Unfortunately my host was out of the country when I arrived and did not answer his cell phone the entire first day. The instructions to find the place were not good so I searched around quite a bit before finding a local person who fortunately knew of the place. Once I arrive I was warmly greeted by a friend and mother of the owner. Place was decent, but did not have hot water, which I guess I should have checked on or it should have been disclosed. I unfortunately had a family emergency so had to leave after only one day but there was no one to talk with so I left the key in the door and was departing when I saw the owners mother and informed her of my change in plans. Overall and interesting little tree house, once you find it, in a fairly secured fenced yard. As long as hot water is not an issue for you it works for one or two people and the location is walkable, although not super close, to the far end of the cute town of Cahuita. If you dont have a car its a little bit of a walk to the restaurants especially at night since there are not street lights and the dirt road gets a bit muddy!. I will also note that this place is NOT beachfront as advertised but rather it is a block off the beach and there is a hotel between you and the beach.
This place is magical and Michele and his sweet mama amazing hosts who went above and beyond to ensure our honeymoon was a beautiful memory. There is a more private beach across the street where you can choose to lounge in the sunshine or park it under the shade of a majestic palm. We highly recommend a visit to the Tree of Life Center just a short walk from the treehouse where the crew here do incredible work in reintroducing the orphaned, abused or injured native wildlife back into their natural habitat. There are great restaurants within walking ( or biking- our favorite) distance as well. We highly recommend Michele's treehouse for the unique Costa Rican experience. We will be back! :)
The house is very beautiful, private, clean. Michele is a very quiet host, we almost never saw him, which was ok with us cause we wanted privacy. He although made the room 2 times in 5 nights, which was great. Cahuita is a great village, very real, rustic, quiet, not "club med" vibe. We felt like discovering something special and not artificial. There's a good bistrot called "chez fabien" where we spend most of our meals, but there's also many other good restaurants. The beach was not that amazing, very small, and the water was dirty, i won't recommand it for beach lovers, but the national park is just magic. The only bad thing in this house and Cahuita in general: there's many leaks on the roof, so when it's raining (which is often in Cahuita, especially in the night) you get water on you. I'm sure Michele will fix it soon but for us it was not nice.
The treehouse is very charming and even has a bit of a kitchen set-up on the ground floor: stovetop burners, fridge, sink, and utensils/cookware. Michele was a very nice guy as well and made us feel very welcome.
Pro tip: bring earplugs in case it rains. The treehouse has a tin roof and it gets a bit loud when it rains. However, the sound of the Caribbean was still audible regardless! Also, make sure you get GPS coordinates from Michele (it's super close to Cahuita but if you're a novice you'd never know), and know that you have to drive through a bluish wooden gate that says "Playa Grande Lodge & Treehouse" on it.
Definitely a unique experience!
Great stay in a beautiful rustic sleepy beachtown. Michele was a great host and we enjoyed our trip!
My wife and I had a nice stay at the treefort, its really cool. We visited during the rainy season so it rained really hard at night and it was loud on the metal roof, but I liked the sound and it helped me sleep. Michele was very nice and gave us the key. We felt safe and there a couple places a few minutes walk away. The area is all dirt roads and has a lot of carribian transplants. This side of the country is very different from the pacific side and I'm glad we saw it. 2-3 days was perfect for us here. Cool place.
We really enjoyed our stay at the treehouse! Rustic, yet very charming and artfully decorated. It is very close to the beach with an ocean view, convenient to the restaurants of Cahuita, yet still private.
