About this listing
We love to live in and share one of the best kept secrets in California....Channel Islands Harbor!
We are the gateway to Channel Islands National Park, have amazing boating, whale watching, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and so much more....
The wonderful beauty of this waterfront location is only the beginning! We are the gateway to the Channel Islands National Park, a pristine group of islands off of our coast that have incredible diving, hiking, kayaking, whale watching and so much more! You have available to you for a nominal daily charge, 2 Ocean kayaks with paddles, 2 Stand Up paddle boards with his and hers paddles, a soft top longboard, a 7'6" tri fin fun board, harbor tours aboard a Boston Whaler, day sailboat excursions and more!
This space is unique because of all that is available to a waterfront unit. You have access to all water toys and also sail, power, and fishing charters. There is a pool/jacuzzi, exercise room, pool tables, darts, and ping pong table. There is a banquet room that can be rented. The space is tastefully decorated with all modern amenities and your own private balcony.
You are walking distance to all waterfront shops, wine bars, grocery and drug stores, restaurants, and the Maritime Museum
There is a new queen pillowtop bed in the bedroom and a queen aerobed that can be set up in living room to accommodate 4.
Guests will have access to all amenities on the property and everything that is literally steps outside your door. Here we have a pool and jacuzzi, tennis courts, dartboard, and 2 pool tables ( we have 2 rackets, darts, and billiard balls and cue stick ). Our community center can be rented out for a small fee for private parties.
Next door to our property is The Marine Emporium Landing, with restaurants, kayak and SUP rentals, Electric boat rentals, bike rentals, wave runner rentals, day and overnight fishing trips, whale watching ( in season ), and national park island excursions. Lots of local brochures and menus in binder located in night table next to bed.
Interaction with Guests
As much or little as you want really. We always check in by phone once to see if you need anything and you're enjoying your stay, but unless you want a tour guide, a captain, or suggestions on restaurants/things to do, you're on your own. There is no shortage of fun things to do, and its pretty great to just kick back and relax.
Out your front door is the water and view of every boat coming in or leaving harbor. Out the back door and half a block away is Hollywood Beach to put your toes in the sand and see the beautiful islands off our coast. Catch a sunset and have a libation at the infamous Rudder Room right on the sand!
You can easily leave your car parked in our gated parking lot the whole time you are here if you wish. Almost everything is within walking distance, and there is also a water taxi that can take you to Supermarket and more restaurants. Besides that, we love Uber!
Other Things to Note
*** Please note that 4 times a year our rates will be slightly higher because of our location and demand:
Memorial Day Weekend
July 4th (we have the best place to sit and watch fireworks from patio, see them in the sky and the reflection in the water! They are launched right across the water from our property.)
Labor Day Weekend
Festival of Lights Holiday Boat Parade Weekend (we are right in front of the parade route, so you see every boat pass by numerous times, and can even get out to docks to get a closer view)
Look up the Ventura County Wine Trail and you'll see we have some world class tasting rooms and wineries all within a 10-15 mile radius of the residence.
There are also 2 great Automobile Museum collections close by: The Mullin Automotive Museum (my fave) and The Murphy Auto Museum.
Downtown Ventura is a great little beach town main street with great shops, cafes, and restaurants.
We love our place and we are very happy to be able to share, we just ask that you treat it with respect and realize this is a home, not a hotel or party pad. There is no smoking in residence or on patios. We have a cleaning service, but we ask that you leave it like you found it as best you can. There are places to dump trash and a dishwasher. We'll take care of the rest!
Please also respect the neighbor's and community's space and privacy, there is no amplified music between the hours of 10pm and 8am.
** Unless by prior arrangement, no guests other than those stated on the reservation request are allowed on the property. Thank you for understanding! **
This trip was to celebrate my husband's birthday and we had a wonderful time!
From the beginning we had a great experience with the communication. Captain Steve was very helpful and very informative.
The home is very clean, relaxing, and exactly as shown on the photos. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching passing boats - very peaceful place!
The location is perfect for long walks on the beach. In fact there are hardly any people on the beach which is so wide and beautiful! The marina and the restaurants are within walking distance. There is a wonderful Farmer's market on Sundays.
Thank you Captain Steve - we will be back!
We were looking for a relaxing place to spend the 4th of July holiday with our daughter. Captain Steve was a wonderful host. The home was immaculate. He had a board set up with all notes we'd need for our stay. There were plenty of towels and cookware and daily home necessities. Lots of great touches such as candles on timers. We used the fireplace every night, spent lots of time on the back deck playing cards and chatting with neighbors. We used the grill for the 4th which was great. It was a super smooth stay and we'd love to go back again. We'd recommend the stay for anyone looking for a relaxing get away from LA.
Captain Steve was as welcoming as a host could be. We had to arrive very late, sometime after 10PM, and he was completely patient and encouraging. He even waited outside to show us where to drive in and dark. His unit is very spacious, with a full kitchen, a bedroom, and a huge living room with giant comfy sofas. The deck outside is so totally peaceful, looking directly on to the marina in front. The neighborhood is a quiet, clean marina neighborhood. The unit looks just like the photos.
Captain Steve was a great host! He met our party before the 3PM check in time on Friday which was very cool of him! The Oasis was located in the best location in the entire complex (facing the water). The house was fully stocked with everything that we could need and more (towels, blankets, etc.) The relaxation oasis was perfect for our group. We really loved the beautiful zen decor, fancy fireplace, harbor view balcony, and stocked kitchen. The beach and some local restaurants were conveniently within walking distance from the place. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the serenity of the coast. We would both recommend and return to the harbor oasis in a heartbeat. Thank you Capitan Steve!
I surprised my husband with an anniversary weekend getaway at this home and we had a wonderful experience! The home was very clean and cozy and exactly as described/photographed. The location is perfect for long walks on the beach or around the marina and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance (we loved the Waterfront Restaurant for Sunday Brunch!). Capt. Steve & Ginger are very thoughtful hosts and the anniversary gift they left for us was a very nice touch. We will be back!
Perfectly perfect stay. Kind hosts, A quiet dockside apartment on the water. One block from beach. Very Comfortable in every way.
A solid "Tip o' the Cap!" to Captain Steve & Ginger.
Steve was a great host. Very welcoming and helpful. Made sure that we were comfortable throughout our stay. Check in and out was easy. Thank you for providing a great home base for us in Oxnard.

About the Host, Captain Steve
Hmmmmm......I am a reincarnated explorer and sea captain. I derive much joy from the comedy that is the human race. I can sit in an airport anywhere in the world for hours on end and be thoroughly entertained.
5 things I can't live without: 1. Laughter 2. Music 3. Good food and wine (I know that's two, but I hate to break them up) 3. Connection with myself and others 4. Travel 5. Water ( in the literal sense as well as any activity above, below, next to, or on it.)
I have many favorite travel destinations, but am more excited about the places I have yet to see. My internal compass seems to point anywhere that is 75 degrees Farenhieit or more and the water is warm 90 % of the year.
Books - Encyclopedia Brittanica (old school!)
Movies - Best in Show
Shows - Any Cirque d' Soleil
Music - Almost all
Food - Almost all
As a Host, you will find that I am polite, accommodating, and engaging. I would strive to have your experience be filled with joy, laughter, and good memories.
As a guest, I am also polite, and being prone to being of service, I am still probably accommodating! I have heard I am a fun guest, and have friendships still with many who have hosted me.
My style of travel is usually no definite itinerary and "let's see where this takes us" detours
My life motto: Keep Learning
