We stayed at Lizzie's house for one night and it was the perfect place for us! We rented the one bedroom but ended up having the whole house to ourselves! It was great waking up and enjoying the sunshine on the back deck. Lizzie was very helpful, friendly, easy to communicate with, and accommodating.
I unfortunately did not get to stay at this property due to a few hitches in communication (down internet (host) & lack of phone access (guest)). The host did attempt to contact me by Air BnB (after several hours following my arrival) but I had located a hotel by then. I hope this would have worked differently if I had more time to wait but trip was very brief and time was of the essence. I would have loved to stay with a local and get some insight but did not work out as an ideal situation. It appears to have worked out for others so hope this was an isolated issue. The host has made an offer to resolve the situation so I hope I may have "a place to lay my head" in the event I return to Belize City.
Lizzie's home is beautiful and in a local neighborhood that is close to the airport. We had the whole top floor to ourselves, with a kitchen we used to cook breakfast.
Make SURE that your cab driver knows where you're going before you get there, it's a little tucked away and hard to find. Make sure to write down her description of the building. Other than that, Lizzie is lovely, fun and friendly woman, and her cousin took us clubbing which was so fun! Great night :)
Lizzie is an extremely hospitable host! I am grateful for the time she took to orient me in Belize City. Spent my days on the Cayes which are accessible by boat from the city. It's a high value accommodation for the amount of space you get. Ate my morning meals at a hotel that's about 3 blocks away. Great deal.
Lizzie's room in Belize city is the only place you need to stay when you visit town. It's gorgeous, away from the big hotels and full of life. I only wish we had more time there. As an added bonus, we met Lizzie, and she was gracious, excited and full of love for her country. It made our stay that much more comfortable. Thanks so much Lizzie!
