A quiet and peaceful room in the Sunset Hill area of Ballard in a neighborhood setting. Plenty of street parking, lots of great reviews. You are welcome to use the well equipped kitchen and any of the living areas of this large 100 year old home.
Sunset Hills is in an area of northwest Seattle known as Ballard. Ballard was called "Snoose Junction" until about 20 years ago when it started becoming hip. It still has its Scandinavian roots, funkiness, and continues as a working fishing port (where the Deadliest Catch boats leave from).
"Downtown Ballard" is 8 blocks to the east where you will find great restaurants like Bastille and Walrus and the Carpenter, incredible bakeries like Cafe Besalu, shopping, coffee shops (it is Seattle, after all), and sightseeing.
The Hiram Chittenden Locks, a popular (free) attraction and Shilshole Bay in Puget Sound are both within six blocks. Golden Gardens, a huge, in-city park, is less than two miles and features a sandy beach, great walks and even swimming in the salt water of Puget Sound.
About a mile away walk is Discovery Park, formerly an US Army base called Fort Lawton, and now a 534 acre nature preserve owned by the Seattle Park Department. There are lots of trails, interesting buildings (including a light house), and many wildlife, including eagles, that can be found there seasonally. This area is also free to explore, and just a walk over the Government Locks, mentioned above.
It's one-quarter block to the #17E (express) bus. The #17E only runs during rush hour and goes through downtown through Ballard. Other times of day you'll go four blocks south to the #44 bus which goes directly to the University District, University of Washington and University Medical Center and travels through Ballard to 15th NW where one can catch the Rapid Ride D Line downtown. The #40 runs on 24th NW which is eight blocks away and goes downtown to the south or to Northgate Mall to the north.
The house has a large living and dining room for you to use, a kitchen to share, and a large deck off the back of the house. Free street parking in this beautiful, old neighborhood. The bedroom is up the open staircase on the second floor, and contains a queen size bed, dresser, and chair. The bathroom would be shared with me. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel provided. Wifi and Netflix streaming available for your use.
I do have an XL cot that can be set up in the room for an extra guest or separate sleeping arrangements.
I'm a Seattle native and would be happy to assist you with your plans. If you have any specific needs, I will do everything to assist you.
Their bedroom, upstairs full bath and main floor half bath, living, dining, kitchen and den.
Interaction with Guests
It depends upon the guest's preference. I am very happy to interact with guests or leave them alone.
It is quiet, pretty, four blocks to Puget Sound and eight blocks to the delightful Ballard business area.
Seattle Metro Transit provides buses four blocks away except during rush hour when the #17 Express runs to within 1/2 block of my house.
Come and go as you like. Please always lock the doors when you leave. I appreciate your conservation of resources - please turn off lights not in use, recycle, and be cognizant of water use.
Marcia was great! She welcomed me at the door, offered to help carry a heavy suitcase, and made me feel at home. The residential neighborhood was beautiful, with lush front gardens lining the street. It was an easy walk down to the Ballard Locks. Marcia was very helpful giving me directions for my next destination in the city and I truly enjoyed talking with her over a cup of tea. The bed was very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again!
We did not get to stay long enough in Marcia's lovely room in her wonderful neighborhood! We had everything we needed and hope to come back for another visit in the future.
Marcia is a lovely person. Her welcoming personnality rubs off on her home. We recommend Marcia's place anytime! The Ballard neighborhood, in which she resides, is the nicest place we've seen in Seattle. You are at walking distance from awesome restaurants, coffee shops, arts & crafts stores and bars.
Nice old house on a quiet, tree lined street, walking distance to great restaurants and the Locks. Comfy, quiet room and an excellent, friendly host, Marcia. Looking forward to coming back soon!
Our week in Ballard was such a wonderful time! We felt welcomed and comfortable at once and loved the house and the neighborhood. Marcia was always helpful and funny, so we had no problems at all finding everything and enjoying our days. Sometimes we went home earlier to have a cup of tea and then go out again to watch the sunset. If we have the chance to come back to Seattle we would definitely try to stay with Marcia again.
What a great place to stay! Marcia's wonderful room was truly comfortable, a home away from home- quiet, relaxing and more spacious than we thought from the picture. It was also the perfect base to explore the really fascinating area of Ballard, with it's incredible restaurants, bars and breweries. We met Marcia briefly and she proved to be truly an welcoming and thoughtful host. Highly recommended!
My girlfriend and I stayed for 2 nights on a weekend. I really liked the house, lots of space to find a place to sit, the room was nice, the bed was comfortable. I like how organized Marcia was with house rules, labelled drawers, brochures for local sights, etc. The house was in a nice neighborhood, easy to get to the water, parks and downtown.
