About this listing
Welcome to the heart of it all! We are located at the intersection of 3 great neighborhoods: Mission, Noe and Bernal. The location is great for those who want to really experience all that this vibrant part of the city has to offer, or who want a home base with easy access to tons of public transport and freeways. Valencia corridor, 24th St, Cortland, and of course Mission are all minutes away on foot. BART is just a few blocks away. Parks, restaurants, art, music, urban hikes. It is all here.
WE ARE BACK AFTER 7 MONTHS OF CONSTRUCTION UPSTAIRS!!!
The apartment is an eclectic Victorian one bedroom. Soaring 11 foot ceilings in the kitchen/sitting room give way to dramatic views of Bernal Heights Park from the entry and front porch. The bedroom is ample, there is a full kitchen (you can cook here!), and the bathroom is quite warm and cozy. You'll have access to our backyard where you can relax, or take in a lovely sunset.
Decor is international shabby chic. We have antiques galore (nothing Ikea here!) as well as items collected from our decades of world travels. If you like to look at interesting things, you'll amuse yourself daily by checking out all the different things we have on the walls.
NO SMOKING of any kind anywhere on the property. Smoking is only permitted on the sidewalk in front of the house, or preferably if you smoke, go for a walk. This includes smoking of any kind of substances.
We have wireless internet but no television. (We don't even have a TV in our own apartment! Just not our style. We are part of the 2% of Americans who don't own a TV!)
Kitchen - Full kitchen, regular sized stove and oven. There is a small electric toaster oven for use. Great as a toaster or to bake something small. We use ours more than our real oven since it is way more efficient. Let us know if you find you are missing something!
Bedroom - There is a regular queen bed in the room, a dresser, a chair.
Deck - This front deck is your private entrance. Feel free to use it while you are here. It gets amazing light in the morning, and can be quite warm on sunny days (even in the winter!).
Yard - Please feel free to use the yard. Other tenants also use the yard. Toys for kids out there too.
Parking/Car rental - We have no designated in/out parking here. Please inquire about longer term parking (1 week or more, storage only). There is street parking usually within 3-4 blocks. A private pay parking lot 1/2 block away is $10 a day. In same lot, a Hertz 24/7 rental car station (check online), $10-15 per hour, great for going shopping or a day getaway.
Extras - Stay with us and get a FREE pass for two adults and unlimited children to California Academy of Sciences! Get 10% off in the gift shop and cafe. Upwards of $100 value!!! Please ask about passes in advance of your stay so we can coordinate.
Interaction with Guests
Our family owns and lives in the building. You have a private access to one bedroom, one bathroom and kitchen, all with a private entrance. But we do share other space in this apartment on this floor and the entire floor above you. The other half of the apartment that we use is only access via a separate door that does not enter your space. Nobody will need to enter your part of this apartment while you are here. We might cross paths coming and going, and we'll always say hi and introduce ourselves. We are happy to give you advice on what to do in SF if you want (we both grew up in the area) or you can use our guidebook on the Airbnb sight or the several books we have provided in the apartment. If you would like more detailed info on what to do, send me a message and we'll try to arrange a time that works for us all. We are excited to share our home and our city with you!
We are at the edge of three great neighborhoods. We are located close to a dog and kid friendly park (Precita Park) as well as a wonderful view and hiking park (Bernal Heights Park). We are minutes walk to the heart of The Mission (quintessential SF food/hipsters/politics/culture), Valencia (Mission gone boutique-hipster), Noe Valley (strollers, Whole Foods, and yuppie- boutiques), as well as 24th street (Latin American flavor with some sprinkles of hipster & punk).
You could spend a week exploring nearby on foot, but venturing beyond our neighborhood is easy too. Subway, bus, rental cars, freeway access are all just blocks away!
NO SMOKING of any kind anywhere on the property. Respect quiet of our house and neighborhood. Children live in and around the house. No parties. No more than 6 people allowed in the apartment. Quiet hours are 10pm-7am.
No overnight guests who are not on the Airbnb rental agreement unless discussed ahead of time.
Please make use of anything we have in the apartment, but please respect it as well as many items are antiques and some are fragile.
Please let us know ASAP about any problems with the apartment or anything that is lacking. We want to make this a wonderful experience for our guests. We are constantly adding/changing based on your feedback!
No pets allowed, never. Sorry. We like pets, but due to allergies we can accept them :(
Ian's place is wonderful, and exactly as described. It's cozy, well-stocked, well-equipped, and comfortable. It's on a beautiful residential street steps from either the hustle of the Mission or the other relaxing streets of Bernal Heights and a park with some of the greatest views of San Francisco.
Ian himself is a great host, accommodating, communicative, proactive and generous. E.g. there was a small snafu with the keys getting into the place the first night, but he called me back, more than made me whole for the small hassle, and went above and beyond to make up for it and show that he cares about his guests.
And when I asked for an aerobed for my colleague, we realized that I'd put down that it would just be one guest instead of two. Again, super accommodating, no hassle, just a quick adjustment to the reservation, a conversation about our work, and a call to make sure that we had everything we needed.
I would absolutey recommend staying here!
We had a great stay at Ian's apartment! We were in a great location that was in walking distance to a lot of fun restaurants and bars. The accommodations were perfect for us and the bed is super comfy! This listing is idea for deep sleepers. Awesome place overall.
Ian's place was cozy, homely and in a great location. Very handy to the Bart for quick transport into the city. Lovely safe neighborhood and an easy enjoyable experience all round. Thanks Ian for sharing your place with us during our stay in San Francisco.
a lovely apartment on a nice, quiet street. has all the mod cons and Ian was very hospitable, arranging museum passes for us.
This is a great home in a great neighborhood! It was quiet and a nice change of pace from the busy, tourist attractions we visited all day. We had a car but parking wasn't an issue, and loved how accessible everything is. Ian was great about providing us with a Pac & Play for our daughter. Thanks for everything!
We highly recommend staying at Ian's place!
We had a great time staying in the lovely apartment of Ian. The apartment is large and comfortable, full of cute little items that add so much charm and was perfectly clean when we arrived. It was easy to get in with Ian's instructions. We met Ian only once on the night we arrived who is very pleasant guy but we didnt see him anymore since there was no need really, we had everything we needed and everything was working fine. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, residential but just minutes away from mission street with bars, restaurants and shops. La taqueria and Mission pie are great for a quick but delicious bite. Also 10minutes away from the Bart and in another direction 10minutes to trendy Valencia, Mission Dolores park and Castro a bit further. We had a great time in San Francisco, thanks Ian!

About the Host, Ian
I am a tinker of all sorts. Our home is full of antiques and art, collected from across the ages and across the world. We love to travel and you will encounter textiles, art and photographs from our travels around the world. I also refinish and refurbish antique furniture, so you'll find many of my treasures throughout the house.
