Please note: This bedroom is in the basement and the shared bathroom is on the main level of the house. Our house isn't well suited for small children. Kids over the age of 12 are welcome.
You can use the kitchen or simply enjoy our free awesome breakfasts which we serve at 9:00am every day except Tuesday and Saturday. We are casual and not stuffy and welcome everyone (LGBT friendly). We want you to be as comfortable as possible, so please use the living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room. Check out the pictures and enjoy the outside space as well!
Interaction with Guests
Our approach to airbnb, com is a little warmer and more personal. Click the profile video to the right to see what we're about. We have received tons of positive feedback from our guests. I would say we are completely easy going and have no agenda other than to see you have a good time. If you have any special concerns or requests, click the "CONTACT US" button to your right and we will do our best to accommodate you.
When visiting Portland, where you stay is critical. You want to have easy access to everything. We have that. Our neighborhood is called "Sellwood-Moreland"- you can look it up online and see why it is such a desirable place to be. You can hop a bus and be downtown in 11 minutes! Our home is equal quick walking distance between 2 fantastic parks. We are also within a easy 15 minute walk to Reed College. We have 5 microbreweries and about 15 restaurants within 4 blocks. We can certainly make experienced recommendations! All of Portland is safe, but Sellwood is super safe. Everyone you will meet is super friendly.
You won't need a car if you stay with us, but we have them available (see below). Mass transit is simple (there's an APP for that- "pdxbus"). The bus stop is a 2 min walk from our home and will get you wherever you want to go. We are also a short distance from the Springwater Corridor which is a great bike-only paved road that travels up the east side of the river.
There are bike shops in our neighborhood that will rent bikes for $55.00 per bike per day. We suggest you use our bikes instead. We charge $8 per bike per day (big savings-you can do the math). This also includes everything you need including helmets, lights, locks, cables, rain gear, gloves, and a bike basket cover. Please note, you will be required to wear helmets when you rent our bikes. That is NOT optional.
If you would like us to pick you up and/or take you to the airport, we are willing to drive you for $25 (a cab will cost a LOT more).
If you find yourself needing to rent a car (like a day trip to the coast or the Gorge), you can rent a 2008 Volkswagen GTI or an ALL ELECTRIC 2015 Fiat 500e. All of these will be MUCH cheaper than a car rental PLUS they are right near where you will be staying!
Other Things to Note
We want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. We would encourage you to eat breakfast with us (since it is free and we have a great cook). We have a ton of books about how to "do" Portland, whether restaurants, outdoors, nightlife, etc. Borrow whatever interests you then rent our bikes and see the city this way!
1) Hairdryer, Towels, Shampoo, and Soap- Yes, we have these for you, leave yours at home and save space.
2) Tea Kettle- Yes, we have one for you along with 40 types of tea. Use it in the kitchen or in your room, your choice!
3) $10 cleaning fee; we wash EVERY piece of bed linen between EVERY guest stay and deep clean the bathroom DAILY because that's what we would want if we were guests. You only pay this fee once and it is included in your booking. :)
4) Smoking is only allowed outside on the front and back porches.
Smoking on front or back porch only.
Other than that, we are respectful hosts and happy people who look forward to meeting you!
My host was very friendly and knowledgeable about the city. He provided me with a map and suggestions on places to see while visiting Portland.
My boyfriend and I loved staying in Sellwood. Perfect neighborhood to walk to a quick bite or drink. Kristen and Kip were very nice and welcoming. The basement bedroom was very private. We rented bikes from them for $8 a pop. Super fun way to get around the city and for that price you can't beat it. All the necessary equipment was provided. You won't regret staying with these two. They made our first AirB&B experience a spectacular one.
Kristin and Kip are very warm people and made me feel very welcomed! They are very knowledgeable about local happenings and gave me great suggestions on my travels. The description of the place is very accurate. The house is in a very charming and quite neighborhood and is very accessible via public transportation. I enjoyed my stay very much and will definitely visit Portland again!
Kristin was such a sweetheart! She had everything ready for us and made us feel immediately quite at home. She had really awesome recommendations for our brief stay in Portland!
Such an amazing first AirBnB experience! I would stay with them again in a heartbeat. Felt like hanging out with two friends that you just haven't met yet! From the moment I walked in I felt at home. Both Kristin and Kip are amazing people. Kip greeted me when I arrived, and immediately sat me down with a map, asked me about my interests, and gave me suggested walking tours, places I should go, where the best breweries are, etc. Kristin is super friendly and warm-hearted! Both are really chill and laid-back, but extremely helpful, great conversationalists, etc. Really enjoyed hanging out with both of them! Also Kip is an amazing cook - still dreaming about his breakfasts!
Definitely stay here, you won't regret it. They care so much about making sure you have a great trip and wonderful experience. I'd love to plan a return trip, and would definitely tell my friends to stay there too! Their hospitality was definitely a major part of having such a wonderful vacation! Also they have a super-sweet, adorable cat! Just when I thought their place couldn't get better. ;)
Kristin and her husband (spoke German to our amazement) made our stay a most memorable experience in Portland. From day one we felt like family members even enjoying breakfast together. We can only recommed staying at their place while in Portland!
My wife and I drove to Portland for a good friend's birthday party. This house was only a few blocks from the party. We arrived at 4 pm on Saturday and left at 8:30 the following morning, so we didn't get a chance to take advantage of breakfast, the beautiful neighborhood, or the proximity to mass transit and shops/restaurants. Unlike a typical vacation, this trip was about spending time with our friends and the accommodations needed to be convenient and straightforward so we could do that. This place delivered on both counts.
The instructions on how to get into the house and find our bedroom were perfect. The house has nice public spaces, both inside and out. We only met Kristin briefly as we were preparing to leave. There were two bedrooms being used as guest rooms, and we were in the basement bedroom. There is one shared bathroom for the house with scheduled shower times for each guest room.

About the Host, Kristin
So you are visiting Portland huh? Well you've come to the right place. More than just a place to stay, we are committed to helping everyone get the most of their time here. We have made a full time cause of learning and experiencing the best of Portland's culture, be it food, nightlife outdoors or any of the myriad of "quirky" events that "keep Portland weird". Seriously, whether here for business or vacation, Portland is too much fun to miss out by staying in a hotel and not knowing what to do or where to go. We like biking, drinking beer, listening to local bands/DJs, going dancing, watching soccer, exploring the wilderness and participating in anything that is new and sounds fun! We enjoy our city every day and want to share that with you.
