Our Koa Cabin is a spacious hideaway one mile up a paved mountain road. At 2,100 ft, it's cool and private, far from any traffic sounds, next to a forest, and well-equipped on our 3.5 acre farm. Restaurants, swimming and snorkeling are a short drive away.
The cabin consists of a private spacious living room with TV, DVD, and wifi. A couch can be opened into a double bed, for a third person. Upstairs is a super-comfortable queen-sized 16" memory foam mattress. The kitchen is well-equipped with a full fridge, propane two-plate stove and oven, microwave, etc. Outside there is a barbeque area and Polynesian gazebo.
If you're coming to Hawaii you want the ocean and the many other activities the islands offer. The cabin is away from the crowds but close enough to get downtown in about 20 minutes. Beautiful beaches line the coast all the way to Waimea. There are great restaurants within a mile or two of the cabin.
Interaction with Guests
We provide homemade bread, fresh farm eggs, fruit, and other goodies to get you started. Jeffrey is an enthusiastic table tennis player and will either play with you or give you a lesson (at no charge, of course). We are easily reached in the main house but do not intrude on the privacy of our guests.
Kailua-Kona has poor public transportation, and we live up a mile long mountain road, so having your own car is essential. You don't need a 4-wheel drive to get to us; it's paved all the way.
This cabin is charming! The tropical fruits fresh from the grounds are a nice feature. The cabin is rustic but well appointed... You only need to bring yourselves and clothes for your trip. Jeffrey and Heide are kind hosts who made our anniversary special from greeting us with leis, fresh bread, farm fresh eggs and a beautiful platter of fruits and jams to supplementing the homemade jams with Lillikoi when they discovered the fruit had become our favorite. The cabin is very private, and Heide and Jeffrey are just present enough to make sure everything is running smoothly for you. You could not choose a better location, rustic cabin, or host for an escape to Hawaii for a special occasion.
What a beautiful and romantic hideaway! The location was perfect for taking trips to Captain Cook, Kona, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (the place of refuge), even South point. It was dangerous that we were so close to Discovery Antiques and their incomparable, hand scooped Tropical Dreams ice cream! This "little" cabin is really quite spacious and so well appointed, every detail thoughtful and meticulous from the fresh baked bread, lilikoi and dragon fruit jellies, beautiful tropical fruits and splendid Kona coffee. Our hosts, Jeffrey and Heide, were wonderful, kind, and thorough insuring that we had directions to their lovely cabin and ideas about the things we could do during our stay. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We stayed at several different locations around the big island, but this beautiful and romantic getaway home was by far our favorite!
Jeffrey and Heide have lived in Hawaii for 25 years. We both work in the mental health field and have done so for many years. We have two daughters who live in Massachusetts, and we have two grandchildren. Heide loves art and is connected to Donkey Mill, an art center in Holualoa. Jeffrey plays competitive table tennis. We have three gentle dogs, a cat, a few sheep, and some chickens who generously give us their eggs. We love Hawaii.
