About this listing
Glen Rose, about an hours drive from either Dallas or Fort Worth, has the reputation for being a sleepy little town at the edge of the Hill Country. In most cases, that's an apt description. It's definitely a great place to recuperate, recharge, renew, relax and reflect. It's also a great place to vacation, dine and kick up your heels if you know where to go!
Our very secluded country retreat is perfect for your base of operations. It boasts a quick ten minute drive to the entrance of Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, the 1700 acre drive-through zoo featuring giraffes, exotic animals and even some rhinos. Fossil Rim is perfect for the young and young at heart. We're also just a few miles from Dinosaur World and just minutes from dining and shopping in historic downtown Glen Rose.
We have a wonderful king size bed (Sleep Number bed) downstairs in the Master Bedroom and a very comfortable queen-sized bed upstairs in the guest suite. We also have two (brand new) very comfortable twin beds upstairs to accommodate two additional guests (adults or kids) if needed. The downstairs bath features an over-sized shower while the upstairs bath has a tub/shower combination.
The home sits on 12+ heavily wooded acres and has a HUGE patio and lots of seating (both rocking chairs plus a picnic table) for guests. The indoor dining table seats ten comfortably and the full-sized kitchen is nicely equipped (or so my wife tells me).
Spectacular views from the family room and both porches make this a wonderful place for seclusion and tranquility.
Perfect for family get-togethers, scrapbooking weekends and the like, this secluded home comfortably seats over 35 people indoors and out, with eating facilities for over 20 at a time.
As a side note, if you love to drive (or, live to ride), Glen Rose is an amazing area to enjoy. Do a web search for car/motorcycle/bicycle tour suggestions in and around Glen Rose and you'll find many breakfast runs, afternoon rides and breath-taking evening tours that are Hill Country spectacular! As a side note to this, our home is located RIGHT ON the infamous "Paluxy Pedal" cycle circuit in October. If you are a participant, book early!
The entire home is open to you, including a complete kitchen, laundry room, ironing board and iron as well as full dining area.

We had a great time near Glen Rose, the house is clean, comfortable, well supplied and boasts fantastic seating and views. Nelson was a great host, would highly recommend.
Nelson was a great host! His home is even more beautiful than the pictures and the perfect size for five girls to get away fro the city. We couldn't have had a better experience, thank you Nelson for thinking of the little things and providing us with your awesome recommendations!
Wonderful place. We were glad to find everything as described and all items with the home in great shape. Loved the grounds and the surrounding countryside!! My son and I biked 45 miles around the area and had a blast....beautiful country roads with hills and ranches everywhere. We visited Glen Rose for lunch and dinner ...were pleased with both. Took all the kids (adults now ) to Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, they all had fun feeding every animal they could get to come to the car. We will be back to this area again!!!
The house was great and the snacks were too. The location of this house is perfect. We enjoyed the town and the suggestions our host made. We will be back to Glenrose again in the future. My kids managed to leave behind their clothes and our host promptly sent them. This is a beautiful, quiet and serene location.
First off, Nelson is a fantastic host. He was very easy to communicate with and always responded back very quickly. He provided several methods of getting in touch with him - and we definitely felt confident about renting his space.
Second, this property is amazing! We were two couples (both with little babies) staying at this house. It was gigantic - a grand central room with a large table and lots of comfy seating. The house was immaculate, and we were even provided nice touches - coffee and other snacks, toiletries in case we forgot something, sodas and bottled water, etc. We felt very welcomed. I appreciated the ease of using a security code to unlock the front door. The house also had a pack & play and high chair, which is a nice touch for those with kids.
The property is off a back road near Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. It is some distance from the road and gated, which made us all feel very secure. It is a quiet property -and yet Glen Rose is just a short drive (5-10 minutes) away. We went to the Loco Coyote (twice), Hollywood Vine, Dinosaur Valley State Park, and Fossil Rim. This property was the perfect home base for all of us. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!
Nelson and CJ have created the perfect magical get-away-from-it-all retreat! We have never felt so much at home in a vacation house before. Attention to every single detail has been made with love and good taste. We loved the celebration of the West in the theme of the décor. The most amazing wall of windows had me absolutely hypnotized - I felt like I could sit and gaze out of it for the rest of my life! The house really does cast a spell over you, making you want to slow down and relax. The beds were the most comfortable we have ever slept on in a vacation rental. This home has some amazing museum-worthy collections and also a library of classics that would take you a few years to read your way through (thought I'd died and went to heaven!). The whole place was spotlessly clean with good quality linens, towels, dinnerware, cookware, etc. It sure was hard to leave when the time came. Nelson and CJ should get some kind of trophy for being the most outstanding hosts ever! Thank you both so much! The Bradys will be back!!
Our group of friends (all under 30) wanted a quiet, secluded place to go for the weekend that was a reasonable drive from Dallas and we were very lucky to find this place.
The home is still within minutes of "civilization" as Glen Rose is really charming (with all the dinosaur kitsch) and the ownerleft some really good recommendations on places to eat and things to do.
But the highlight was the home. It felt like an actual home and it was very personal. It's a large open floorplan so it was easy to communicate with everyone. It has large windows that nearly provide a 360 degree of the property; there is plenty of outside sitting areas with wooden rocking chairs. We spent many hours just enjoying the cool Texas weather on the patio, rocking the night away.
Nelson leaves plenty of snacks in the pantry and even was thoughtful enough to leave a large basket of toiletry items such as shaving stuff, toothbrush and toothpaste. He really thought of everything.
The home is really kid-friendly (he even has plastic cups with lids) - the home is tiled so no issues with the accidental spill. There is satellite tv but I don't think it was turned on once. Definitely no wi-fi and very limited cell signal. Enough to make a phone call or send a text or two but not enough signal strength for Facebook.
We didn't see any creatures on the property and the grass is cut so short we could have seen anything sneaking up on us. We walked around the property - not a lot to get into but it was nice to walk around.
The home is within minutes of Fossil Rim so we did that. We also ventured out to Granbury for the Revolver Brewery. It was about a 50 minute drive but was really easy to get to.
This home is perfect for families and pet friendly. But can also be great for a group of 29 year olds just wanting to get away from the city.
I would highly recommend this home without hesitation.

About the Host, Nelson
My name is Nelson Roberts and I would be pleased to have you enjoy any of my relaxing country homes.
I am a supplier of cool consumer electronic products to large retailers like RadioShack, Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club et al. It keeps my weeks (and most weekends) pretty busy, so when I get a chance to relax, I retreat to Glen Rose! It's small-town charm with lots to do.
I collect antique office equipment (typewriters, adding machines, check protectors and the like) and our homes reflect my love of books
