Bedroom, Breakfast and Bikes!

House - Private room · Southeast 19th Avenue, Portland, OR 97202, United States

Welcome! Your super cozy private bedroom is comfortable for 2 and breakfast is included! We live here because of access to EVERYTHING Portland via bikes or mass transit.

The Space

In your large cozy room, you have a REAL full sized bed with a great mattress. We have tons of bedding and warm stuff if you feel like you need it. Includes Wifi of course. It's private as there are no other bedrooms on that level. The house itself is always kept quite clean.

About check in and check out times: We are really flexible on this and are okay if you want to drop off stuff early- we clean the room and wash 100% of the bedding between every guest. If you want to come in early, you may have to give us some extra time to make the room ready but we are okay with that.

Guest Access

You can use the kitchen or simply enjoy our free awesome breakfasts. We are casual and not stuffy and welcome everyone (LGBT friendly). We want you to be as comfortable as possible, so please use the living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room. Check out the pictures and enjoy the outside space as well!

Interaction with Guests

Our approach to airbnb, com is a little warmer and more personal. Click the profile video to the right to see what we're about. We have received tons of positive feedback from our guests. Our time is our own, (self-employed) so we are totally open to joining you and showing you the best stuff around or leaving you on your own to enjoy the city! I would say we are completely easy going and have no agenda other than to see you have a good time. If you have any special concerns or requests, click the "CONTACT US" button to your right and we will do our best to accommodate you.

The Neighborhood

When visiting Portland, where you stay is critical. You want to have easy access to everything. We have that. Our neighborhood is called "Sellwood-Moreland"- you can look it up online and see why it is such a desirable place to be. You can hop a bus and be downtown in 11 minutes! Our home is equal quick walking distance between 2 fantastic parks. We are also within a easy 15 minute walk to Reed College. We have 5 microbreweries and about 15 restaurants within 4 blocks. We can certainly make experienced recommendations! All of Portland is safe, but Sellwood is super safe. Everyone you will meet is super friendly.

Getting around

You won't need a car if you stay with us. Mass Transit is simple (there's an APP for that- "pdxbus"). The bus stop is a 2 min walk from our home and will get you wherever you want to go. We are also a short distance from the Springwater Corridor which is a great bike-only paved road that travels up the east side of the river.

There are bike shops in our neighborhood that will rent bikes for $35.00 per bike per day. We suggest you use our bikes instead. We charge $5 per bike per day (big savings-you can do the math). This also includes everything you need including helmets, lights, locks, cables, rain gear, gloves, bike basket cover, AND EVEN A CARGO TRAILER. Please note, you will be required to wear helmets when you borrow bikes. That is NOT optional.

If you have a destination in the Portland metro area that is not easily accessible via mass transit, or if you would like us to pick you up and/or take you to the airport, we are willing to drive you for $10. Also, we have a vehicle for rent on a website similar to AirBnb (but for cars). You can discuss this further with us if you like.

Other Things to Note

We want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. We would encourage you to eat breakfast with us (since it is free and we have a great cook). We have a ton of books about how to "do" Portland, whether restaurants, outdoors, nightlife, etc. Borrow whatever interests you then borrow our bikes and see the city this way!

1) Hairdryer, Towels, Shampoo, and Soap- Yes, we have these for you, leave yours at home and save space.

2) Tea Kettle- Yes, we have one for you along with 40 types of tea. Use it in the kitchen or in your room, your choice!

3) We are kid friendly- older ones would do better as our house isn't "toddler proofed". There ARE 2 parks with playground stuff within a 5 min walk :)

4) $5 cleaning fee; we wash EVERY piece of bed linen between EVERY guest stay and deep clean the bathroom DAILY because that's what we would want if we were guests. You only pay this fee once and it is included in your booking. :)

5) Smoking is only allowed outside on the front and back porches.

6) Well-behaved dogs are allowed as long as they stay outside in our fenced back yard. If you have a special situation with your dog, we'd be happy to discuss it with you.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • My boyfriend and I had a great stay with Kristin and Kip. They really embodied the friendly, knowledgeable and proud Portlander. They could not have been more helpful, flexible or quick with the recommendations, and really helped make our trip fantastic.

We definitely took advantage of all the services they had to offer - it made our stay very easy to be picked up/dropped off at/near the airport! We also rented their bikes, which were a deal at $5/day.

Their house is located in a very cute, very safe neighborhood with some great bars and restaurants around it. Downtown is about 30 minutes away by bus, but it's an easy ride. The house was located a little far from some of the things we wanted to do, but definitely nothing insurmountable.

Overall, I highly recommend staying with Kristin and Kip and would again if I had the chance to return to Portland!

  • Kristin and Kip were great hosts for our stay in Portland. The first thing they did was make sure we were fully equipped with maps and information on fun things to do in the city. We were able to rent their bikes for a day for a fun tour of Portland the way it should be seen. Kristin and Kip made sure we had everything we needed for a fun and comfortable stay and we really enjoyed the homemade food made for us every morning. They are in a great neighborhood that is close to anything you would want to do in Portland. If you are visiting Portland this is a great place to stay!

  • We had a great time in Portland thanks to our time with Kristin and family. They pride themselves on the cleanliness of their house, and rightly so.

The location was excellent, close enough to the centre that we could easily get to the stranger areas by bicycle and the bus trip to Downtown was equally quick and simple. The local area had shops, restaurants and a single screen cinema full of the character a multiplex just can't manage. As this was part of a larger trip we had a car, but could happily of travelled around by a mix of bicycle and public transport.

We had a mix of weathers as can be expected in Portland, but were fortunate enough to get a clear day to cycle on and never be completely washed out with the rain.

We chose staying with airbnb over a hotel because we wanted the cliché of a more local feel and it was an excellent decision. We were treated as both friends and guests and got to enjoy conversations over breakfast and useful information about where we might want to go and which methods to use which were really valuable. Equally there was no problem with us keeping slightly weird hours as we tended to head out later to eat, or see a film.

We would happily return to Portland, it's a fantastic city with plenty to do and a really friendly feel to it and if we get the chance Kristin will be at the top of our list of people to stay with.

  • Kristin and Kip are two delightful hosts! They are more than willing to show you all the little fun spots around their neighbourhood, and know all the do's (and don'ts!) when it comes down to restaurants, food, and beer! The microbreweries around are a definite must-see! Kristin and Kip helped out a lot, with recommendations, a pick-up and drop-off at the airport and several maps to help us explore different portland areas! We (my boyfriend and I) would recommend staying here, and would definitely go back to explore some more, and enjoy the warm welcoming atmosphere and breakfasts at Kristin and Kip's! They are super clean, thoughtful (they even figured out a well-working shower-sharing schedule!) and respectful of your privacy too!

  • Kristin and Kip are absolutely wonderful. My girl friend Libby and I had the best time eating breakfast and sharing stories with these two in the morning. Their home is warm and so inviting in a beautiful neighborhood. Great place!

  • Kristin and Kip were absolutely wonderful! They made me a hot cup of tea and went over maps and what I should do while I was in Portland when I arrived which was greatly appreciated and really helpful. And the breakfast Kip made the next day was absolutely wonderful. I almost felt bad that I was out and about most of my stay because they are truly wonderful people. Their home is cozy and in a great location and I would highly recommend staying with them for a wonderful Portland experience!

  • First time to Portland, first time airbnb user and couldn't have found a better place. Kip and Kristen are a very friendly, hospitable couple who go above and beyond to not only make sure you have a good lodging experience, but also to ensure you make the most of your visit to Portland. Situated in a cool family friendly neighborhood, their house almost immediately felt like home. I don't know how they do it! As many reviewers have testified, it was much like staying with family or long time friends. Pubs, restaurants, antique stores, coffee shops, you name it, it's nearby. Breakfast and great conversations every morning, including excellent recommendations for a hike through nearby nature reserve and best places to shop and eat. I was in the unique situation of needing to be in Tualatin just outside of the city for a work meeting one day, then trying to meet up with friends at a pub in the city the next. Their place was in the perfect location to make both important meetings happen with no problems. I opted to walk around their neighborhood, through the nature reserve and into downtown (roughly 1.5 hour walk, perfect mix of nature and city), but there are many options for transit, including nearby bus stops and bikes Kip and Kristin have for guests to use. If you're a first timer to Portland or just love exploring this unique city, this is most definately the place you want to stay.

So you are visiting Portland huh? Well you've come to the right place. More than just a place to stay, we are committed to helping everyone get the most of their time here. We have made a full time cause of learning and experiencing the best of Portland's culture, be it food, nightlife outdoors or any of the myriad of "quirky" events that "keep Portland weird". Seriously, whether here for business or vacation, Portland is too much fun to miss out by staying in a hotel and not knowing what to do or where to go. We like biking, drinking beer, listening to local bands, going dancing, watching soccer, exploring the wilderness and participating in anything that is new and sounds fun! We enjoy our city every day and want to share that with you.
