Glen Rose, about an hours drive from either Dallas or Fort Worth, has the reputation for being a sleepy little town at the edge of the Hill Country. In most cases, that's an apt description. It's definitely a great place to recuperate, recharge, renew, relax and reflect. It's also a great place to vacation, dine and kick up your heels if you know where to go!
Our very secluded country retreat is perfect for your base of operations. It boasts a quick ten minute drive to the entrance of Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, the 1700 acre drive-through zoo featuring giraffes, exotic animals and even some rhinos. Fossil Rim is perfect for the young and young at heart. We're also just a few miles from Dinosaur World and just minutes from dining and shopping in historic downtown Glen Rose.
We have a wonderful king size bed (Sleep Comfort number bed) downstairs in the Master Bedroom and a very comfortable queen-sized bed upstairs in the guest suite. We also have two (brand new) very comfortable twin beds upstairs to accommodate two additional guests (adults or kids) if needed. The downstairs bath features an over-sized shower while the upstairs bath has a tub/shower combination.
The home sits on 12+ heavily wooded acres and has a HUGE patio and lots of seating (both rocking chairs plus a picnic table) for guests. The indoor dining table seats ten comfortably and the full-sized kitchen is nicely equipped (or so my wife tells me).
Spectacular views from the family room and both porches make this a wonderful place for seclusion and tranquility.
Perfect for family get-togethers, scrapbooking weekends and the like, this secluded home comfortably seats over 35 people indoors and out, with eating facilities for over 20 at a time.
As a side note, if you love to drive (or, live to ride), Glen Rose is an amazing area to enjoy. Do a web search for car/motorcycle/bicycle tour suggestions in and around Glen Rose and you'll find many breakfast runs, afternoon rides and breath-taking evening tours that are Hill Country spectacular! As a side note to this, our home is located RIGHT ON the infamous "Paluxy Pedal" cycle circuit in October. If you are a participant, book early!

Our group of friends (all under 30) wanted a quiet, secluded place to go for the weekend that was a reasonable drive from Dallas and we were very lucky to find this place.
The home is still within minutes of "civilization" as Glen Rose is really charming (with all the dinosaur kitsch) and the ownerleft some really good recommendations on places to eat and things to do.
But the highlight was the home. It felt like an actual home and it was very personal. It's a large open floorplan so it was easy to communicate with everyone. It has large windows that nearly provide a 360 degree of the property; there is plenty of outside sitting areas with wooden rocking chairs. We spent many hours just enjoying the cool Texas weather on the patio, rocking the night away.
Nelson leaves plenty of snacks in the pantry and even was thoughtful enough to leave a large basket of toiletry items such as shaving stuff, toothbrush and toothpaste. He really thought of everything.
The home is really kid-friendly (he even has plastic cups with lids) - the home is tiled so no issues with the accidental spill. There is satellite tv but I don't think it was turned on once. Definitely no wi-fi and very limited cell signal. Enough to make a phone call or send a text or two but not enough signal strength for (website hidden).
We didn't see any creatures on the property and the grass is cut so short we could have seen anything sneaking up on us. We walked around the property - not a lot to get into but it was nice to walk around.
The home is within minutes of Fossil Rim so we did that. We also ventured out to Granbury for the Revolver Brewery. It was about a 50 minute drive but was really easy to get to.
This home is perfect for families and pet friendly. But can also be great for a group of 29 year olds just wanting to get away from the city.
I would highly recommend this home without hesitation.
What an outstanding place for a get away. We enjoyed our anniversary stay, surrounded by all the beauty of the secluded woods. If you need a place to get away from everything, I would highly recommend it. Our host, Nelson Roberts, was a joy to work with and all the information supplied, about the property and surrounding area, was most helpful.

My friends and I were attending a wedding at the Rough Creek Lodge, but unfortunately as poor medical students, we could not afford to stay at the lodge. Nelson's home provided the perfect alternative, and Nelson was a fantastic host. His home is so warm and welcoming, and the house manual Nelson provided had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The location was great, and this has been one of my top airbnb experiences. I definitely recommend staying at his place when you're in Glen Rose.
Well, hello comforting solitude. We tucked ourselves away (again) at the Nelson home along with the owls we heard every night and the crows on our morning walks. We cooked and baked and slowed down. We are so grateful to the Nelson's - to their hospitality and immense hearts in sharing their home. We had everything we needed - and just like our last visit - it was hard to leave. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Your home is like coming home.
I was very impressed with the accomidations of the house. It was nice that the owners had left appliances and dishes for us to use. The owners even left some essential food items.
The layout of the house was awesome. I felt like all of us were able to share our time together but still able to retreat to our bedrooms for some privacy. The house was also well maintained, decorated, and very clean. Money well spent!!!!
Wonderful experience. Private, secluded, beautiful inside and out. Definitely recommend for quiet couples getaway or family vacation. We stayed there with our 7 and 10 year old daughters on family vacation. Lots to do in the Glen Rose area and the home was perfect.
What an amazing location. Everything we expected and more. This is a beautiful property with all of the comforts of home and top notch amenities to boot. The attention to detail is impeccable and the décor is charming. This one is five stars all the way!
My family and I had another amazing time at Nelson's getaway! This time we were able to arrive earlier than before, enjoying the scenery and a few local hotspots for dinner and dessert. The place was beautiful as before, clean, and very well kept. It was a nice time away from the normal busy city life! Thanks Nelson!
What a fabulous place!! We only stayed for 2 nites/3 days and wish we had stayed longer. The local, out the front gate, roads are fantastic for motorcycle cruising. Little to no traffic, ideal road conditions for biking, great S turns, hills, beautiful scenery and views of pure hill country. Could have spent many days cruising/exploring.
The house and grounds are beautiful, very secluded, private and quiet! Saw a couple of deer in the yard while sitting in the family room with an OMG view out the south facing windows. This place is even better than it appears on the web site. Master bedroom is very spacious and has a richly appointed library room attached and a Sleep Number bed. The house is filled with historic memorabilia of local Texas history (books, pictures, maps, documents, and artwork). It also has everything you need to cook and live enjoyably (provide your own food though).
The drive to Glen Rose is an easy and scenic drive of 10-15 minutes, and has plenty of nice resturants. The "drive thru" Fossill Rim Wildlife Park (huge acreage) is on the way to town (giraffes, rhinos and buffalo, etc) and is worth a tour.
Nelson is an excellent host.....very professional, friendly and always wants to please. We highly recommend Nelson and his outstanding property!! Bob and Carolyn
Our best family vacation and a total steal for the price! We went for a week in the spring with our five year old and sixteen month old, and felt that Nelson and CJ's place gave us our first chance since the baby was born to just relax and be together. The lovely home, scenic grounds, and proximity to local attractions kept us entertained without ever having to go more than a couple of miles--several days we never even left the house. Perhaps most tellingly, while I usually look frazzled, wild eyed, and hunched over from chasing littles, I looked fabulous the whole time we were at the property even with no makeup. My hair did right and my skin looked refreshed. It is a magical kind of place.
The home itself is exceptionally open, airy, and well appointed. It is cohesively decorated with fascinating elements around every corner, like an antique barber chair, a gracious library, and framed art and mementos. Nelson and CJ are warm hosts who make you feel like a visiting friend rather than a paying customer, and their thoughtfulness is apparent throughout the house. There is hand lotion by every sink, kleenex and magazines where you want them, notes to help you navigate the home, lights on dimmers, strategically placed night lights, and innumerable helpful extras like a cooler in the pantry in case you forgot to bring one for a picnic and plastic cups with lids for kids. It is first and foremost their home, and is not a sparsely appointed rental property
The property works well for children. The large fenced acreage gave my five year old plenty of things to do without ever having to leave the house, and the large verandas on both sides visible from the kitchen made it possible for me to do dishes and laundry while he played with his trucks right outside. Nelson and CJ even have a couple of kids' videos, coloring books and the like to make children feel welcome. There are two areas to be aware of with littles: the open staircase to the loft and the railing upstairs with very wide spaced pickets. We kept the baby out with little trouble by blockading the stairs with some of the numerous dining room chairs and were prepared to strengthen that defense by lashing the chairs together with rope, and stringing rope in between the pickets upstairs, but my kids did not make much effort to violate the nobody-goes-upstairs-without-a parent rule. If you have a toddler, bring a pack of large rubber bands to temporarily kidproof the cabinets.
All in all, it is a place where time slips away and togetherness rules. I hope to return soon.
