About this listing
I offer two nice rooms in a confortable apartment at only 15 min walk to the center of the city. Next to the main avenue of the city and with all the services near. I speak spanish, english, french, italian and I have a great knowledge of the city. ;-)
We are very near of all the services: markets, banks, hospitals and clinics. The university and the bus station for the Sacred Valley by Pisac is at only few blocks. Also the offer for the restaurants is varied and the department have a good space for the car entrance.
Walter is a nice, relaxed guy. He met me outside and helped me with my luggage and showed me how to find the apartment from the Main Street. The location of the apartment is great, only 25 mins walk from the main plaza de armas. Lots of buses run from the Main Street to wherever you may want to go as well. Also it's very easy to get a taxi from the main road. The area is good, but I was advised to take a taxi if coming home late at night. So I would advise the same thing as it's not that safe late at night for a girl by herself.
The room is comfortable and had hangers and a place to store my clothes. The room is a little bit cold though so may need an extra blanket. Walter bought fresh bread and butter for breakfast every morning. He was also very helpful in telling me about good local markets to go to and places to see. He is a good cook and taught me how to make a few traditional peruvian salads and stuff that I was interested in. I felt very at home and relaxed during my stay and had a really nice time living in the area :)
Walter was very nice and helpful.I arrived to his house at (website hidden) and he was there to welcome me.He helped me many times and give me some advices about the Machu Picchu.
He is someone very interesting and our conversations were it also.
The room was very quiet and the flat very spacious
The flat is not so far from the central place and you just have to walk 20 min to go there.
Everything was good with no problem ! I deeply recommend you this room !
I had a long stay for nine days at this flat while I toured and visited different sites in Cuzco. While Walter was there and served me some bread the first couple of mornings and accompanied me to the store the first day, but he had a business engagement that took him to Lima the rest of the time. He was very attentive when I got there and even went so far as having a cousins come over and meet me before he left and had her call me every night about nine pm to see if I needed any help while he was gone. Once she and her Mom came over and cleaned the place after I had been there almost a week and the Mom offered to do my laundry for just 11 soles (about 4 US dollars).
Cuzco is an amazing place, but remember this is a small middle class flat in South America and not like a hotel. The bathroom is shared and the bed and covers were a little short for my 6 foot 2 inch frame, but remember these are generally much smaller people. He doesn't believe in television and so you don't have that to entertain you at night, but otherwise the living room, bedroom, and bathroom are very comfortable. The neighborhood and apartment are definitely secure, with two dead bolted doors. He furnishes keys so you can come and go on your own schedule.
The flat is just about a block off of Avenida La Cultura, one of the main thoroughfares from there to the main square. Down the hill there is a small market and pharmacy ( I needed that because I ate fresh lettuce and tomatoes in Lima and Cuzco and got the travelers diahhrea twice during my two weeks in Peru which was readily dealt with some pills from the pharmacy). The room is about a 20 minute walk to the main square for a native, but about 30 or 40 minutes for a low country gringo, but still easily walkable. Taxis will readily take you there or home for four to six soles (about a dollar and a half to two dollars). About three to four blocks away the other direction from the main square there is a large, new mall with all kinds of stores, various fast food restaurants, and a new Chili's which I went to three times during my nine days when I wanted to splurge and spoil myself with totally gringo food.
Although I had some trouble finding my way on several occasions, everyone is willing to help if you can speak some Spanish. And there are plenty of people in the tourism business and around the main square who speak quite a bit of English if you don't.
I would recommend this flat to anyone visiting this memorable city and area and found Walter Aparicio to be a very gracious host.
Walter had to wait for us, since our Perurail train was about 1,1/2 hours late, but he was there when we finally got there and led us to the apartment and checked us in. The apartment was very roomy and the room was fine with a comfortable bed. He was a very interesting host that made it fun to share a bottle of wine with in the evening. He provided fresh bread rolls for breakfast.
The place is about 15-20 m walk to the main square but the location was safe and there were a lot of shops and restaurants just nearby.
We had a really good stay in Cusco and our chats with Walter provided great insight into the Peruvian psyche.
