This is a great neighborhood. Green and lush and full of friendly people! It's close to the shore, close to places like the Waiopae Tide Pools, Isaac Hale State Park, which has some of the best surfing on this island, Champagne Pond and thermal pond at Ahalanui. It's a short drive to Pahoa (10 mins) and about 25 minutes to Hilo.
The Hele On Bus runs down nearby Kahakai Blvd and is connected to a network of buses around the island.

We had a great stay at Amanda's! Not only was the house fantastic, but the information and recommendations she left ensured we spent our days seeing the best parts if the island. It couldn't have been better, and we'd recommend this place to anyone visiting!
Amanda's house is very comfortable and decorated very prettily. The neighborhood is "local"; that is: there are dogs, chickens, coqui frogs and a few roosters near the house. We wore earplugs (which I always do anyway) when we slept, and it was NO problem for either of us. It is a short walk to the shoreline and we really enjoyed walking down there to watch the waves. There are a couple of small but nice parks on the shore, not for swimming but for enjoying the breeze and the views.
There was lots of stuff like different shampoos, soaps, and personal touches that made it feel like we were staying at a friend's house.
I felt very much at home in the house, and Amanda is a sweetheart. I recommend this place!
My stay at Amanda's home was truly a joy. Everything that we needed was there, from kitchen wear to snorkeling gear and washer dryer, we were set! The neighbors were extremely friendly one being from my hometown in Alaska! The scenic drive to the hot ponds was awesome too, probably my favorite road on the whole island, which is right next to the house. Being so close to the ocean cliffs was quiet enjoyable too. The house was obviously well taken care of and Amanda made herself available at all times for any questions that we might have had. The house was a nice get away, far from the city but close to little Pahoa. I really appreciated how much care Amanda put into making sure that we were comfortable. If there were anything that I could add as constructive criticism I would say give the house a good dusting because of the pet hair which some might be allergic to. I highly recommend Amanda's home for your home away. You will definitely be taken care of and treated just like family.
