Luxurious “Glamping” in the Heart of Yuba River Country

Venture to the heart of Yuba River Country and experience the rustic chic comfort of “glamping” (glamorous camping) in a 30’ Pacific Yurt. Taste the magic of simple living in the round…

Located on the North San Juan Ridge at the edge of Tahoe National Forest, endless outdoor activities abound. Enjoy incredible hiking, crystal-clear swimming holes and world-class mountain biking trails during summer and pristine snow-play areas away from the crowds during winter. Take in gorgeous scenic drives and numerous points of historical interest from California’s gold rush period. Discover the active gold mining town of Allegheny, the scenic beauty of Downieville or soak the afternoon away at Sierra Hot Springs in Sierraville. The village of Nevada City--with all it has to offer--is just 20 minutes away.

Or simply relax...

As much a nature blind as a dwelling, the yurt is located on 5 peaceful acres of mixed Oak and Madrone woodland with a filtered view of the Sierra foothills, a claw foot bath tub under the stars and much more. Light and airy with both propane and wood heat, the well-designed interior features a spacious kitchen, a comfy queen bed and a full bathroom. The kitchen is stocked for a cook with quality cooking equipment and is supplied with oils, sauces and spices. Tranquil, without phones or TV--but with WiFi—there are games and plenty of good books.

A perfect anytime retreat for two!

  • I had a nice short stay in the Yurt in early June '14. The setting is beautiful and the yurt itself is a practical alternative to a cabin, and feels much roomier than a traditional log building. The kitchen is well equipped and the seating and sleeping areas are comfortable. Everything was clean and in good condition. Check in and out were straightforward. Kathy & Jim were responsive to my questions and then left me well alone (which I prefer).

Although the track to the yurt is well maintained, I was glad I was in 4x4 and not a more flimsy road vehicle. Even though the windows are well screened, precautions against the very plentiful mosquitoes are essential. The children at the house next door can be a bit noisy, but there is a fair amount of woodland between which helps.

The woods themselves are absolutely lovely: this had the best local setting of any of the places I stayed in the Sierras, with the added bonus of a humming-bird nest not fifteen feet from the back porch, and early-morning visits from curious black-tailed deer.

  • jim and kathy's yurt is all you need and then a few extras that really make it the perfect place to stay while visiting the yuba. the outdoor bath tub was the real bonus for me. the sleeping was real comfy for a family of four - we all slept real well. kathy was great at communication leading up to our stay and she made sure all was good with us once we arrived. we will be back!

  • This yurt is so fun! It's tucked away and super remote. Perfect for a weekend getaway. It is serious glamping - the yurt has all the amenities you'd ever need.

  • My boyfriend and I spent 2 nights at the Yuba Yurt and it was wonderful! The spot really feels secluded (can't see any other buildings other than those on the property) yet is fairly easy to access. This would be a great spot to hang out for a few days of unwinding and relaxing, mixed in with a hike or two and maybe a bike ride if you're okay with some hills.

I'm a huge lover natural light, and was happily surprised to find that the Yuba Yurt has a giant circular skylight in the middle of it that bathes the whole yurt in wonderful daylight all day long! Kathy and Jim have also done a great job installing lights throughout the Yurt; unlike a lot of cabins I've been to it doesn't feel at all dark or gloomy at night.

    We'll definitely be back!

  • A well kept, beautiful yurt with large kitchen. The outdoor tub is perfect, especially on a moonlit night. The selection of books to read was wonderful too, and my brother and I enjoyed a hike (on one of the few rainy winter days this year) on the Sierra Buttes. Looking forward to staying here again.

  • The location is very secluded - feels like you're in the middle of the forest - and extremely quiet. Only a few miles from great hiking and swim spots on the South Yuba, and other excitements along Highway 49 like Nevada City, Downieville and beyond. The yurt itself is well appointed - kitchen is fully equipped, bed is comfortable, lots of seating, great wood stove, etc - although everything is a bit dated and some of the fittings are past their prime. We had some minor issues on arrival that Kathy & Jim (the hosts) addressed extremely promptly and generously, so this is definitely a well managed place. It's a good deal for the price, particularly given the collective insanity that is B&B and cottage prices in the area, but any more than 2-3 people would be a squeeze. All in all, a great base for outdoor activities in Sierra County.

  • If you've never stayed in a yurt you owe it to yourself! Jim and Kathy's description of "glamorous camping" is very accurate. You get all the comforts of home while being surrounded (literally) by wilderness. Very noticeable and pleasant were the sounds of leaves and acorns falling on and rolling off the yurt. I was there in the middle of Fall. Having high speed wifi was nice as it allows one to enter "civilization" if desired. Lastly, Jim and Kathy were very attentive to any concerns I had. I heartily recommend this unique rental.

  • The Yurt at Riversea is the perfect spot for relaxation. It is spacious, wonderfully comfortable, well stocked and private while only 20 minutes away from all that Yuba County has to offer. The owners have provided lots of information about the area and all the instructions needed to use the yurt. While certainly rustic, pretty much everything has been well thought out. I can no longer camp, and the yurt preserves the feel of camping with the luxury of a soft bed, hot water and wifi! I hope to return.

  • we enjoyed our stay, the yurt is in a nice secluded area, nice for truly unplugging and close to the various yuba river swimming holes. the only downsides were that the bed was firmer than we find comfortable, so after 4 nights we were happy to be headed home to our own bed. and we'd recommend that the owners think about replacing the curtain across the bathroom doorway with an actual door to give the bathroom some sort of privacy.

  • This yurt was magical! I had every intention of leaving to explore the Yuba River, but once I arrived, I never wanted to leave the yurt. It was beautiful and spacious and made my girlfriend's 30th birthday a huge success!
note to others: if you are scared of spiders or mice--it is a bit rustic and not for the timid.
