  • We really loved staying in this apartment. It was really nice, clean, cosy and almost brandnew. Everything you need is there. It is a bit small but that really doesn't matter, we really were so happy that we choose this apartment.
The kitchen has everything you need, the shower is one of the best ever and the bed is so nice and comfy. We also loved having breakfast at our balcony, which is bigger then we expected! There are also a lot of nice books in the apartment but we didn't have time to read any of them because there is so much to do in the environment.
There is a really nice swimming pool, the supermarket is nearby and the beach is a 15 minute walk. The water is so clear, it is really beautiful and we saw a lot of fish, even when we didn't go snorkling and stayed very close to the shore.
In 20 minutes by foot you will reach the little village itself which has some nice restaurants and bars. There is also a little market twice a week with fantastic fruit and vegetables for a very cheap price.
When we where there, the owners weren't but there were two men, John and Marc, who would help us with everything we could ask for. The owners themself were also very nice and gave us all the information we needed by email. They were very fast, polite and kind.
The restaurant 'la Elia' really does have the best pizza's around but it also very nice to go to 'Blue Bay'. The prices are so nice compared to the Netherlands, it is a delight to go out for dinner in Caulonia! Actually the whole holiday was a delight; it is so nice to come home after a day sightseeing and then have a swim in the pool. We really enjoyed our stay in this cute apartment and want to thank Michaela and Victor for being so kind, Marc for driving us everywhere we needed to go and his wonderful tips about where to go/ his stories and John for, being John haha.
If you need a lovely place to stay, don't hesitate and go to this place!

  • We stayed here for 9 nights at the end of August 2013. The apartment was as we expected, basic & clean. You will need to get all supplies, there was salt & pepper & some oil, but we got our own. The area surrounding the apartment is not touristically picturesque, its typical rural Italy, there are half built buildings about, and work in progress roads. It didn't bother us so much though. The weather when we went was boiling, the sea lovely and clear. If you like the option of shade like we do, be prepared to pay for it on the beach. Our 1st day we were charged 12 euros for an umbrella !. So we ended up buying one in the end for 20 Euros annoying because the umbrella at the apartment had a strict rule of pool use only due to previous guests breaking them =/. We had to leave the umbrella as it was too big to take back, & getting it sent back would have been silly so maybe it will be there to use anyway now !!. My biggest advice is that I feel this area is unsuitable for a couple that don't drive. You really need to hire a car to get to the apartment from the airport, see a few of the lovely little towns near by, to check out the various beaches along the coast, and to visit any of the tourist attractions you may read about. It took us about 2 1/2 hours from the airport to the location driving at night. The only flight we could get landed at 9 pm. If you are not a confident driver I would advise landing in the day so the drive is in daylight. VERY IMPORTANT YOU WILL NEED A SAT NAV NO QUESTION ABOUT IT !!!! The food and drinks are cheap, including beer, naturally good food, but then i'm part Italian so its always been a favorite of mine. The locals are nice & friendly. Don't expect them to speak fluent English in this part of Italy, it is more rural than the other built up tourist areas. We tried to visit the Castello San Filli but the road had been blocked off so its not available for tourist viewing ! We drove to the old town of Caulonia, very sweet, high up old town, like a big spiral, the town being at the top. There was a festival running when we were there called Tarantella, which was fun. There are no english adaptors, so don't forget to take them. The electric fused when we were there as it wasn't keen on me charging my phone, it only happened once, but it is power sensitive at the apartment ! The owners were good with replying to emails, which was very helpful. All in all it was an ok little break. Hiring a car made the holiday for us as we got to go off on little recce's and go for...

    Response from M & V:

This guest review is very subjective. Do not take everything described here as true.
We always advice guests to research the area before and decide it is for them and this is what they are looking for and we never pretended for this little seaside town to be south of France!
She points out things that were never advertised in the description as being offered or possible to offer just to have something to pick about (e.g. regarding the supplies that were there anyway but she purchased her own....then why say the guests need to buy everything when salt, pepper etc were there?) again we never said guests will find any sort of supplies in the apartment.
There is a supermarket 5 minutes walking from the apartment that stocks everything.
We do not supply sun umbrellas to guests and this was never mention in the flat description.
Everything was clearly explained in advance! However we gave her access to our umbrella and asked her to replace it only if she damages it. She decided to buy the most expensive one, and then expected us to pay for it at the end of her holiday.
Any guests coming on a holiday by the beach expect to pay something to use the private beach, but we always use the free beach which is larger than the few private ones and closer to the apartment.
Regarding the driving to our place is not complicated at all. This depends of your experience to drive outside your own country and while of course sat nav helps, if you do not want to read the signs on the motorway we had many guests that managed without one very well not to mention that the town is so small and we gave clear instructions where the place is that it is impossible not to find it.
You do not need a car in this small town only if you want to travel around and do not like using public transport.
We had guests that were there for weeks without a car with kids as well so if you are prepared to use the public transport and you like doing this of course you can get by no problems.
You manage very well in town with little English but this is the magic of rural Italy and British people come here for other things than finding locals speaking their language fluently.
Castello SanFilli is an abandoned castle with lovely landscapes around it. There are many ways to get to it if needed with local drivers if guests do not mange on their own.
The electric fuse being sensitive in the apartment is a very good thing for anybody's safety. We offer UK adapters but they brought their own.
I can only thank those guests for the few positive things they mention after indeed doing our best to answer their frequent e-mails 24 hours almost every day and satisfying all their requests to the best we could.

  • Lovely apartment, very well equiped with everything one needs. Michaela and Victor were very helpful and friendly. We had a wonderful stay, as soon as we arrived we felt like at home. As we knew that transportation in Calabria is not easy, we rented a car to visit other beautiful towns and hills in the surrounding area, and come back home was always pleasant and relaxing. Caulonia is a small town, and even in August is not too busy, so we enjoyed its quiet free beach. Michaela and Victor's place was exactly that we were looking for!! thanks a lot!!

  • Very nicely appointed pool apartment in a small modern complex located in a more rural part of southern Calabria. It has all the amenities you possibly need and is in walking distance to the small town and only 500 metres from the local beaches. Everything you need is close at hand. There is a supermarket is close by and there are good places to eat not to mention its surrounded by stunning scenery. One of the most relaxing places you could possibly imagine.
Calabria is a very beautiful part of southern Italy, its still relatively undeveloped but that is its charm. If you have a car its a great base to discover this part of Italy including the mountain villages located nearby. Ignore the occasional partly finished construction, instead enjoy the fresh air, the stunning views and empty beaches!
The hosts could not have been more helpful, always responding immediately to questions and did everything to make the stay as comfortable as possible.

  • For our Easter holidays in Calabria, we were expected to see beautiful beaches, to visit charming villages in the mountains, to have nice weather... but besides all that we also met hospitable and very helpful hosts that have given us good advices to enjoy our stay in an italian region still preserved and unspoiled.
We are really thankful to Michaela & Victor for their kindness and their hearty welcome. Their flat is really comfortable and well located, close to the supermarket, the beach, many sightseeing places in south Calabria. I heartily recommend you to rent this flat to spend a nice time in Calabria.

  • We rested in the apartments Michaela and Victor 1.5 months. Apartments are fully equipped with everything you need, cozy and clean. Downstairs there is a wonderful pool. To the sea to walk 15 minutes, to the nearest good supermarket 5 minutes, to the city center 15-20 minutes. The town is very quiet and calm, more suited for a relaxing family holiday with children. There are some problems with the Internet, but nearby is a cafe with free internet. Wonderful sea, very clean and warm! I recommend the apartments for couples with children for a relaxing quiet holiday.

  • We ve been staying in michaela s flat early august.
The flat is in a brand new complex with a shared swimmingpool and is absolutely fully equiped.
Victor and Michaela welcomed us warmly and gave us lots of very interesting tips on where to go to eat, shop, visit. They gave us as well a sun umbrella and the indications to the beach. Great blue water and amazingly almost empty despite the quantity of tourists in calabria.

Victor & Michaela's flat is great as a starting point to visit all the different sides of calabria. We highly recommand to rent a car in order to cross through the mountains to the west with its beautiful coast.

  • Thank you so much! – We had a fabulous stay at Michaela & Victor’s appartment where we immediately felt like at home. Everything was perfect, clean and pleasant. Communication ideal. Appartment fully-equipped with everything one needs, exactly as described, and in accordance with the photos. Unlimited internet access. Well-appointed balcony with a view to the pool. In addition to that the handy chairs which become a backpack with a cool box for the beach.

The complex is completely new, with a great swimming pool where you can always find a place in a shade so there is no need to have an umbrella.

Short walking distance (max. 15 minutes) to a nice peaceful free beach (crystal clear sea, fine pebbles and small stones), supermarket, pizzeria, bars, shops, playground, Saturday morning market and the centre of the town. Bus and train connections to another beautiful towns in the surrounding area.

Michaela & Victor are outstanding hosts, very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We spent a wonderful time with them and their lovely daughter and we would be happy to stay here again.

Amazing value for the price. Absolutely recommendable!

A nice fully equiped and brand new flat in a small town, 500m far from the sea. The residence is international and completely new with a huge swimming pool just below our balcony !
Our stay was great and we were very well welcomed.. I highly recommend this place, just don't miss it, it's the perfect "farniente" I ever had...
