Enter 'The Portal;' located between the kitchen and the art space. Part art storage, part cozy sitting room, and all character - this room is perfect for those of you who are on a budget, but still want to experience our beautiful heritage home in Old Strathcona!

The Space

Built in 1912 by Strathcona's first mayor, William Sheppard, this stately mansion is now an oasis of culture, filled with dynamic, spirited individuals - ready to welcome you into our home!

Enjoy a massage from one of our on-site masseuses, lounge and chat in our sun-soaked community room, or utilize one of our art studios and unleash your creative side! Explore our luxuriant garden on your way out to stroll around Old Strathcona, Edmonton's premier arts district, and come home to opulence and comfort. Walk the river valley trails and watch the sunset over Edmonton's brightly lit downtown core, and relax your muscles afterwards in a rejuvenating steam shower. Wake up early and wander down to the one of many cafés scattered walking distance from our beautiful brick abode, and taste some of Edmonton's finest coffee and baked goods.

Guest Access

Amenities include free wifi, access to our community kitchen resources, steam shower, claw foot bath, access to our community library and many cozy reading nooks, and much more!

The Neighborhood

Check out the calendar of events in Old Strathcona & see why they call Edmonton the city of festivals! Or walk Whyte Ave and experience Edmonton's most unique shopping experience. Enjoy drinks and appetizers on the patio at one of Whyte's many top-notch bistros or special-interest restaurants.

Old Strathcona is one of Edmonton's most sought-after neighbourhoods, and it's easy to see why! Our incredibly walkable area allows guests to explore without the headache of parking, and get the most out of any time spent here. Lush, old-growth trees line the streets, and gorgeous architecture invites you to wonder about the history of the area.

Getting around

We are lucky enough to be located in a very central area, with readily accessible public transit - you can get to most areas in Edmonton easily by bus or LRT.

Other Things to Note

Of note: we have 6 cats, 3 snakes, 4 aquariums, and a plethora of plants. While wonderfully full of life, we understand that it can be less wonderful for people with certain allergies or aversions. Two of the kitties are mostly outdoor, and the rest can be kept out of your room at your request, so we are able to host people with a lesser degree of allergy, but it all depends! The snakes are all kept in private bedrooms in secure enclosures, so there is no danger of unwanted encounters. If you are feeling brave, one of the snake owners can bring out one of our serpentine friends for you to hold! Our biggest aquarium (48 gallons) is located in the sunroom, surrounded by plush couches and our community library - chillin' with the fishies is one of everyone's favourite past times! Our sunroom and certain bedrooms have plants in them, but they are fairly innocuous and shouldn't trigger any allergies. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me to discuss how we can make your stay perfectly comfortable and absolutely amazing!

  • This is an amazing place to stay, and the hosts are some of the most lovely people I've ever met. They are actively working to create a warm, peaceful and welcoming atmosphere for themselves and their guests, and succeed hugely in doing so. I felt very at home in their space, and actually came away from the stay feeling rejuvenated and centered. This place has the magic combination of an incredible house (steam shower, fireplace, sun room...!) and genuinely hospitable people.

I highly recommend this place to anyone coming through Edmonton, and really hope I get another chance to stay with them.

  • I enjoyed my stay in Healing Arts Heritage House. Company of artists who live there was amazing. This place would be my first preference of stay whenever I visit Edmonton again. The place is close to the downtown area and it has great value. Thanks to all the artists for giving me such a loving company. I recommend this place to the airB&B travelers.
