The Space

I only rent out 1 bedroom at my house. It is on the first floor of the house, with direct access to the kitchen and living room. This place is suitable for those who want to experience a local Jakartan life in a typical Jakartan Kampung (Kampung = local village). The size of the room is 12m2 + ensuite shower wash + toilet of 6m2. The size of kitchen: 20m, size of living room: 20m2, and size of upper deck: 50m2.

Guest Access

The guests can use any amenities available in a typical house: free wifi, the whole kitchen, living room, books to read, upper deck, washer, clothes lines (or dryer if you need it quick).

In the shelves in your room, you can find:
Map of Jakarta
Map of Jakarta Train Route
Map of TransJakarta Bus Route
Suggestions on places to visit in Jakarta.
Suggestions on places to visit in Bogor
Book on Indonesia and places to visit in Indonesia.

Hot shower is available in the morning until 9am.
I do not serve breakfast, but you are welcome to any foods or drinks you can find/cook in the kitchen.

Interaction with Guests

I live in the house alone, on the second floor. We will share the kitchen and living room (that I seldom use). I work during work days but when I am at home, I'd be more than happy to chat with you and perhaps help you with your trip planning.

One of my neighbor will help you in and show you your room, but that's it. You will mostly be on your own and therefore please make yourself at home.

During the day, there is an old lady who helps me clean. She doesn't speak speak English, and she will not get into your room unless you ask her to help clean it. She is honest, kind, and helpful.
My nieces and nephews would sometimes visit me during weekend because they like using the upper deck. They are very well behaved, polite, and eager to meet you. However, you will mostly be on your own.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is an old neighborhood with people of various ethnic backgrounds, education, and lives, where a very big house stands across super-tiny houses. It is a very safe neighborhood because we have lived there too long and know one-another well.

The neighborhood basically has every kind of stores that travellers might need. My house is very close to traditional market that opens from 5 to 10am that sells fresh produce at very low cost. Close to where you can fix your shoes and clothes.
If you are o.k. with street foods, you can buy breakfast cheap from my neighbors (I often do it as well) from the stalls they set up in front of their houses.

Because this is a kampung, it has muslim prayer house (albeit super small) that broadcast prayer calls. The first prayer call is at 4.30am when Jakartans are expected to raise. Some people just doze-off, while others take notice.
NOTES: Every Thursday evening 6pm - 7.30pm, the neighborhood will be noisy by the prayers/songs/anything broadcasted via the loudspeaker from the surrounding prayer houses.

Getting around

The house is only 60m from public transportation, 300m from train station, 400m from TransJakarta bus stop, 5 minutes walk to the main-main road.

To get to my place: On the famouse internet map, search for "Bersih Residence".

Here are several ways to get to my place from the international airport.
1. By Golden Bird Limo. This is what I always use from the airport when I have a luggage or when I want to sleep on the way home. This is the best taxi service in the country with most affordable price (only IDR210,000 if you order in advance). I consider the price cheap beause their price is fixed and my house happen to be at the end (at the border) of their Zone 1 and for 210,000IDR, you don't have to pay anything else (airport tax and toll fee). Hence the price difference with metered taxi is less than 2USD.
I can help you book for the limo if you give me your flight details. If you plan to catch a taxi at the airport without booking in advance, you can do that but please choose carefully.

2. Take Damri Bus (IDR30,000) to Rawamangun, and the moment the bus get off the fly-over, many passengers will get off there. Get off with them. Walk to the Kayu Putih Rawasari TransJakarta bus shelter, pay IDR3,500 and take the TransJakarta bus to 'Jatinegara Flyover' stop, take the stairs down to the below the flyover. Cross the railway crossing, take APB04 and stop at WARTEL DONA. That stop is 5 houses away from my house.

3. Take Damri Bus (IDR 30,000) to Rawamangun and take a Blue Bird Taxi to my house (IDR50,000) or take Bajaj (IDR30,000).

Other Things to Note

1) Please observe the house rules.
2) If you come from abroad and are planning to apply for Visa on Arrival, make sure that you have your return ticket already printed so that the process will be easier for you at the immigration counter.
3) The check-out time is noon (12.00), I need to prepare the room for the new guest, but you can stay in the house until afternoon.

  • Ira was the best host we have been with! Her house is beautiful and comfortable, filled with everything you need. She supplied us with train tickets so we could travel easily and safely around the city! She is close to a traditional market, great food, sights, and of course shopping! We loved her hospitality and are leaving with a life-long friend! Can't wait to come again in the future!

  • Ira was very nice and helpful and the room was clean. She booked our airport transfers, called the driver because he got lost and even helped us book our plane for the next day.
The only thing to be aware of is that the room is very far from the centre and you are in an area with ONLY locals and street food stalls.

  • I stayed this place one night. This was my third time in Jakarta.
This is the first time to homestay, so I could experience normal life in Jakarta at her place, away from hectic building area.
It is located at traditional Jakarta street, although it is still very centre of Jakarta.
I like to hear kids are playing around her place in the evening. Her neighbors are also freidnly.
Fast wifi network is really precious for me, a tourist. Basic amenities are there too. Very new aircon is also installed, and the wind from that is very gentle, which I liked. The lighting is a bit dark for me for reading, but it is ok.
Ira is very kind, very helpful. She even provided me lotion of anti-mosquito.
On the departure morning, she kindly dropped me at nearest cafe by her car and offered me to call taxi even after she went to office.

  • We only stayed one night at Ira's place, but anyway we had an awesome time there. The Room has everything you'll need for a nice stay in a very authentic part of jakarta. When we arrived at Jakarta Airport, Ira had already given us a detailed plan how to find her apartment and so it was no problem at all to get there.
Thank you very much for the great time at your house and for all the help with our questions about jakarta and indonesia in general, as well.

  • We had a great time in Jakarta! Ira told us about Indonesia, organized everything we needed and was not only an amazing host, but also a friend.
    Thank you so much, Ira!

  • Staying with Ira was a lovely experience. The room is fully equipped with fan, en suite bath, and quick entry to the kitchen. The upstairs outdoor deck is a pleasant oasis from the busy city, and so is the neighborhood in general - houses full of families with laughing kids, felt very safe and welcoming.

A really great street of Indonesian restaurants and carts just around the corner, you will have delicious foods for days. (And if you are craving bigger or more Western restaurants, the Jantinegara TransJakarta bus station is a very close walk.)

Ira has made a very comprehensive booklet of how to's and where to's to make your journeys enjoyable and stress free! (And she even called for pizza and a cab for us when we had trouble speaking Bahasa over the phone.)

Good thing to know is that (website hidden) Maps thinks Ira's address is a couple kilometers away from where it actually is, and despite Ira's excellent directions, the minibus drivers from Jantinegara still got confused (our Bahasa not being super good). So after you have arranged to meet Ira at the house the first time, drop a pin and save the location to your mobile maps so you can find your way back again.

And if you do get lost, Ira was always on call for anything we had trouble with! You will want for nothing as long as you are in her care, and you will enjoy talking with her about the many places she has visited and cultures she has experienced. (And ask her about the hot ginger drink! Still dreaming about our delicious welcome beverage ... :)

  • Ira is well-versed in Indonesian culture and history. She is very friendly and eager to help. She even drove us to tour President Obama's former neighbourhood, where he spent four years of his childhood in Jakarta.
I would highly recommend her to other travellers, who like to learn and respect the Indonesian culture and customs.

I am a rather experienced traveler myself, and have hosted many travelers. I suppose you are using Jakarta as your first base for your Indonesia trip and would like to spend a short trip getting to know the city. I have prepared for you (on the shelves in the room) several maps: of Jakarta, of TransJakarta (bus network), city train, Java train route, schedule of the city train, schedule of Java train, and free wi-fi. A copy of Indonesia travel guide book is also available for you to read. You can use them, but please return them for the next travelers. If you need to print anything, the house is only 10m away from a cyber cafe that opens 24/7. I don't provide breakfast because I don't cook, but tea and coffee are available for you to prepare yourself. I DO NOT ACCEPT: Non-verified guests No-picture guests Any deal outside AirBnB system.
