We just spent a glorious 5 days at the Binya house in Drake Bay. I was a bit hesitant visiting this remote place with kids. It was just marvelous for the entire family from the time we landed via the boat taxi. Lovely and clean home, Mini-supermarkets around the corner, good restaurants all around, beach within 5 minutes, awesome views from the back patio where we had home made food with local ingredients and the constant music of waves. If that was not enough, Alex and Hank made our stay even more awesome by assisting us with the corcavado tour, snorkeling with Eric and night bug tour with Tracie. To top it all, they also helped us make a most delicious fish ceviche (yummm!). All in all, a memorable visit to Drake Bay and Costa Rica. Debra - Thank you for sharing your home and thanks to your crew - Alex and Hank.

Response from Debra:
It was such a pleasure to host Asha and family. She was the first person to think to ask us if we needed anything from the US. Since things are hard to get in the jungle, I took her up on her offer to bring us a few new towels and some swim fins for Erick. We were so happy and excited to host these amazing people. They also were interested in meeting the locals and having as authentic an experience in Costa Rica as possible. I truely loved these guests and they will be welcomed anytime.

Staying at the binya house in Bahia drake was as perfect an airbnb experience as we could have hoped for. Leading up to our visit, Debra was in constant communication with us asking what we wanted to do during our visit. She gave perfect directions to the house, was flexible with our check-in time, and was genuinely interested in making our trip an amazing experience. Upon our arrival in Bahia drake, Debra had already called ahead of time to schedule transportation from the airport to the binya house. When we arrived, our host greeted us and immediately got on his phone to schedule snorkeling tours to cano island, Corcovado tours, and a night expedition with Tracy the bug lady. He gave us perfect directions for each of the events, and basically removed any planning stress that we might have had. The house itself was perfectly clean, well furnished, and we appreciated the 5 gallon jug of water that kept us well hydrated in the heat and humidity. The most important feature, was the air conditioning. Walking around outside in 95% humidity and hot temperatures got the best of us from time to time, and it was a relief coming back to a cool, dry house. The view from the back porch is absolutely breathtaking, and I wish I was back there now. I would absolutely recommend Debra's house to anybody staying in Bahia drake.

The house is exactly as described. Clean, central and with the added benefit of a local to help you book tours and guide you on things to do. The prices everyone charges for tours is the same. The prices are displayed outside all the tour operators so you know what to expect. You can get more luxurious accommodation but you will pay a lot more. We had a great adventure here and would not hesitate to recommend to other adventure seekers. The back porch area has to be one of the best places to have a cold beer watching the sun set over the bay listening to the waves crash on to the beach and waiting for to evening chorus of insects and frogs to start.

Debra's place is in a great location. The back patio has a beautiful view of the bay, and we often had iguanas and birds visit. The accommodations were simple, but pleasant. The A/C is a lifesaver in this environment. The heated shower is a nice touch having been to many places in Costa Rica with only cold water or unreliable water heating. Drake is basically in the jungle, so you may see some uninvited guests... this is probably unavoidable, and it didn't appear that any of the other places in Drake would have been different in this regard.

Response from Debra:
Ray was given detailed information on how to find our house, which is the 4th on the left. We try to meet gusts at the beach if we have enough notice, but we make sure each person has the directions should we not be there. Ray reported being very scared of the land crab that went into the kitchen and scuttled around on the floor making a bit of noise in the night. These are not bugs, but animals that live there and are not an indication of cleanliness. Most people enjoy seeing such animals as this is the most biodiverse place on the planet, and the whole point of coming to Drake. The Locals have a special word for people who are afraid of such animals and overreact to them...they call it "Gringo Scared" If you leave the screen door open too long, you are certain to invite more "guests" into the house.

We loved the location of this place. We could walk to anything and everything we needed. The tour place Hank and Alex suggested was just across the street. Alex was super helpful and nice giving us all the details about the area we needed for our stay. We liked that it was located close to the center of town but we could easily get to other parts of the bay that where more secluded and easy access to the boats that take you out. There was not internet access at the time but we where okay with that because we where on vacation. But if you are needing to work remotely or if that may be an issue you may want to check to see if it's back up before booking. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again.

Thank you for the nice review. We are trying hard to get the Internet up and running. Most people, like you end up appreciating disconnecting for awhile and getting back to a less stressful way of life.

We had a really wonderful stay in Bahai Drake! This is a perfect place to stay, a 2 or 3 minute walk to the beach, to restaurants, to the grocery store. Beautiful beach and bay view, magical at sunset, parrots and iguanas in the trees, simply wonderful. We would recommend taking the boat taxi here, the trip is really fun, and you don't need a car when in Drake's Bay! Note for guests from the developed world: as the listing describes, this is a wonderful home in Costa Rica, with fantastic location, great vibe, beautiful views, etc. I give it an unqualified review for anyone wanting to experience a true Drake's Bay experience. I read a couple of reviews with negative things to say about this home, and I am guessing from these reviewers were wanting to stay in a USA-style chain hotel. If you are looking for the Doubletree or the Comfort inn, this is not it. If you want a great base to go to Corcovado, this IS it.

Adventurous, wild and free spirited. Don't even try to keep up. I keep that side balanced in my work as a clinical psychologist.
My current passion, obsession, addiction etc. Is scuba diving in Costa Rica and in California. The absolute contrast in environments is a metaphor for the complexity of duality within where one is capable of unification of opposite forces. Then there is a glass of good wine... Or Nicaraguan rum, a Cuban cigar while watching crocodiles migrate from river to river from the vantage of a comfortable rocker.
