The apartment is located in a historic landmark designed by famed architect Paul Revere Williams- The Luella Garvey House. The building itself is comprised of a few small apartments and 1 daytime private pediatric office.

Guest access
The private apartment and laundry facilities as needed. There is also a garden area for enjoying your morning coffee and having a picnic.

Other things to note
The Luella Garvey House...
Paul Revere Williams’ signature California architectural features: open balconies with ornamental iron railings, an elaborate entry staircase with iron work and carved wooden details, window seats, French doors, and numerous bedrooms. The master suite had five closets, a dressing room, and a vaulted ceiling bath tiled in yellow and pink with floral accents. This bedroom also had a small, vine covered porch with views of Mrs. Garvey’s extensive landscaping. Williams included a brick floored interior courtyard and patio with masonry arches that supported the roof and further integrated the outdoor and indoor spaces.

Although the building has been updated and renovated it remains true to Williams’ original design. With exception of the conversion of a patio into a parking space and the loss of some of the surrounding wall, the house looks much today as it did when Mrs. Garvey first entered the front door.

Credited as the first Paul R. Williams residence in Reno, the Garvey House is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Location

Reno, Nevada, United States

The Newlands Neighborhood is an area in Reno also known as the “old southwest”.
Many prominent homes were built here on a bluff overlooking the Truckee River, the first being the distinguished home of Francis G. Newlands, U.S. Senator and author of the National Reclamation Act of 1902. The Newlands Mansion was built in 1889 and is a National Historic
Landmark (across the street). This elegant neighborhood has been one of the city’s most sought after and desirable areas since the early twentieth century. As a result of Nevada's post-1900 mining booms, and a
concomitant influx of new wealth, Reno was able to recover from a long economic depression and prominent citizens began erecting residences in the fashionable neighborhoods near downtown. The earliest developments include the Rio Vista Heights and Riverside Heights areas, with the height of construction in those areas occurring between 1900 and 1910. The
majority of buildings in the Newlands Neighborhood, however, were constructed between the 1920s and 1930s. Several of the oldest buildings in Reno were built along Court Street and Elm Court and are visible from across the river at Riverside Park. The homes of prominent
Reno citizens and statesmen were built here, including those of Senator George S. Nixon, and
Patrick A. McCarran (directly across the street).

I was born and Raised here in Reno and love it here! I live and work right here in the urban core and stay very involved in its revitalization. We love the opportunity to host people from out of the area and allow them to see Reno through our lenses and understand why it is such a great place. Our property and the surrounding historic area offer something that a hotel just can't.
