Forbes just named our town, Kapaa as one of the 15 prettiest towns in America.
In the Aug. 16 photo gallery posted on the Forbes Magazine website, Kapaa is described as having “a small-town Polynesian paradise quality that feels much more connected to the island’s past,” that is “unlike the high-rise strewn beaches that line so many of Hawaii’s stretches of coast.”
“It’s a very Hawaiian town with traditional ukulele makers and fish taco trucks parked under the palm trees.” Evans wrote. “It’s a small town with a lot of Hawaiian life, minus the tourist fray.”
Please per Hawaiian rules, kindly remove your shoes when entering the house.

I had a stay in the "Mountain View" room. It was very clean, privat and the view to the mountain and the garden was really fantastic. I'm sure that you have a lot of work to do to keep this all so beautiful like it is.
In the room was a fridge, a coffee machine and on a table outside were always fresh fruits to take.
I met Cindy and her husband once and there were very nice and helpfully. Cindy also gave me a travelbook and some good travel tips.
This is really good choice for those who like a bit to be in silence. Kapa'a is a nice, some minutes to drive by car.
I really enjoyed my stay and like to recommend it!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Auntie Cyndies. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only complaint...and Cyndie has no control over this...is the wild roosters crowing at all hours of the night.
Never met "Auntie Cyndie". Met someone named Doug who showed us our room. Anytime we needed something (towels, coffee) we emailed Cyndie and were very well accommodated. The grounds are absolutely beautiful! The fruit they left us daily from their land was the most delicious. As for the room, it was marginal. Was NOT restful! The roosters start crowing at 11:15 at NIGHT!! Then other creatures are howling, dogs barking. Trucks and locals rip through the street at top speeds - sounds like you're next to a racetrack.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Auntie Cyndie's private mountain view room so much! The location was great, just a 5 minute drive inland from the highway, just enough to have a really calm, quiet country vibe, but feel we were close to town with our car.
Cyndie was very accommodating. I was 27 weeks pregnant during our visit, and she left me a nice long body pillow to use if I needed it. The free fruit on the picnic table is a nice touch as well. We were able to do basic breakfasts in the room with the mini fridge and dishes provided (great coffeemaker too, though we preferred going into the local cafes instead).
A very relaxing experience, and we enjoyed the location of Kapa'a- very central. We would certainly consider staying here again! Thanks Cyndie! :)
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Auntie Cyndie's! We stayed in the Mountain View room, and I was stunned by how gorgeous the view was from there. What a perfectly situated house, as we had a lovely view of the mountain and the other side looks onto the sea. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the room, and we had no bug problems our entire week long stay. The room was quite spacious and had everything we needed. Besides what is listed (good size mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig, full bathroom), there are lots of other thoughtful touches as well, such as a selection of coffee and tea, bottles of water and a Brita pitcher, sunblock and insect repellent, great travel guidebooks, beach chairs and beach towels, a flashlight, utensils and knives, a cutting board, plates and cups, and dish-washing soap and a sponge! We loved the fresh fruit she left for us (like Rambutan, which I'd never had before!), and she also had a cute "take one, leave one" library as well.
When booking this, I was a bit sad we couldn't afford to stay in a resort directly on the beach. However, after seeing some of the resorts in the area, I ended up SO HAPPY we stayed here instead. The resorts felt extremely crowded and touristy, and the beaches near them were were packed and noisy. Staying at Auntie Cyndie's, I felt I was amid the locals, and it was like a refreshing retreat where we were able to get away from it all. I ended up loving the car rides to and from her house, especially when one day as we turned a corner we got to see some baby goats happily running/bouncing alongside the fence. What an adorable sight! Another day, when looking outside my window as I ate breakfast, a huge rainbow laced itself through the sky right outside her home. This place is magical! :)
I remember reading someone post about the water not getting very hot, and I found this to occasionally be the case. However, I certainly never had to take cold showers and it was always very warm at least.
All in all, we would gladly stay here again as we loved our room and the location is excellent, central to most places we visited on the island. Thank you so much, Auntie Cyndie, and we hope to be back again someday! :)
My husband and I had a wonderful weeklong stay at Auntie Cyndie's place. The location is beautiful, up in the hills and tucked away from what small amount of traffic and noise there is in Kapa'a. It's a huge property with nice views of the ocean and mountains. The location itself was at a fairly midway point between the sunny beaches in the south (e.g., Poipou) and the Napali coast, so we were never traveling too far for day trips. The hosts keep a fresh supply of fruit grown on the property, so everyday we were eating fresh passion fruit and apple bananas that Auntie Cyndie picked for us.
Cyndie's listing in Kapaa is truly exceptional. She has gone above and beyond figuring out exactly what her guests need, and the thoughtfulness really shows. The room has a cozy feel, yet is extremely clean and spacious. The view during the day and the stars at night are incredible. I had such a great experience here and would gladly stay again :)
