Interaction with Guests
INTERACTION WITH OUR GUESTS
We'll be glad to provide you more details and answer your different questions before your stay.
In Marrakech, Fatima, your local contact person, will take care of you, and answer your requests. She will clean rooms, bathrooms and kitchen on a daily basis (included in our price), and can prepare breakfast and dinner upon request (not included).
We can foresee your transfer from and to the airport, for which you just pay our trusted taxidriver Mustafa the agreed normal local rate (and not the "tourist" price ;-) and he brings you to our place (that he knows well) to introduce you to Fatima. You can of course decide to book him also for your planned (day)trips .
AROUND THE RIAD
Our Riad is located at 400 meters of one of the doors of the old City : Bab Aylen. Taxis are easy to grab from that place. In the other direction, you'll need 15 minutes by foot to go to the famous place Jamaa El Fna - Shops / food / fresh fruit and pastry all around close to our street.
Other Things to Note
Riad is WIFI enabled and has DVD player and television.
A private Jacuzzi (heated) is available on the ground floor. It is automatically filtered on a daily basis.
There is also a safe in the Pink Suite you can use to keep your belongings.
Riad is non-smoking except on terrace
Communication before and during our stay with Vincent was easy and he responded to any questions we had quickly and helped make our stay in Marrakech run as smoothly as possible. Vincent arranged an airport pick up for us by his friend Mustapha, which we would recommend. Tours of the wider Morocco area can be arranged with Mustapha also for the same price as what's offered in local travel agents.
The Riad is a great place to stay if you're looking for a truly authentic Moroccan experience. It provides an oasis of calm in a chaotic, culture shocking medina, The Riad is excellent condition, very clean and comfortable.
Although Fatima, the house maid, doesn't speak any english we still managed to communicate with her through our limited French and hand signals. Her food, although slightly more expensive than surrounding restaurants, is fantastic and was probably the best meal we ate the whole time we were in Morocco.
Recommended to people seeking an authentic Moroccan experience with a splash of luxury.
Thanks once again
Beth & Joe,
First of all, thank you for our interactions and your respect of our place. You were great guests and we highly recomment you to any other Airbnb member. Thank you for this review that is so well-balanced in the description. We really like the "It provides an oasis of calm in a chaotic, culture shocking medina", which describes so well the place when you arrive in the Medina. Great to read you enjoyed your stay and happy to have made this possible with the help of Fatima & Mostafa !
Vincent & Maud
I really cannot recommend Vincent or his riad for your stay in Marrakech. We had an awful experience with him that ruined our weekend in the city. Whether due to malfunction or something done by the housekeeper the Jacuzzi overflowed, damaging the pump (which is sunk in a hole right next to the Jacuzzi, quite a baffling arrangement for something that shouldn't get wet). When we notified him of the problem he blamed us and demanded that we pay for the repairs, a 500 Euro expense. At one point he called the phone in the riad when I wasn't there and spent 20 minutes yelling at my wife, calling her stupid and endlessly berating her. It was extremely unprofessional and ungentlemanly of him. After this encounter we felt very unsafe in the riad and contemplated leaving even though we still had 2 days remaining on our reservation. Even after our stay ended he continued to harass us. I'm sure in response Vincent will claim that we are lying, that it was our fault, etc, etc. All I can say is that we honestly did not cause the damage and found Vincent to be disagreeable and unpleasant. With so many amazing places to stay in Marrakech I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere for your accommodations.
I was expecting this kind of review from Dave, as he threatened us to write the worst possible review in case we would call upon the Airbnb warranty to get part of the damages he caused in our Riad reimbursed. And there you go.
I will not make this answer personal, although I have my opinion about values such as honesty and taking responsibility for what you do. For the readers of this review, I will just mention some facts that give some perspective to what they just read.
The Riad was damaged after Dave opened a water tap to add water to the Jacuzzi, just before leaving the place to enjoy a walk into the city. Happy enough, when Fatima, the housekeeper, came in some hours later, she closed it immediately to avoid causing even more damages. I quote Dave in his communication to us when notifying us :"We were trying to heat the jacuzi but I think we did something wrong and now there's water in the area where the pump is. I'm hoping we didn't do any damage."
I took all actions to help to settle the problem as quickly and at the lowest cost possible. The plumber we know did come the same day, and the amount he asked to repair was 4500 Dirhams (405€). The two pumps did indeed stay under water due to the overflow and needed to get repaired (electrical part obviously). For those that are used to have a jacuzzi or swimming pool, it is quite logical to have the engines at lower level than the water, which explains the "hole" next to the jacuzzi, but in a separate and closed room.
I had different phone calls and mails exchanged with Dave and his wife, to help them out and also to explain them the costs of the repair, at which they finally tried to bargain to pay half of the costs. If I would have any doubt that the problem was caused by the installation, I would not have asked them any euro cent! (both Fatima and our plumber identified the open water tap as being the cause of the issue).
What Dave forgot to mention is that he first agreed to pay for the damages, but that he left the Riad after paying 2000 DHS (180€) to Fatima, which is a bit less than the half. What Dave called "he continued to harass us" is one single mail he got from me via Airbnb as they asked me to try settling this case directly before asking Airbnb to manage it. What Dave forgot to mention, is that he entered the Riad early in the morning the first day, without any additional costs, that he enjoyed the taxi service, the cooking of Fatima, and looking back at the review, I'm happy to see that there is nothing negative about the Riad, the privacy of renting a full house, the nice terrace, the two suites, the decoration and style …
Despite this kind of experience or encounter, my wife and I, together with Fatima, will continue providing the best possible Marrakech experience to our guests, in line with the positive comments of the other travellers we were pleased to host.
Riad Alegria offers you everything. The Riad is beautifully decorated and very spacious which is exactly what you need after a day out in the Medina. Above the main dining area is a retractable sun roof which allows you to watch the stalks flying above and see the stars late at night. Its within the walls and only a ten minute walk to Jemaa el Fnaa square. Both Vincent and Fatima are readily available to answer any questions and offer advice on your stay. Bab Aylen is a more local area than touristic which does mean you have to be more sensitive to the Moroccan culture than staying in the new town, Gueliz but this allows you to experience real Marrakech. I lived in Marrakech for a short while and have seen many Riads and this really does stand out. Highly recommended.
My traveling partners and I had an amazing experience in Marrakech and we have to thank Vincent, Fatima and Mustapha for making it all possible. Stepping into the Riad, you forget that you are in the middle of old town Marrakech. It is nice and quiet and your own little escape from all hustle and bustle out on the street. The Riad has two suites and was perfect for two couples and it was clean and looked just like it did in the pictures. It is well organized and inviting especially when you are greeting by Fatima, who takes care of the house.
Fatima speaks only French and us only English, but we had no problems communicating with the help of a translator phone app and charades. If you decide to eat Fatimas cooking you won't regret it, order her Lamb and Prunes Tagine**so delicious**. Also Mustapha was the gentleman who picked us up from the Airport. I would be sure to hire him, and he was the calmest driver in the entire city. We also hired him for an excursion later in the week. He answered all of many questions, he was very polite and such a gentleman. They also arranged for a man from the neighborhood with a cart transport our luggage to the Riad from the city gate, as a car cannot go that far.
The weather was just a little too cool for us to want to use the Jacuzzi, but it looked very nice, and it was set on a timer so it filtered itself daily. The kitchen has all the gadgets you could need to prepare a nice meal yourself if you choose, but the Riad is in a great location to get to restaurants quickly, it is a 15 minute walk to the Jemaa El Fna square and a 10 minute walk to the Bab Alyn/gate to catch taxis. Vincent has the Riad stocked with maps and other travel material on Marrakech. The WiFi is also quite fast, if you need to do any research. There is a TV and a lot of DVDs to watch if you choose to stay in for the night. When it was warm went up on the roof top terrace for a glass of wine, and to catch some sun. There is a nice sectional-sofa up there along with a dining table and lounge chairs.
Vincent was also a wonderful host. This was my first time using Airbnb, and he made is completely easy. I had a lot of questions to ask him, not just about the Riad, but about his recommendations in Marrakech and he was always quick to answer and very enthusiastic. You can tell he has a love for the city. After each day of traveling and sightseeing, we truly felt that we were coming home and we came to call the neighborhood our own. I would not hesitate to stay at Vincent’s Riad again.
Passionated about travel, my wife and I decided to have a Riad in Marrakech and enjoy the time spent over time. We recently decided to rent our house there, allowing other people to enjoy not just a room but a stay in their place with all the amenities / Vincent(42) et Maud (38) : Nous sommes belges, passionés de voyage et avons découvert le charme de Marrakech avant de craquer pour ce Riad.
