Upstairs apartment (with full kitchen and bath) has three bedrooms to comfortably sleep six. From our vintage home walk one block to public transportation that accesses all of Portland, or five blocks to the vibrant historic Hollywood district.

The Space

Our biggest plus is location: $25 cab from airport or public transportation from airport or train station; quiet residential neighborhood; several historic districts within walking distance; nearby public transportation (light rail and bus) give access to the entire Portland Metro area. We rarely use our car. View the space in the pictures. We will provide coffee/tea and breakfast snacks for you to serve yourselves.

Guest Access

You will be able to use our lovely, enclosed backyard garden with patio table/four chairs/peaceful shady bench and watch the humming birds and gold finches splash in the water feature.
Be aware that as it is an upstairs apartment, there are stairs to climb....23 stairs total from the sidewalk level to the apartment level.

Interaction with Guests

While you will have my cellphone number so that I can try to meet any needs you have, you didn't come to Portland to visit with us. I will be just downstairs most of the time, but probably will not interface with you unless you want me to.

The Neighborhood

Quiet old residential neighborhood, many 100+ year- old, well-kept homes, beautiful yards with many flowering plants and mature trees.

Getting around

Definitely good access to public transportation. One block to a bus that takes you the 9 blocks to the Hollywood transit center with access to the light rail which goes to the PDX airport or into down town. That same bus will take you over to the Amtrak railroad station.

Other Things to Note

The front bedroom now has a queen bed and a single. The side bedroom has a double bed and the under-the-eaves room has a twin bed.

  • Tom's place is excellent for a stay in Portland. The host was very welcoming and full of useful information. The space is homely but well prepared for guests.

The location is in a nice quite urban neighbourhood which is well connected to down town and other interesting bits of the East Side.

    All round very positive.

  • Tom and his wife were extremely nice and welcoming hosts, who reacted instantly to anything we had to ask. The apartment is very nice and cosy, in a residential and quiet neighborhood conveniently located. We really enjoyed our stay there and recommend the place to anyone willing to visit Portland in the best conditions.

  • The apartment was great and convenient. We didn't need to ask for assistance with anything and it was easy to get in and out. There are some awesome places nearby like Wholesome Blends coffee for example (they have coffee ice cubes for iced drinks!). Check-out is one of the easiest I've had with airbnb.
    I definitely recommend this place.

As far as fitting 6 people, it definitely does with two single beds, a double bed and a queen bed. Sometimes places say they fit more than they actually do comfortably. The sheets were comfy and the towels that were provided were great.

There is a cute patio that you see in the picture with some chairs. We were on the go and didn't have a chance to take advantage of hanging out but it looked inviting!

  • Tom was a great host! He met us just after midday to get us set up in his place, which was exactly as it was shown online. Fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, and 3 rooms! The neighourhood is very quiet and peaceful, just down the street from multiple bike routes and grocery stores, great amenities. Would stay here again if we wanted a quiet weekend away with 4+ people.

I'm a retired Chemistry Professor and I am totally hooked on family genealogy, and maintaining my health through continuous aerobic exercise (cycling). That is Leslie, my wife of 40 years, in the picture. She lives here too and you may see her if she is not working.
