secluded and easy access to the boats that take you out. There was not internet access at the time but we where okay with that because we where on vacation. But if you are needing to work remotely or if that may be an issue you may want to check to see if it's back up before booking. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again.

Thank you for the nice review. We are trying hard to get the Internet up and running. Most people, like you end up appreciating disconnecting for awhile and getting back to a less stressful way of life.

We had a really wonderful stay in Bahai Drake! This is a perfect place to stay, a 2 or 3 minute walk to the beach, to restaurants, to the grocery store. Beautiful beach and bay view, magical at sunset, parrots and iguanas in the trees, simply wonderful. We would recommend taking the boat taxi here, the trip is really fun, and you don't need a car when in Drake's Bay! Note for guests from the developed world: as the listing describes, this is a wonderful home in Costa Rica, with fantastic location, great vibe, beautiful views, etc. I give it an unqualified review for anyone wanting to experience a true Drake's Bay experience. I read a couple of reviews with negative things to say about this home, and I am guessing from these reviewers were wanting to stay in a USA-style chain hotel. If you are looking for the Doubletree or the Comfort inn, this is not it. If you want a great base to go to Corcovado, this IS it.

Photos are very accurate, but don't do justice to the mood provided by the sound of the waves. Comfortable furniture, inside and out, good shower, drinking water provided. Air conditioning worked very well, and was essential to our comfort. It was a perfect base place for us to do guided morning tours to Corcovado. The short walk from the boat taxi landing area was doable even in the heat with Alex's help. We are glad we chose this place to stay.

We loved location in heart of Drake Bay with easy walking to tour pickups, beaches, restaurants and grocery stores. Home was well equipped for family of four to prepare meals and enjoy the amazing views from shaded dining table on back porch. Caretaker Alex was great - checked in a couple times and made sure we knew he was always availabe. Pacheco tours a few buildings down is highly recommended- tell Erick you want to tour Corcovado with his dad and snorkel Cano with Danny. Gringo Curts and Claudios are must try dinners a few minutes walk away.
