The Space

The house has got an "Old Tahoe" charm with updated amenities. The Truckee River is the main attraction and the house has been updated to take full advantage of the views and the sound. There's a beautiful garden with access to swim in the river. in Winter, access to Squaw Valley Ski area is becomes primary with a1.5 mile drive to the slopes. On a private road so snow removal is done on site by a contractor who lives on the street. No delay on a powder day waiting for the county snow plow to clear the road!!

Guest Access

The house has everything a cozy family friendly home should have...3 TVs one with DVD player. The hot tub is right on the river and not to be missed. There's a private washer/dryer accessible through a covered walkway. Walking and hiking are available from the house with no need to drive. The Western States Trail is down the road as is the bike path to Tahoe City or into Squaw Valley.

Interaction with Guests

We are a silent, supportive, friendly presence only and don't interact with guests unless invited to do so.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood has the feel of a "gated" community with no (email hidden)y a bridge! The bridge over the Truckee River seems to add an "over the river and through the woods" quality. We know all our neighbors and they know us. We know when a dog is a stray or a new guy from down the street. It's sweet!

Getting around

We are 1 hr from Reno airport, and we aren't over any passes so even in snow, usually if you can get to Reno, you can get here. You may want to rent an all wheel drive vehicle in Winter. There are shuttles to/from the airport from a resort in Squaw Valley but you'd have to get a taxi from there and all in all having a car is recommended. There is a bus stop across 89 from River Road at the entrance to Squaw Valley Road. The bus goes to Squaw Valley, Tahoe City, Tahoma, Truckee and Incline Village...weather permitting. Parking is available on the premises. There are 2 spaces in a car port and spaces for 3 more cars outside near the house. The road is narrow so no parking on the road.

Other Things to Note

One important detail is that here in Placer County, CA we have a 10% TOT (transient occupancy tax). So, please keep that in mind when calculating the cost of your trip.
Also, the Truckee River is unpredictable...as rivers are...but more so because the river level here is dictated by the water needs down river in Floriston Nevada, near Reno. As a result, when going into the river BE CAREFUL! The water level can vary from day to day. All of the sudden, what was a calm pool on a beautiful day yesterday can be a raging whirl on a beautiful day today. Oh, and the fly fishing is outstanding...but don't tell anyone :)

About
I'm an avid outdoors person...although I don't downhill ski! Tried it...like cross/back country better. My husband and I have lived in the Lake Tahoe area for over 20 years. It truly is paradise! Hiking and biking are my favorite pass times in the Summer. I've lived here so long I know all the good spots. Skiing and snow shoeing in Winter...and cooking. I don't cook much in the Summer but those snowy days just seem to call for being creative!
