About this listing
Located on the "best street in Bend," (just a ten minute walk to downtown), our craftsman-style cottage offers bright hues, the warmth of a woodfire stove, an open layout with a cozy loft, high ceilings, a full kitchen, and plenty of natural light.
This lovely Westside home offers loads of natural light with a very clean, open-air layout. Enjoy a spacious kitchen and living room (with wood burning stove!), side porch, upstairs bedroom with balcony, a smaller downstairs bedroom with loft, two full bathrooms, garage, and zero-scape yard. WiFi, as well as a washer and dryer.
A perfect space for 2-5 people, our 12-year-old, 1200 square foot home is within walking distance to Newport Market, Sunnyside Sports, Backporch Coffee Roasters, Nancy P's Bakery, Spork, Cuppa Yo, Chow, Kebaba, and Kampai. Downtown proper, which includes Deschutes Brewery, Lone Pine Coffee Roasters, and Barrio (Spanish tapas bar), among dozens of other establishments, is just a ten minute walk. Pretty much everything is within 5-15 minutes of our doorstep, with trails (Shevlin and Phil's trailhead) only 15 minutes by bike, and 1st Street Rapids two minutes by bike. Skiing at Mt. Bachelor is a short 35-minute drive up Cascade Lakes Highway.
Expect peace, quiet, and relaxation while enjoying breakfast among the flowers and greenery of our front yard, or an evening meal around the fire pit. As well, alley access with parking out back is safe and secure.
Guests will have access to the garage (for storing bikes, kayaks, skis, etc.), upstairs bedroom and bathroom, downstairs bedroom and bathroom, loft, the kitchen and living room, as well as the outside patio and garden. Basically everything except the tiny wooden shed!
Interaction with Guests
If you are renting the entire home, we will not be here! So you will be interacting with us only as much as you care to text or call.
We are located on the Westside of Bend. Three minute walk to Backporch Coffee Roasters, Spork, and Newport Market. And a ten minute walk to downtown proper (Bond and Wall Streets) or Ten Barrel on Galveston. 35 minute drive to Mt. Bachelor.
The street is quaint and quiet, and offers more than enough parking. Taxis and shared cabs available to and from the airport. Bike, walk, and run friendly. Get downtown within minutes of stepping out the door.
Other Things to Note
We are pretty minimalist in our home-living approach. If you are looking for fancy wine glasses, an abundance of appliances, a widescreen TV (or any TV for that matter), and expensive furniture... you will want to look somewhere else. If, however, you are thinking: neat, clean, cozy, wood burning stove, simplicity, and so on, then come on in!
Please... no parties, no pets, no smoking. Be respectful and enjoy. Feel free to use the wood burning stove, but be mindful and aware!
This is a quaint house that easily fits 4 people. There is one bedroom and bathroom downstairs and the master suite upstairs. There is not a TV, but we stayed so busy it didn't matter. James and Laura were on top of all the information I needed about checking in and getting the key to the house. The kitchen is nice, and the hosts had tea and coffee available for the guests. I would recommend this house as a great place to stay in Bend! We really enjoyed our time there.
The house was a great size, comfy, and in a great location. We loved our stay.
Our weekend at this home just could not have been better! James and Laura were traveling at the time of our stay, so we didn't get to meet them in person, but we really felt like we were staying at the home of friends. The house has a relaxed and comfortable feeling, and the neighborhood was perfect for our long weekend.
Everything about the description here was true for both house and neighborhood, and if you choose to stay here, you're in for a real Best of Bend experience. Walking distance to great coffee, restaurants and pubs, downtown shopping, and more. It's a great home base for whatever you want to do while you're in Bend. After a day out in the sun (weather was HOT while we there!), it felt so good to come back to our cool and comfy "home" and relax before planning our evening adventures.
Laura and James were super easy to work with. Even while they were traveling, they were quick to respond to our questions by email, and there were some pretty simple guidelines and tips left for us at the house. There were snacks in the fridge, tea and coffee in the cabinets, and a very eclectic selection of books on the shelf. We are looking forward to staying at this house again, and highly recommend it to you.
We had a wonderful stay in Bend. James and Laura's home is clean, beautiful and very accommodating. We could easily walk to town. We also enjoyed the outdoor fire pit.
The hosts were quick to respond and they made check-in/out a breeze. They were very sweet to put up a Christmas tree and to leave cookies. We came with a lot of gear so it was nice to be able to use the garage to unload skis, etc. during our stay. We loved being in walking distance to coffee shops, the Newport Market, and some great restaurants. Easy drive to town and to Mt. Bachelor. The house is in good shape with just about everything you need. I missed having a toaster and wine glasses, but otherwise the kitchen was well equipped. With the addition of a few amenities such as new pillows, kitchen towels and fresh kitchen washcloths this place will be very cozy.

About the Host, James And Laura
We live in Bend. It's great. Laura is a wildland firefighter and masters student and James is a reporter and also in a masters program. We're both writers, bike nerds and general outdoor recreate-ers who enjoy good food, drink and conversation. Cheers.
