Amed, East Bali
Amed refers to a number of small fishing villages on the east coast of Bali. It is a popular place for tourists wanting to experience the ‘real’ Balinese culture. There are many ceremonies held in Amed, and if you’re here for more than a few days, you might be lucky enough to get invited to attend one.
Popular activities in the area include fishing, snorkelling and diving at the two shipwrecks in the area.
To satisfy the ‘culture vulture’ in you, why not visit the Floating Palace of Taman Ujung, the water palace Tirtta Gangga and the Kings Palace in Amlapura? All can be reached in around 30 minutes from Amed.
How about a day trip to the famous Besakih Temple? A visit to a traditional Aga village can also be arranged. The Aga people are the original people of Bali and only two Aga Villages are left one of wish is an hours drive from Amed.
The more adventurous of you may enjoy an early morning climb of nearby Mount Agung to catch the sunrise.
Secret White Sand Beach
Any beach lovers will love a trip to the relatively unknown Virgin Beach or as it is locally known ‘white sand beach’, which can be reached in just under 1 hour.
By far the easiest way to get around the area is by scooter. We can organise rental for you and even a quick lesson. For those not wanting to put their driving skills to test on the Balinese roads, we can organise scooter taxi for you or a car and driver if you prefer.
Getting there and away
By far the easiest way to reach Amed is by taxi (contact us for excellent pick up rates). However, for the more adventurous travel it is possible to reach Amed by Bemo from Amlapura. Beware, however, that it may be a bumpy ride!
Interaction with Guests
At the moment been in late stages of pregnancy with a 2 year old to care for I unfortunately am not at the bungalows so much but always available by phone or email and staff are on hand to help too.
Very local area. You can really interact with locals and see their everyday activities such as them working the surrounding rice fields.
Best way to get about is to hire a bike or walk. Our staff are always happy to give you a lift locally and we can organise bike or car taxi for longer trips.
features 1 real bed and 1 sofabed
That's a most dirty and unpleasant place I've ever been. Maybe it could be deluxe when the house and the furniture were new.
There were a lot of flies, making eating outside impossible. Maybe because of piles of garbage around the place.
There was no garden, just a several dying plants in the rocks.
I couldn't imagine taking a bath there, it was very dirty. The floor was a bit sticky. There were white and red spots on bed sheets and gecko shit on the mosquito net.
Airbnb photos show much brighter and nicer place than it actually is. The room was really dark in daytime and light bulbs were dim.
Noise from the road was loud all the night.
There was no beach, only dirty shore full with fishermen's boats. Water was clear, but there was no place to get to water.
The only advantage are girls on reception who always smile.
It's not my first time in Asia, but this time I was terrified. I used to have much better place to stay for the money I paid.
We booked a month, but were very happy to leave after two days there. I had never seen Emma and she had a lot of excuses like a sick baby, lazy staff and even Indonesian education.
I can recommend the place only for people who want absolutely local experience.
i booked the luxury cottage for my parents. they were very unhappy. the staff was not helpful they did not get blankets for an air conditioned room. the water ran out while my mom was bathing. the garden was not well maintained. what was good was the location and character of the room. the host has left everything to the staff and my parents never met Emma.
I'm sorry I never met your parents but my 5 month old baby was sick!! I really think this was a very bad match for your parents and incidentally never before have guests asked for blankets for this room. Plus as from other reviews we have had excellent reviews about our staff they most certainly are not rude, in your private feedback you say staff smiled when your parents complained maybe you do not understand but Balinese always smile for very reason even during argue menya with other Balinese they still smile as it is considered bad to how any emotion such as anger upset etc.
When you say the water finished during your mums shower what actually happened was that your mum pressed the button which made the water come out if the tap and not the shower!
As is aid I think this was a bad match for your parents they were obviously expecting 5star for budget prices.
