Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Tannenhaus is situated in the hills above Johnson village, and is central to skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking and many other activities. Its only a 1 minute walk to the Fledermaus Teahouse, 10 minute walk to Journey's End swimming hole, 1 mile to Northern Vermont University, 1.5 miles into Johnson and the Vermont Studio Center. Its a 20 minute drive to Smugglers Notch, 25 min to Stowe and 45 min to Jay Peak. Its a perfect spot for those looking for a quiet getaway in the hills of Vermont.

The space
Tannenhaus is a fully furnished, cozy house tucked away in a quiet wooded neighborhood in the hills above Johnson village, in the heart of the Green Mountains of Vermont. It has a generous open floor plan with kitchen, dining area and living room, and spacious full bath. One large (24' x 28') sunny master bedroom upstairs (with room darkening window blinds and a window A/C unit in the summer months) with two full-size beds, and one smaller (11' x 11') cozy and private downstairs bedroom with two twin beds and its own entrance at the back of the house.
Note: the base price given per night is for the first two guests; any additional guests will incur extra charges of $25/person per night as laid out at time of booking.

The walk-out basement facing the woods has a washer and dryer with and additional clothes drying rack; laundry detergent and unscented dryer sheets are provided. Fishing gear, luggage, bicycles, or skis and snowshoes can also be comfortably stored in the ample space.
We offer free WiFi, satellite TV, books and games for entertainment.

Guest access
Our guests have full access to the entire house. It is a free standing building with its own driveway and parking space surrounded by its own yard.
Across and at the other end of the yard stands a unique Post and Beam Barn that is home to a European teahouse.

Other things to note
During May through October we operate the Fledermaus Teahouse ((URL HIDDEN) a European-styled cafe situated on the same grounds as Tannenhaus, and a great place to enjoy teas, coffees and confections during your stay. Although the tea house is nearby, it is far enough away and has no effect on the privacy or solitude of your stay at Tannenhaus.
We love seeing our guests making use of the close proximity and enjoy an afternoon treat or supper at our teahouse. It is a BYOB establishment, so bring your wine or beer with you.

Journey's End, a protected and conserved waterfall and swimming hole, is accessed directly from our property by a 10 minute walk along a path through the woods. It is on the Foote Brooke, which also offers excellent fly fishing opportunities (fishing licenses available at the Johnson town office).
Tannenhaus is situated on a 3 mile dirt road loop that is very popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists. The route follows the Foote Brook, offering more swimming holes, and rises to a hilltop farm of wide open fields and spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Green Mountains. History fans will enjoy a stop along the way to explore a historic town cemetery.
A quick drive or a 30 minute walk downhill brings you into Johnson village to explore the local shops and galleries of the Vermont Studio Center, or to stock up at the supermarket, or organic Farm Stand just outside of town.
Turning uphill it is a quick drive or comfortable walk to the Center for America's First Horse, an equine sanctuary dedicated to the preservation of the original Spanish Mustangs that were brought here by the Spanish Conquistadors. Their herd is the largest of its kind in all of the United States; visitors are always welcome.

But most of all, we invite our guests to spend some time in the spacious backyard and lovingly created gardens. Our daylily garden is ablaze with color from June through September and we carefully provide an environment for pollinators, wild birds, squirrels, and other critters.

My husband and I are excited to host and welcome travelers from around the world and share with them our peaceful Vermont experience. Everything about us and Tannenhaus breathes mindfulness, quietude, immersion and enjoyment of the beautiful nature surroundings. We even provide two rescue cats to help our guests with that relaxation project. Folks can watch them play in and patrol the gardens during the daytime, and are invited to make new friends. (Kitties are indoors after dark) I am an avid reader and can usually be found either reading or in my kitchen, or in the garden, or reading. I'd like to do some knitting but our cats are a little too eager to help so I stick to reading and virtual Solitaire on the laptop. Glenn and I are both pretty laid back and can typically be found somewhere around the place always happy to stop for a chat and point guests towards some new place to discover and explore. We lead a mostly vegan lifestyle and incorporate that mindset into our lives as much as possible. We also do not allow any hunting or trapping on our land.
