Please note: This bedroom is in the basement and the shared bathroom is on the main level of the house. Our house isn't well suited for small children. Kids over the age of 12 are welcome.
You can use the kitchen or simply enjoy our free awesome breakfasts which we serve at 9:00am every day except Tuesday and Saturday. We are casual and not stuffy and welcome everyone (LGBT friendly). Interaction with Guests
Our approach to airbnb, com is a little warmer and more personal. Click the profile video to the right to see what we're about. We have received tons of positive feedback from our guests. I would say we are completely easy going and have no agenda other than to see you have a good time. If you have any special concerns or requests, click the "CONTACT US" button to your right and we will do our best to accommodate you.
When visiting Portland, where you stay is critical. You want to have easy access to everything. We have that. Our neighborhood is called "Sellwood-Moreland"- you can look it up online and see why it is such a desirable place to be. You can hop a bus and be downtown in 11 minutes! Our home is equal quick walking distance between 2 fantastic parks. We are also within a easy 15 minute walk to Reed College. We have 5 microbreweries and about 15 restaurants within 4 blocks. We can certainly make experienced recommendations! All of Portland is safe, but Sellwood is super safe. Everyone you will meet is super friendly.
You won't need a car if you stay with us, but we have them available (see below). Mass transit is simple (there's an APP for that- "pdxbus"). The bus stop is a 2 min walk from our home and will get you wherever you want to go. We are also a short distance from the Springwater Corridor which is a great bike-only paved road that travels up the east side of the river.
There are bike shops in our neighborhood that will rent bikes for $55.00 per bike per day. We suggest you use our bikes instead. We charge $8 per bike per day (big savings-you can do the math). This also includes everything you need including helmets, lights, locks, cables, rain gear, gloves, and a bike basket cover. Please note, you will be required to wear helmets when you rent our bikes. That is NOT optional.
If you would like us to pick you up and/or take you to the airport, we are willing to drive you for $25 (a cab will cost a LOT more).
If you find yourself needing to rent a car (like a day trip to the coast or the Gorge), you can rent a 2008 Volkswagen GTI or an ALL ELECTRIC 2015 Fiat 500e. All of these will be MUCH cheaper than a car rental PLUS they are right near where you will be staying!
Other Things to Note
We want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. We would encourage you to eat breakfast with us (since it is free and we have a great cook). We have a ton of books about how to "do" Portland, whether restaurants, outdoors, nightlife, etc. Borrow whatever interests you then rent our bikes and see the city this way!
1) Hairdryer, Towels, Shampoo, and Soap- Yes, we have these for you, leave yours at home and save space.
2) Tea Kettle- Yes, we have one for you along with 40 types of tea. Use it in the kitchen or in your room, your choice!
3) $10 cleaning fee; we wash EVERY piece of bed linen between EVERY guest stay and deep clean the bathroom DAILY because that's what we would want if we were guests. You only pay this fee once and it is included in your booking. :)
4) Smoking is only allowed outside on the front and back porches.
Smoking on front or back porch only.
Other than that, we are respectful hosts and happy people who look forward to meeting you!
My husband and I had an amazing time in Portland and one of the main reasons was due to the awesome information that we got from our hosts! We visited Portland because we are exploring places that we would possibly want to live in, instead of icky Southern California, so we came to Portland open minded and without any plans. We literally wanted to be like the locals and the info we got was perfect for us. We got in really late but they made sure that we got in and were comfortable. We were out early and in late and it was totally okay. Super hosts!
Kristin and Kip, there are no words to explain what you've done for us. We are incredibly happy to have met you. It has been a long time since we have met genuine people, like these two.
We arrived late in the evening our first AirBnB night ever -- unlocked the door, walked through their house, and headed towards the basement. Being our first time, we thought it was a little strange sleeping in a strangers basement without meeting them.. Finally we awoke and something magical started happening. The house's charm changed as we walked up the stairs to start our day. The coffee was put on, we met Kristin and Kip, and we walked outside to beautiful Portland. Coming inside, we felt home -- it literally felt as though we're moving in with Kristin and Kip forever and that's okay. As long as we could bring our dog. We sat around the dining table and talked for a few hours about anything, really.. it was good conversation that doesn't happen all to often. They gave us information on Portland, what to do, where to go, and what places not to go (most important). I don't think we would have done this trip any differently. When you meet Kristin and Kip, trust that these people are here for you -- they love to help you. Kip put me in contact with a recruiter, a person that has moved here, and shared his email for a personal contact -- so we can start our journey of getting out there!
Be sure to ask about the red velvet couch. We owe them a piece of that memory.
We had a truly great stay at Kristin's home. Very friendly hosts, room was spotless and cosy. Neighbourhood exceeded our expectations too - great food, drinks, grocery store, reasonable distance to downtown with the bike or public transport.
We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at this sweet Portland home. It felt welcoming, comfortable, and simple. The best part was the conversation we enjoyed with everyone in morning. Overall, great stay!
Kip and Kristin were very welcoming and were extremely helpful in giving us directions and recommendations for Portland. The house was a little outdated, but was clean and cozy.
Really fantastic couple! They were warm and welcoming. The room was clean and simple, perfect for one night, which was how long I stayed.
Great stay with Kristin and Kip! Very welcoming, great hosts. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was tasty and Kristin and Kip (along with other guests) were great company. Both were super helpful with directions and recommendations for our short trip to Portland.
The house is in a great location for food/drinks and an easy drive to town or out to the gorge.
Would definitely stay again if we're in town!!

About the Host, Kristin
So you are visiting Portland huh? Well you've come to the right place. More than just a place to stay, we are committed to helping everyone get the most of their time here. We have made a full time cause of learning and experiencing the best of Portland's culture, be it food, nightlife outdoors or any of the myriad of "quirky" events that "keep Portland weird". Seriously, whether here for business or vacation, Portland is too much fun to miss out by staying in a hotel and not knowing what to do or where to go. We like biking, drinking beer, listening to local bands/DJs, going dancing, watching soccer, exploring the wilderness and participating in anything that is new and sounds fun! We enjoy our city every day and want to share that with you.
