THE APARTMENT
Is a very large apartment with a fireplace, solarium, sofas and amazing views of the whole city (almost 360 views, large windows out of 3 sides). Belongs to a british sociologist who lives in the UK, who has left many of her possessions as she comes back once a year. Plenty of books to browse in several bookshelves around the flat.

LOCATION
The apartment is in the centre of La Paz, 5 minutes away from Plaza Avaroa (centre of the known universe) and El Prado (La Paz's main artery). The beautiful and cultural neighbourhood of Sopocachi has it all at your doorstep: restaurants, cafes, a supermarket (5 minutes walk), cultural centres, cinemas.

FACILITIES
Wi-fi internet, Cable TV, washing machine, fridge freezer, microwave, pans, plates, cutlery, etc - anything you'd need to host a dinner party!

LIVING ROOM
Comes with a fireplace, sofas, dining table and PLENTY of light. Lovely and peaceful place to work, hang out or socialise. It has a PIANO (though we're told it needs to be tuned!) ;-)

(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)
Occupancy varies but the flat tends to house professionals who work as researchers, consultants and journalists (among other things). We aim to create a homely atmosphere and you are more than invited to share in joint meals, gatherings, films, outings. Of course, if you are looking for some peace and quiet, all housemates are active and will be relaxing at home or out and about/travelling, so won't get in your way!

KITCHEN
Stocked with all the plates, pans and utensils you could need to host a dinner party. Also a reasonable number of spices and condiments for more elaborate dishes!

Other things to note

Please be gentle with the lift - it is old and rather slow, but pushing the doors won't help! Just be patient ;-)

Earlier check-in and later check-out are available, though please check at the time of booking (in case other people are leaving the flat

House Rules
Not suitable for pets
Check in time is flexible
Check out by 11AM

Please keep noises to a minimum after 11.00 pm (no dancing, shouting or dragging chairs) as the neighbours downstairs are elderly and are light sleepers!

KEYS:

- The small key is for the glass door before the lifts. This generally open, though if the porters are not around they occasionally keep it shut, especially after 7pm

- There are two keys for the front door of the flat.
- Please make sure to close the door using the bottom lock when entering or exiting the flat (this can be done manually while inside).
- The bottom top round door handle doesn’t need to be locked if there are other people in the flat, though if you are the last person to leave also close this one.
- Please don’t force the locks if you are having trouble opening the door. Try patiently and jiggle the keys gently in the lock, as they should open without much effort. If you get stuck ring the doorbell or phone the other housemates.

- Only the porters have the keys to the front gate of the building. It is open from 7am to midnight. If you need to get in or out between these hours ring the bell by the gate. The on-duty porter may be asleep so please allow up to 2-3 minutes for them to get out of bed. If getting back late at night (especially on your own), phone the porters on ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) a couple of minutes before you arrive, as this can be more effective than the bell at getting them to come out quicker. Also recommended to give them a Bs. 2 to Bs. 5 tip whenever you enter or exit between 12.00pm and 07.00 am, as they have to wake up and open the gates.

- There is a $10 charge for losing the keys (individually or collectively), as the locks need to be reset and new keys need to be cut for all housemates (for safety reasons). Please let Amaru or Wilmer know immediately should this happen.

- Please NEVER leave the keys with the porters or anyone else, as it is a security risk for the rest of the flat.

MAIN LIVING AREA
You are welcome to sit around, hang out and use the sofas, TV, tables (if they are not being used by another person), though please be mindful of other people’s possessions and try to leave every area the way you found it.

Please keep noise to a minimum after 10pm. Especially in the area by the main table, avoid dragging chairs and objects as the downstairs neighbours have complained about this several times in the past.

Sugar, salt, washing up liquid, and common essentials etc are bought communally, so if they run out feel free to buy or ask the other housemates to chip in.

The kitchen is equipped with utensils, pans, bowls, cups etc etc- feel free to use anything.

The other housemates leave their things in the fridge and other cupboards, though please ask them first if you need a small bit of milk, etc.

Please clean up after yourself and don’t leave unwashed dishes/plates overnight, as other (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) might want to use them. Wilmer comes in once a week and performs basic maintenance tasks in common areas, though it is not his responsibility to clear up after other people (while he occasionally does, this is NOT his job!)

LIFT
Please be gentle with the lift - it is old and rather slow, but please just be patient ;-) If the lift gets stuck (has been known to happen though don’t panic!), first use one of the emergency bells. The doors can be usually be pushed open, though if you have a phone on you it is best to phone the porters.

GUESTS
Extra guests can stay in the room for Bs 50 per night. Please let other housemates know beforehand (so they are not surprised to see someone else walking around the flat!), and leave the sum in an envelope (in $ or Bs.) before you leave.

You are welcome to have people round for meals and hanging out, though please bear in mind that you are responsible for their actions while they are in the flat.

This place was great for a long term stay. I really enjoyed the people and house. The wifi is a bit slow, but that is standard for Bolivia.

Amaru's apartment is perfect! If you get an opportunity to live here, consider yourself extremely privileged. The warm shower, the wide depth and range of books in the living room (I read one book a day!), fully stocked kitchen and the spectacular views are just some of the things that makes one's La Paz experience special. For me, the stand-out factor of this apartment were the people: my (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) were so intelligent, warm and we had the most riveting dinner discussions ever. I came into this apartment with high expectations; it gave me the "warm-fuzzy" feeling of - how a home feels in a new country. Thank you!

The views of the city and mountains from the kitchen are beautiful - easily my favorite part of staying in this apartment. I have enjoyed having breakfast and watching the city wake up each morning. The location in Sopocachi is ideal, as it is close to El Prado and there are many transportation options to go to other parts of the city. The apartment is comfortable and spacious. It is a great place for a longer term stay because you have a great kitchen and laundry in the apartment. In addition, there is a small community of people who currently live at the apartment and/or have lived in the apartment in the past. Everyone is welcoming, friendly, and helpful.

Amaru was a good communicator. The room was big and had the private bathroom. The location was convenient as well. Unfortunately I had to cut my stay short due to altitude issues, but everything was pretty much as advertised.

Hard to find a place with a better view in all of La Paz. We absolutely loved our time in the apartment and extended our stay. It is in a perfect location and I would highly recommend for exploring La Paz!

The place and the host are great! The description you read is accurate and —even though I haven't seen Amaru very often— he made sure there’s always someone to help me and answer my questions. The communication was fast. I was living in Amaru’s apartment for 5 weeks (business trip). I was looking for a place with good internet connection (knowing that in La Paz is very difficult to find). I worked from the apartment without problems (c.f. virtual calls, sending big files) and I was super happy to be in a nice and central neighbourhood. Walking distance from almost everything, from restaurants to main touristic venues. When I arrived the first day, I was 1h late due to the traffic jam, but Amaru made sure someone waits for me until I get to the apartment... and, I specially appreciate the sushi party we had with my others roommates and Amaru's friends :)
