The space
Welcome to The Cypress House in Cedar Key

We’re so glad you’ve chosen to experience Cedar Key with us. Below you’ll find helpful information to ensure your arrival and stay are as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Cedar Key is a place on this earth unparalleled to any other. There is truly no way to fully describe its unique, slower way of “being,” so we invite you to come experience it for yourself.

Local Airports

Cedar Key Airport (KCDK)
A very small airport for private, small aircraft.

Gainesville Regional Airport
Approximately one hour from Cedar Key. Offers more frequent flights and greater airline options.

Ocala International Airport

Orlando Sanford International Airport
Approximately two and a half hours from Cedar Key and offers the most direct flights to ABE (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton). This is our preferred airport, as there are often many flight options and times. Allegiant is our preferred airline and is often the most cost-effective.

Orlando International Airport
Approximately two and a quarter hours from Cedar Key. Offers the most diverse flight options, though it is a large airport and TSA lines can be long.

Tampa International Airport
Approximately two and a quarter hours from Cedar Key.

St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport
Approximately two and a half hours from Cedar Key. This is another favorite of ours, as it is easy to get in and out of, and Allegiant flies direct from ABE.

Parking

Parking is available on site for up to two cars. Street parking is an option for additional vehicles. Please note that the town of Cedar Key can be strict about parking regulations. Be sure to stay within the white parking lines and park only in designated spaces.

Boat Access

If you have a boat, we can accommodate moderate-sized vessels along the side of the property. Please inquire prior to booking to ensure we can get you safely settled in the available space. Fresh water is available to rinse your boat and equipment.

Prior to Arrival Tips

Because Cedar Key is set apart from the hustle and bustle, we recommend completing your provisioning and grocery shopping on your way into town. This streamlines the process and maximizes your rest and relaxation while on the island.

Please note that this small community has endured an incredible number of hurricanes in recent years, most notably Hurricane Helene. It has been impressive witnessing what a strong community of people can accomplish together. Please be patient as they continue to recover and grow, and thank you for supporting them by being here.

Accessibility Considerations

The Cypress House is predominantly one floor. Please note that there are a few steps in and out of the house.

During Your Stay

Everything will be fully prepared and ready upon your arrival.
If you have any questions or need guidance at any time, we are here to help.

This island retreat is best suited for rest and relaxation, quality time with family and friends, and those seeking quiet and natural beauty. Cedar Key is a sleepy town that tends to turn in early, although a good bourbon at Bonish Studios and a stroll to stargaze make for an ideal way to end a Cedar Key day.

We look forward to welcoming you and hope your time on Cedar Key is both memorable and restorative.

Things to Do on Cedar Key

Getting Around

Rent a golf cart and explore the island. Most of Cedar Key is golf-cart friendly, making it a quick and fun way to get around.
Cedar Key Adventures, located at 609 1st Street, is just a few steps from the house and makes pickup and drop-off easy. Ask for Dell.

Sunrise, Sunset, and Simple Pleasures

Take a brisk walk before the heat of the day and watch the sunrise from the town beach or pier. Occasionally, you may stumble upon a yoga class under the gazebo at the town beach.
Sunsets will blow your mind. Cypress House is just a few houses up from where everyone gathers to watch the magic.

Porch sitting is encouraged—morning coffee, afternoon reading, or sunset contemplation, with no agenda required.

Wildlife Watching

Bird and wildlife watching here does not disappoint. The diversity of avian species is remarkable. Ospreys are vocal and a sight to see as they enjoy their catch of the day. Bald eagles, dolphins, and a local “snowbird” merlin hawk can often be spotted. A resident box turtle is also known to emerge from beneath the house.

Cooking, Movies, and Conversations

The kitchen, although diminutive, is meant to be used. Local seafood, simple meals, and long conversations are encouraged. The outdoor grill is provided for larger or messier meals.

Cozy evenings with a movie on “Big Blue” (the couch) are perfect after a full day outdoors.

Porch conversations—deep talks, laughter, or comfortable silence—are best enjoyed facing the water with someone you love.

Fishing and Water Tours

There are several excellent local charter companies offering private or group fishing trips. Visit the Chamber of Commerce for options.
A favorite is Captain Harold with OMG Suwannee River and Island Tours.

Sunset and Suwannee Park tours are also available through local charters. The Chamber of Commerce can provide current information and availability.

Kayaking

If the weather is calm, kayaking to Atsena Otie is a great local experience. Tides and approaching weather must be carefully monitored to avoid getting stranded in the mud or caught in an impromptu storm. Please seek the advice of locals—they know the drill.

Local Favorites and Strolling

Visit Bonish Bourbon Bar. For such a small town, they have an impressive selection of top-shelf bourbons. It is just a few steps from the house, so there is no need to drive. Ask Pat or Cindy for a recommendation and let them know you are guests of the Cypress House—they are part of the experience.

The small town beach is charming, though not ideal when the tide is out.

Stroll downtown Dock Street, where several boutique shops are returning and appreciate the support. T-shirts and memorabilia can be found here, including Dilly Dally Gally.

Stroll historic Second Street—this is Cypress House’s street. There are wonderful boutiques and activities here as well:
• Main Street Mercantile (local frozen fish available)
• For Shore (beautifully curated home goods; say hi to Joyce)
• Cedar Keyhole Artists Co-op and Gallery
• Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce (excellent local information and guidance)
• Cedar Key Historical Society and Museum (a deep dive into Cedar Key’s unique history dating back to the Seminoles and earlier)

Also worth noting:
• Cedar Key Museum State Park

Dining on Cedar Key

Although dining options are limited, there are some great choices and many up-and-coming possibilities.
• Steamers, now serving in the Second Street Café, offers excellent clams from fresh daily catches.
• The Island Hotel offers a slightly more upscale but still simple dining experience, featuring fresh organic beef from Quincy Ranch. Be sure to try their Island Hotel Original Hearts of Palm Salad. Live music is often offered on the outdoor patio.
• The Prickly Palm serves the best coffee, smoothies, and breakfast items in town. After losing their original location to flooding, they now operate from a charming pink food truck on Second Street next to For Shore. Say hi to Hannah and the team.
• The Daily Grind offers outstanding coffee and great sandwiches, also featuring Quincy Ranch beef.
• Jaybird’s Chicken and Dock Street Dips are located on Dock Street.
