Private room and bath in an elegant century-old flat
Nineteenth-century finesse -- 11-foot ceilings, spacious principal rooms with elaborate wainscoting, period furniture -- meets contemporary comfort in Vancouver's downtown core. Our home is situated just above Coal Harbour's lively waterfront promenade and sculpture gardens, and a short walk from the Vancouver Convention Centre, Vancouver Art Gallery, Robson Street, the central business district, Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium, English Bay, Chinatown, Gastown, Yaletown, and Vancouver's colourful Davie Street gay village. If you venture farther, public transit, literally at the front door, puts the entire city within easy reach. And if you come by car, there is ample on-street parking.
It would be hard to find a better location for your Vancouver visit. (The Shangri-La hotel chain certainly likes the neighbourhood -- it built its new five-star luxury hotel tower half a block away.)
Your private room is small but cozy, a snug and peaceful retreat overlooking a fountain courtyard ringed with magnolia and cherry trees. Amenities include a brand new pillow-top double bed, adjacent bathroom with an over-sized claw-foot bathtub and shower, WiFi, and use of the flat's large drawing room, 4,000-volume library, and dining room. There is a piano in your room, for whenever musical inspiration strikes. And the apartment comes complete with a kindly and well-mannered five-year-old English mastiff named Hugo; a giant puppy whose friendly 'hellos' have made him a neighbourhood celebrity.
Our number one goal is to make your visit to Vancouver a happy one, providing you with a home away from home that is restful, serene, secure, and genial.
About your host:
I have lived and worked in Vancouver for 30 years as a professional writer and editor, watching the city evolve past its Anglo-European roots to become Canada's most culturally diverse community. I'll be happy to answer all of your questions about vacationing here — or elsewhere in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. If this is your first visit to Vancouver I can help you get the most out of your holiday with advice and suggestions about where to go, what to see and do, which restaurants and nightspots to try, museums and galleries to visit, beaches, day hikes, special events; and if you've been before, perhaps I can help place the city in a fresh context, with background on its history, ethnography, politics and arts.
Michael was a wonderful and very friendly host, his place is lovely and very comfortable. We would clearly recommend him to anyone and stay with him again if we have the opportunity. Thanks for everything.
We had a good experience with Michael in Vancouver. The room has a very comfortable bed and there were fresh flowers in our room upon arrival, in the hallway and washroom which was very refreshing. Michael was very welcoming and eager to aid us with travel suggestions. He even suggested places to go in Victoria, where we went before going to Vancouver. We had some days of snowy/stormy weather in Vancouver and Michael welcomed us to lounge in the drawing room which was much appreciated. It was also nice to come home everyday to greet Hugo, the largest dog we have ever met. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
Michael is a great host and his home full of charm. Located in an upmarket part of town with easy access to everything.
What a great place to stay ! We enjoyed our stay very much at Edwardian allure in Coal Harbour. Our host Michael was welcoming, gracious and we had a lovely visit over a glass of sherry. Hugo is a big puppy and we enjoyed his company as well. If you're looking for a convenient, affordable and enjoyable place to stay in Vancouver, this is it. We highly recommend staying with Michael.
I had the pleasure of renting the room in Michael's apartment with 'Edwardian allure'. It is magnificently decorated with all manner of interesting books, antique furniture and beautiful clocks. The building itself has a lot of character and is a true landmark; it is very conveniently located, with great restaurants, grocery options and a BC Liquor store all within a stone's throw. Michael was most accommodating and was not only a wonderful host, but proved to be a great conversationalist as well. Thank-you Michael, I enjoyed the stay very much and sincerely appreciate all of the useful information you shared.
Michael's place was lovely and in a very convenient location. Michael was very accommodating and more than happy to help me with any questions I I had. My trip was great and I would highly recommend staying with Michael if you're looking for a place in Vancouver.
The apartment was cozy and beautiful and the location was right downtown very close to everything. The room was very cozy as well as being equipped with a with a great little library. Michael was great! He was very welcoming and generous with his knowledge of the city and his home. I would defiantly stay with Michael and Hugo again!
We miss Hugo the major-domo already.
Michael is a wonderful host. From being really responsive, beyond considerate, and intuitively contacting us ahead of time before our stay, we were really happy staying here.
Location is well placed; we were able to walk everywhere we needed from the apartment.
Michael is such a great guy with an equally awesome dog. He was very accommodating, helpful, and engaging. I would strongly recommend staying with him if you are in the Vancouver area!
Michael and Hugo are the ultimate hosts and "Edwardian Allure in Coal Harbor" is the perfect place for a Vancouver vacation. We made our reservations 8 months in advance and Michael was always, instantly, in touch. He was very responsive and answered all of our questions and even offered up his personal guide to the city. We arrived with few actual plans and relied entirely on Michael's suggestions.
My advice: Listen to Michael's suggestions. He won't lead you astray! We had the best time and saw Vancouver through the eyes of a true local.
The other best part about "Edwardian Allure in Coal Harbor" is its location. Right in the heart of the financial district you are only a few blocks from the water and Robson Street (tons of restaurants and nightlife) and art museums. You are a short walk to Stanley Park and Gastown. There is no better place to be in Vancouver.
The room itself is cozy and quiet. Michael goes out of his way to give you privacy and space. He provided us with everything we needed: maps, guides, even soap and towels! While we tried to be good guests and stay out of the way, we couldn't keep ourselves from admiring the many books and paintings throughout the space.
I could go on forever about our time in Vancouver. It was a dream and we are already planning a trip back to "Edwardian Allure." I cannot recommend it enough.
